Here's what I don't understand: The RIAA says backup CDs are non-infringing but copying to an iPod, thusly making a BACKUP, is infringing use. If that's true, why the **** even bother with the iPod in the first place? I'm getting an iPod sometime and I'm going to put my music CDs on there. What are they gonna do? Arrest me for legally owning music?

I swear dude... DRM is SUCH a freaking joke. It's unbelievable. Nothing can stop the liquid, unrestrainable nature of digital technology, but these idiots won't stop trying. I wonder if there will ever be a definite solution to all this...

I would not normally say this, but it seems like the appropriate time for Madbadgers "WTF!" flag.

This is a complete contradiction in my book. It's just a way to try and root out and destroy the MP3 and other similar file formats... to which they'll fail miserably

Bunch of idiots they are....

ahhh my flag :P

can anyone translate this into simple english

"Nor does the fact that permission to make a copy in particular circumstances is often or even routinely granted, necessarily establish that the copying is a fair use when the copyright owner withholds that authorization.

im guessing it means

once you have the CD thats it, you cant ever copy it.

I'm glad I copied the link for the flag to MS Word, 'cause it's not on google anymore :?

now, for your translation:

Even though people are regularly allowed to make a copy (i.e. a “backup copy”) that does not mean that copying is legal if the person/organization that made the CD says you can’t.
