Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 5, 2006 Why to waste 2k when you can get one for about $900, the Geforce 7950 GTX 2. You can get two of those for the price of one ATI. And Crossfire only supports 2 cards? Put 4 Geforce 7950 GTX 2-s in SLi and..... you need a big power supply. Or you could just get one Geforce and have $1100 to go waste on something else Share this post Link to post
Dr. Rodney McKay 0 Posted July 5, 2006 I'm using a crappy Radeon x200. I really should upgrade. Share this post Link to post

Doctor Destiny 41 Posted July 5, 2006 This computer has an Intel integrated thingy. My Dell has a Radeon Sapphire 9200. Not top of the line but still damn good. I can run HL2 without frame rate issues. That's win and win. Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted July 5, 2006 http://aec.cadalyst.com/aec/article/articl...l.jsp?id=324997heres the answer to your dreams  I'd rather use $2,000 to buy a computer that will run any new game smoothly....tigerdirect  Share this post Link to post
WhOIsInTeResTed InMyNaMe? 0 Posted July 5, 2006 Intel intergrated (worse that all of yours) wrong ***** ¨Biostar¨ motherboard (yes, Biostar), P4 1.8 , 256RAM , integrated 32MB video card, and is full of crap ........ beat it! i still use that s**t  Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted July 5, 2006 I don't really want to spent more than 1000 dollars, but I want it to be able to play some games. I dunno, I am SO clueless in this department, I really need help. I wanna spent aroun 500 dollars for just a general purpose PC. Intel D101GGCL Socket 775 Barebone Kit- $289*Includes: [*]Pentium D Processor- 2.8Ghz [*]512MB PC3200 DDR RAM** [*]Motherboard with 2 PCI and 2 PCI-X slots [*]Tower Case and Power Supply So now you need: [*]A video card- One of these three: ~$200* [*]Hard Drive- 250GB: $85* [*]A mouse and keyboard- Logitech Mouse and Keyboard: $65* [*]Speakers- Dolby 5.1: $50* [*]Moniter- 17" LCD- $200* *These are my recommendations, but others may have seen better items/prices...feel free to add to this **If you added 512MB more of RAM (which I would think you should), it would be about $55 ($34 after rebate) So, adding these together: $289 $200~ $85 $65 $50 $200 + =$889 (or $944 if you get 512MB more RAM) It's a more expensive than it seems you wanted, but under $1000, and it would run any game out right now easily. Share this post Link to post
Riparius 0 Posted July 5, 2006 [*]A video card- One of these three: ~$200* From these three I would recommend the Gf 6800, because it has 256bit memory and you probably wouldn't need the 7600-s high resolution output.... Almost all Gf cards that end with *800 offer quite same performance than the next class *600 card (for example: 6800 GS and 7600 GT) and are a lot cheaper... I have a Nvidia Geforce 6800 GS and I'm very satisfied with it. Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Nice research there dude  Yeah, there are a ton of options out there if you want to build your own.. and you really should Share this post Link to post
Guest Auronguardian Posted July 6, 2006 Yea, with gaming a good graphics card would be the 6800 or 6600, they are going for 60 - 80 dollars now-a-days, and arent too shabby. Also, when making your own computer, dont forget a nice case. A nice one can be about 50 dollars, but you wouldnt want to have an ugly computer, right? Share this post Link to post
Riparius 0 Posted July 6, 2006 And better than the *200? Now that I don't know, but if you take two cards and look at their specs, you should find out. i couldnt care less what it looks like Even if it looks like a bunch of computery stuff thrown in a trash can? Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 6, 2006 i couldnt care less what it looks like yes but nice cases just might have good vents and mabe not allow crap to get into your hardware, no? Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 6, 2006 Looks matter. Said the kind of building rigs  Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted July 6, 2006 Looks matter. No, not really. I prefer function over fancy ****. My van looks like **** but runs damn good. Hence, looks do not matter. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 6, 2006 Here's another example. Fenring can mod, but his looks......(jk) Just dont get a pink case if you have women in/around the house. IT WILL NOT LAST!!! Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted July 6, 2006 as yong as you have a case (black ones look better than white or grey) it doesnt matter with computers anyway because its not something people see often. whereas something like an xbox360 will get seen alot because of where it is so it does need to look good Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 7, 2006 nonsense, people see my comp all the time. Besides, having the tower in an accessible place is better than you know, behind a dresser or something. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted July 7, 2006 What is the point in wasting money on a fancy case, when that could be put to more useful things. Especially people who feel the need for those cases with the nice seethrough case, with lots of neon lights flashing and stuff. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted July 7, 2006 Looks don't matter. The crappy construction of my good looking case caused my motherboard to fry, cause it has a bad type of power connection, which causes way too many power surges in the damn thing. Share this post Link to post

Utility over looks, but for the love of all things pizza, dont get the late-90's cream colored cardboard cases (well plastic, but you could poke a pencil through them if you wanted to) Share this post Link to post
