I Hate People...

"What happens then??" Then the crook, who may have killed YOU (the innocent person, remember), dies! Do you NOT prefer that??

Hell, if that ever happens to me, I will not hesitate to shoot to kill! If someone pulls a knife on you, they are threatening your life. From the mugger's perspective, knowing that their victim may be carrying a gun - knowing that they will likely be shot dead if they try to mug you - now THAT'S deterrence!

NB: I wouldn't just shoot someone at the drop of a hat. I would only resort to violence if my life were actually in danger. A gun can scare away a knife-wielding mugger, after all.

Tell me something though. Why are you so damn sympathetic to the scumbag with the knife, the initiator of the violence? That is just such a twisted point of view.......

Let's get a few things straight here dude. Yes, the crook dies if I shoot him in the leg and severe his main artery, and I -do- prefer that. But, what about afterwards? The police case and the attention it brings isn't worth it. The family of the dead crook would try and sue me or some stupid thing like that, I'd probably have to make an appearance in court and I'd have to make a statement, etc etc etc. Plus, not to mention there's the fact that I -killed- a man. I don't want something like being on my conscience for the rest of my life. And, yes, he might've been threatening -me- but it won't change the fact that I killed -him- in court. Therefore I'd probably be the one getting charged for manslaughter.

As for being sympathetic to the crook with the knife? I don't remember saying something like, "Maybe he's just trying to feed his kids with the money he steals off of people". Where the hell does it imply that I'm sympathetic? I just don't see the point in carrying around a weapon if it's not going to be used for it's intended purpose, ie, maiming or killing other people.

I'd rather get stabbed and recover rather than shoot the guy dead. And if he ends up killing me then all the more reason for him to get the punishment he deserves.

Please dude. Look before you leap, alrighty? >_>

Acerz, I don't want to get stabbed and neither does BWare. **** that ****. I don't need that in my life... ever, at any point. If I want to carry a weapon to protect myself from future attackers, then goddammit, I'm going to carry one.

If a guy happens to try to mug me at knifepoint and I blow his ass away, then guess what, tough ****. I used my defense to ward off his attack. And the family of the "victim" can kiss my rosy red ass. I feel no remorse for a petty criminal.

So what if you have to make a court appearance? You'd have to do the very same if you were stabbed, survived and recovered! So what's the problem here? Sure, you might get some time but you got a scumbag off the street. That's a far greater reward than seeing him in prison for 15 years.

...and it's pretty stupid to assume that all knife injuries are something you just recover from. They can lead to much worse, messier, painful damage, and very often DEATH. I volunteer at a hospital, and let me tell you- I would much rather be shot than stabbed.

As for the court appearance and statement you'd have to make (oh noes!!!), I'd say that dealing with the mechanics of the justice system would be more than worth your justified defense of yourself. Cases like this RARELY end in a charge of manslaughter unless the use of the gun was completely unnecessary.

And if he ends up killing me then all the more reason for him to get the punishment he deserves.

So you would rather DIE than make a statement to the police???

I'd say that a BETTER way to give him the punishment he deserves is to shoot him... you know, instead of him KILLING you and then getting what's coming to him. That's a hell of a self defense you've got there.

Apparently you'd rather be a statistic than a person who stands up to a mugger and does what's necessary. Well, to each his own.

...Fenring has the right idea.

Attaches a small plastic explosive to the mini-van

Masked Shah- This structure will do...

Mini-van blows up, and several rebels clap... Jarmen Kell removes his head phones

Jarmen Kell- Your excellency... you do know that was a random mini-van and not the one Fenring wanted destroyed...

Masked Shah- SILENCE! It's a Success!! I count it!!!

Jarmen Kell- Actually I think it was that NOD leader's Mini-van... Kane, I think.... um sir?... where did?...

Jarmen turns around to find everyone had escaped into tunnel...

Jarmen Kell- Oh Holy Geebus... how in the hell did I end up working here...

Scurrys into tunnel seconds before armed Noddies arrive....

The problem is, that it'd make getting a job later in life a -tad- hard over here, if I got sent to prison for it. It's a double-edged sword. If I don't get sent to prison well of course there isn't a problem. But you know how the court system works, even if you're in the right preventing your own death by retaliating against your attacker, and accidently killing him in the process, more than likely you'll get sent to prison anyway. Remember, there are stupid people in high places, and the court system is no exception.

Acerz, I don't want to get stabbed and neither does BWare. **** that s***. I don't need that in my life... ever, at any point. If I want to carry a weapon to protect myself from future attackers, then goddammit, I'm going to carry one.

That's fine by me. However the best thing to do is not get into these kinda situations in the first place. :P

If a guy happens to try to mug me at knifepoint and I blow his ass away, then guess what, tough s***. I used my defense to ward off his attack. And the family of the "victim" can kiss my rosy red ass. I feel no remorse for a petty criminal.

True. But, for every action there is a reaction, and some idiot in the family will try and do something. That's something I'd rather -not- have.

So you would rather DIE than make a statement to the police???

Did I imply that I wouldn't actually -do- anything about it? Bloody hell if he came at me with a knife I'd beat his ass into a pulp. When I say I don't like people carrying around weapons it dosen't mean to say that I'm a pansy and we should all sing songs around a campfire. >_> It's just that you don't even need friggin' weapons on oneself if you are not going to use them. It's understandable if you live in a dangerous neighbourhood or frequently travel through dangerous naighborhoods, but, see, the thing is? The easiest way to avoid instances like this are to not get yourself into these kinds of situations in the first place. >_>

Besides, I never actually -said- I would rather die than go to the police. >_>

And to recover from a stab wound makes you more of a man than recovering from a gunshot wound. :P

Taking my intelligence for granted again. Right. Hmm. >_>

Bloody hell, all this for me just objecting to having a weapon on oneself in public when 99% of the time you won't even need it. >_>

And what about that 1%? 100% is such a nice, round number...

Besides, I don't think you can back up your "statistic" there.

Do you wear a seatbelt, have an airbag, or keep batteries in your fire alarm? Seems silly to me if you won't be using them every second of every day....

And sure, it's better to avoid those situations altogether, but I'm not too good at seeing into the future, are you?

Once again, you argue that taking proactive action against a mugger isn't worth the difficulty in getting a job down the line (assuming you actually go to jail, which is a big assumption). I'd argue that it'd be much harder getting that job from six feet under :P

Unless, of course, you die

then you're more of a dead skeleton
