BWare 0 Posted January 27, 2007 intel core duo 2.13 ghz2 gb of ram (2 x 1024) 7950GX2 Congrats dude! I've been overthrown That's a great setup. Just a bit of advice.... try and overclock that E6400 of yours. Even on stock cooling, that thing is a beast! You could probably do 3.0 GHz easily. Share this post Link to post
SELFdestruct 0 Posted January 27, 2007 Many people are telling me to overclock, but... : 1.) I don't know how 2.) I'm worried I'd do something wrong and WOOT all this saving for nothing? 3.) I'm still worried 4.) I really am worried 5.) hopefully this ain't too much of off topic 6.) Would I need an improved cooling system if I overclock? -Thanks EDIT: Holy crap, did you just say I can get it to around 3 GHZ?! =X......Wow, I'm pretty speechless now... 2.13 -> 3 GHZ Insane...Someones gotta guide me through that overclocking scene, I wouldn't wanna ruin something i've saved for around 3 years -.- Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted January 27, 2007 Doesn't overclocking void your warranty on the CPU though? Share this post Link to post
BWare 0 Posted January 27, 2007 Of course it does! But there's no way to prove it's been done. All your options are in the BIOS... just hit delete or F1, depending on your motherboard, as the computer is booting. In these menus you'll be able to manually control the computer's clock speed (and a lot of other fun stuff). There are TONS of guides online that can help you with any questions you may have. I have your exact same processor, and I have it running at 3.13 GHz without breaking a sweat. I can push it higher, but it starts to go a bit unstable after that point (plus I like having it OCd exactly 1 GHz ). If I can give you any advice, it's that you should REALLY take your time and not do anything too drastic. Start with a small overclock, test (run some applications- make sure the computer is behaving normally), and then nudge it a bit more. Don't do something like START it at 4 GHz right off the bat! You have the ability to permanently damage the components of your computer, so be very careful.... but don't let that stop you from some minor tweaking. Also, if you push the clock speed, and this results in a crash (that is, windows won't even load), then it's been pushed too far. Just scale it back. If the computer ITSELF won't even POST, then the clock speed is definitely too high... but don't panic. Just remove the little battery from your motherboard and look into your motherboard's manual on how to clear the CMOS (usually a little jumper). After that, all the defaults are restored, and you will boot like usual at your original 2.13 GHz. ...meh, that's the basic idea. If you have any more questions let me know! I'd at least try to push your processor to 2.5 GHz or so... almost definitely safe, and a considerable performance increase. Share this post Link to post
