Nod=The Party

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone else noticed the many similaritys between The Brotherhood Of Nod and "The Party" in George Orwell's 1984. Besides the similaritys in doctrine, the most glaring of similaritys come from one of the early briefings from Seth when he states somthing like "to control the future you must first possess the past". Also after you install RA there is quote from Kane saying "to control the future you must first control the past, to control the past you must conquer the future". These arent exact words used but you get the idea. Anyway, these are almost word for word quotes from 1984. Other similarites include Kane's almost despotic control of the media and similarity to Big Brother. True, you could draw parallels with numorous other storys but westwood seemed to draw many of its influences for Nod and Kane directly From 1984. Just some thoughts.

that is quite interresting..

So youre saying that Westwood might have some of their story ideas from a 1984 movie?.. Sounds possible.

Cant remember any similiar situations.. but i know there is some..

I will not promote that existing evil to a pretend evil...

some comparisons are better off buried.

good comparision.

but i only think he looks like kane on the first picture.

the last one defenatly doesnt.. too large ears compared.

Do both of them want to conquer the world to rule it?

I doubt that :)

No not a 1984 movie. The novel 1984

1984 yes, that's a no brainer...

1984 influenced a lot of written villainious groups...

I would call Kane the work of many many bad guys (real or fake) traits into one.

I am fond of that book... I now classify it as alternate timeline story... screw the "outdated-future" label...

I truly believed it could have happened, the world could have fallen into that hell.

Westwood took influences from everything they could in the sci-fi genre and beyond. The initial Kane and Seth Partnership, as well as many areas of the original C&C were strongly based upon the Bible itself. Nod's ideals and directions were indeed from the novel 1984.

Other things include the Mammoth Mark 2 resembling the AT-AT walker in Star Wars Episode 5: Return of the Jedi, and Nod's world altering missile comes from the 2nd Star Trek movie in relation to "The Genesis project".. There are also numerous other references as well from the common AI will take over the human race reference (CABAL) to starship troopers (Alien side in C&C 3).

EA's references in C&C use and then extend upon the initial concept. GDI's bomber is a similar design of the aircraft used in the movie "stealth". Nod's Temple in Tiberian Sun has been shown to have links with the Alien faction. Other unit designs are based on a more organic insect feel than they have in the past, such as the common scorpian, the beetle and a few others as well.

There are a few other stronger references to other areas, but unless I can dig around and try and remember some of them... we'll just have to wait until the game to see them.

who is in charge of GDI in C&C3?

General Jack Granger (Michael Ironside) and GDI Director Redmond Boyle (Billy Dee Williams) are in charge of the GDI for C&C 3.

The names Kane and Seth are dead give aways...

not to mention the coffin marked "Abel" sitting in Kane's office in C&C Renegade...

Animal Farm is a great book. I read it as a little kid and loved it for its colorful animals and such without ever actually understanding what the book was about. I read it again as a teenager and well........ Cant really do that with 1984.

P.S. 1984 has one the best conclusions I have ever read.

Yes it is interesting, where he gives in to the System, but then mentally rebels in the end, to no avail, as no one else who was currently alive would have known abotu it. A pointless victory.

I wonder if we'll see something along those lines with C&C3, maybe leave some open room to continue the story

No it won't. This had been known for several years now during an interview with Westwood when Tiberian Sun was in development. I believe they said it would take 5 or 6 games to tell the entire story. A trilogy is just too short a time-span.

5 or 6 games is an extremely long time though... I wouldn't be surprised if they finished it off sooner than later... I suppose that really depends on how well this sells really. ;)
