Cygnus X-1 12 Posted December 3, 2005 he means lay of on the triple posting, jsut edit your precviouso ne until it has been resonded to . Rap does not equal what is considered Hip Hop, althoug it is general now incldued in the hip hop genre (cause after all, its a music genre) I think htere is great potential in rap, but first and formost, put music to it, not some lame beat. Second, get some good topic on hand. So the one guy wrote a book that moved many. Thats an accomplishment to be proud of. But if hes a good poet and book writter, hten why is he rapping ? He shoudl be writing. And jsut becuase he is good at poetry, one form of art, does not mean that he is good at them all. Share this post Link to post
Acerz492 1 Posted December 3, 2005 I think htere is great potential in rap, but first and formost, put music to it, not some lame beat. Second, get some good topic on hand. Blasphemy!! There is no good potential in Rap whatsoever. So the one guy wrote a book that moved many. Thats an accomplishment to be proud of. But if hes a good poet and book writter, hten why is he rapping ? He shoudl be writing. And jsut becuase he is good at poetry, one form of art, does not mean that he is good at them all. He's dead, remember? Alot of people move many through writing books. Tupac writing a poetry book dosen't make him as special as any other person who's written a book. You're exactly right there Cygnus. The only reason why Tupac is getting more credit now is because he's dead. Much like Nirvana and Elvis. Stoopid I tell ya. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted December 3, 2005 First off, i dont think much of Nirvana "You know what i hate about friends? Its when they die and get richer than you."-Lando Calrissian Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 3, 2005 yea cygnus has a point there is much potential in rap...and there are some artists out there that are making an effort to use original music and beats with poetic verses. THIS IS TRUE, dont hate lol..and tupac is not that great i just used him to prove that there are poetic rappers out there that dont just rap about crime and whatnot. believe me i hate all that gangster rap i hear on the radio...it gives rap a bad name...and it doesn't hold true to what the genuine idea of rap/hip-hop is meant to be. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted December 4, 2005 Haha, okay good- we have consensus  Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 4, 2005 so wut? is this disagreement put to rest? Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted December 5, 2005 while it is not rap per say I suggest you listen to Hebie Hancock: Future 2 Future (album) that is real music, with a twist for you metalish peoples: Linkin Park (not Jay Z rip off version) and finally Rush-Roll the Bones (song, a bit of something that might be taken as rap, but not by current era listeners) "Do not judge a book by its cover. Also, do not judge a tree by its fruit. And finally, you shouldnt alwas avoid not judging another person by the lack of them not wearing glasses."-Ford Prefect Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted December 5, 2005 "Do not judge a book by its cover. Also, do not judge a tree by its fruit. And finally, you shouldnt alwas avoid not judging another person by the lack of them not wearing glasses."-Ford Prefect "Do not judge a tree by its fruit?" How the hell else are you supposed to judge a tree? :? NB: This is obviously a bit of an attack against Jesus' teachings- the "judge a tree by its fruit" analogy was often used by him. Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 5, 2005 BWare, don't drag something completely unrelated into this thread. His comment had nothing to do with Jesus' teachings. Don't be so foolish. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted December 5, 2005 Fenring, that was completely relevant. You may not know much on the subject, but "judging a tree by its fruit" is absolutely a take on one of Jesus' most famous teachings. I was just pointing it out. Plus, I just mentioned it as a subpoint- I wasn't making a federal case out of it. Calm down  Besides, this is a thread I started about a trip to New York! Why are you telling me not to "drag something unrelated" into the thread when we've been going on about rap for pages?? Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 5, 2005 rap is music >=P lol..in my eyes and in others..and that is a fact THAT CANT BE ARGUED. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted December 5, 2005 Sure, but the question remains- is it actually legitimate music? The fact that a lot of listen to it doesn't make it music (also, you can't prove that all those people think its music or that they even like it- just that they listen to it ) Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 5, 2005 It counts, whether you agree or not. Synthesized music is still music. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted December 5, 2005 It's music only by the strictest definition. We're discussing whether or not it's legitimate music. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 5, 2005 It's legitimate, even if you don't want to agree. Though it's spoken rhyme and synthesized, it's still legitimate. If you're going to say that synthetic beats aren't music, then you should include techno and trance. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted December 5, 2005 I DO include techno and trance! I don't have a personal vendetta against it- I'm just not comfortable lumping that stuff into the same category as classical music, for example. There has to be some separation between the two... Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 5, 2005 And there is... Rap/hip hop is not the same as opera but it's still part of music as a whole. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 5, 2005 thank you fenring for saying what i couldnt put into words....hey you guys like poetry? or just any moving works of literature? you guys should watch Russel Simmon's Def Poetry on HBO if you can....very interesting things...there was a piece on last night called PSA about hip-hop...i think BWare would LOVE it... Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 6, 2005 Most likely not. I never liked "Def" anything since it blows. Share this post Link to post
Acerz492 1 Posted December 6, 2005 Most likely not. I never liked "Def" anything since it blows. I agree. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 7, 2005 alright then....cant say nothing without an arguement starting. :? Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 7, 2005 What do you expect us to do? Agree with everything you say? When you talk about rap or anything else many of us dislike, you're going to recieve a negative response. It happens, deal with it. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted December 7, 2005 i M DEALING WITH IT...what i was saying was you people are hard-headed..at least in the topic of music...almost everyone insists that its not music and its crap and there is NOTHING i can say to even sway your opinions....it must be because i am new i have no power whatsoever.
