Psg188 0 Posted February 26, 2007 Command & Conquer 3 is phenomenal... but there are some things that surprised me when I played. #1 You get money really fast, the harvesters seem to hold a lot more then the $700 I was used to. #2 It has the fog of war reminiscent of Generals and most other RTS Games (i.e. not C&C fog of war) #3 The FMV's are awesome, I thought they would be much cheaper then they ended up being, I really enjoyed them #4 Build Menu's: I love how they brought back the RA2 style build pane it was very good, they also let each barracks (or war factory or whatever) have its own build pane, so under barracks you'll have a separate button for each barracks #5 the music is good, but its not C&C music, its generals-ish... which disappoints me #6 The game has a right-click interface, I was expecting that to be default but in the options there is no way to change it to a Left-Click interface, I hope they add one before they release it #7 The system reqs... I knew they would be low but not as low as they are, I have: GeForce 7900 GT 256mb 3.06 Ghz Dual Core processor 2GB average latency RAM this is a $1000 computer basically and it auto-detected at ultra-high... and even at ultra-high I got no slow down and all the load times were less then 8 seconds, I am very impressed. #8 The generals powers I were expecting are not from an experience point based system like BFME1-2 and Generals they are instead from structures and cost money with each use. All in all the game looks great but there are a number of branches off of a normal C&C game, whether in the end it will work out or not, only time will tell. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted February 27, 2007 Well I'm impressed with the demo, it feels like the classic C&C games to me. The way the missions unfolds, the FMVs are excellent. Plus the game looks great! Its runs everything on high details on my system, which is.... AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4 Ghz [*]RAM: 2 GB DDR400 G.Skill Dual Channel [*]Video Card: Leadtek WinFast PX7600GT 256mb GDDR3 PCI-e [*]HDD: Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA2 [*]Monitor: Philips 190S7 19" LCD [*]OS: Windows XP SP2 The action is rather quick though but thats what I want. I don't want a slow snail paced game. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted February 27, 2007 I really liked it am very glad EA pulled it off! (Too bad no multiplayer demo though! ) It was faced pace, and could be slower, but thats me, I like more slower games, but the majority of people don't. I like the sidebar, I like the looks, and play. I really didn't notice the music so it really must of not been that great. Truly a great birthday present, got it just as I got my Pure Pwnage mousepad and shirt too! Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted February 27, 2007 The demo certainly left a plesent taste for more. But it felt like it was over just way too quickly. I'm disappointed by the fact that I have to wait a whole month to have the game on my hard disk!! But still, I feel there's something lacking within the gameplay and I just can't put my finger on it. Yes it's fast, it's fluid and it keeps me entertained... but fun? Borderline at the moment I have to say.... The Skirmish game on all levels felt way too quickly over, and I felt unsatisfied by the experience after I defeated the AI. I dunno, maybe I need the campaign to gear me up properly, cos that was really getting me hyped up! But from what I've seen so far, atmospherically it's almost there, but not quite and gameplay wise, this isn't a Company of Heroes beater. It's unique in it's own little way and is somewhat quite pleasing, but this Demo does not prove C&C is back where it belongs for me just yet... I'll be honest, I'll wait for the full game before I can pass any real judgement... Quite simply, I need more convincing. Cos I could bitch heavily about EVA chatting to me every 5 seconds about enemy troops being spotted. That really pisses me off no end! And there is a growing list of other annoying things too, but I'll save it when I review the full game properly. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted February 27, 2007 Spinny spinny... Some kind of glitch is making the harvesters spin around in circles. I'm going to see if it's fraps compatible to record that Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted February 27, 2007 Pros: [*]That C&C finally converted to the right-click action system of Warcraft/Starcraft, and that you can de-select, unlike Starcraft [*]That you don't de-select units when you queue structures/other units [*]That there's a way-point system from generals, and a planning system from RA2 [*]That you can select building queues from both clicking on the building, --or-- clicking the unit in the menu Cons: [*]MAJOR video/audio discrepency in the FMVs (for me at least, solution?) [*]The ****er crashed after 20 min. in the prologue mission So yea, good overall, but they need to fix that bug in the prologue, as it seems someone else here had the same problem Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted February 27, 2007 Well this sucks...it does it at random points during the game, but always around 20 min out...pff! System Specs: AMD Athlon 2200+ 1.8Ghz 256MB Nvidia GeForce 6600 FX 1GB SDRAM medium latency And I ran it on the lowest graphics settings possible. By the way, my processor is .2 ghz slower ( it has a 1000Mhz FSB though), but i have 2x's the RAM and 4x's the video card (memory at least) Just not getting it....FMVs don't bother me as much, but i want to play the skirmish all the way through Share this post Link to post
Sonic 295 Posted February 27, 2007 Updated your drivers for video and sound? Shut down any background apps. Maybe your system is getting to hot, do you have sufficient cooling? Are the errors after is crashes? Does it reboot the computer or are you just dumped back to desktop? Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted February 27, 2007 Like SupCom, this is growing on me now. I thought I'd have a Skirmish on Brutal because the other AI's were not massively challenging for my taste. I actually had a game that lasted longer than 40 minutes! Nukes flying, obelisks firing, Avatars charging. When I finally managed to Ion cannon the Con Yard though, backed up with some heavy bomber and drop pod support, it was all over. But damn that proved hard!!! Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted February 28, 2007 My system: Intel Celeron D 2.8 256 nVidia GeForce 7300GT 1GB Ram I get it to run on high with 1024 x 768... No problems whatsoever... Might have to overclock my vid card though and get it going well on 1280 x 1024. As for the demo... Too many explosions, yeah I know who'd of thought. But its kinda like in a battle you can't see anything as there is to much effects happening... But they're still cool. Still getting use to all the structures, I lost my barracks in with my powerplants for GDI and couldn't even see it. haha. But yeah good demo thus far. Haven't played as Nod yet. But those little laser turrets look cool, need to see the big boy in action though. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted February 28, 2007 heheh. You can play as Nod in the demo. "you can play as nod by opening the team select thing and pressing ctrl + Capslock + N, same thing but with G for GDI." Share this post Link to post
illumenatis 0 Posted March 1, 2007 I have to say I am impressed. Im a veteran [of sorts] from CnC Gold and the new interface they put into the game is awesome. I am working my bases like never before. Not only that but it looks just awesome. THe graphics are nice [even tho I did recieve a few glitches on startup, but then everything went smooth] No real cons except the Right click thing. Im used to left click. Share this post Link to post
GeneralZ 0 Posted March 1, 2007 OMG I LOVE THIS GAME. ITS SO MUCH CLASSIC C&C FEELING. If u've played Tiberian sun, you should feel just at home. The powerplants look similiar to the ones, you've got the turbine addons to the powerplants. the ION CANNON IS AWESOME! that thing really packs a wallop compared to TS. all the prices havent changed. it feels so C&C economy. powerplants are 800, war factory and refinery are 2000, u start with 10,000. the economy and feelins is similiar to RA2 and generals, although a bit more fast paced. the money comes in faster, so u can spread out faster. i've been playing so much skirmish...when i first picked it up, even the medium AIs gave me a challenge. the infantry are a bit tad expensive compared to older C&C. normal rifle infantry cost the same as initiates in yuri, 300. grenadiers are awesome against infantry and bunkers. missile guys are too weak. they come in pairs, and they're too slow and weak. they cost 500 too, so they really suck. Nod hit and run tactics really work. Nod buggies and raider can pack a punch agaisnt predator tanks, and THEY HAVE THE BUGGY! i always loved the nod buggy.the cool thing about the games is the cranes, its like dozers, but still MCV style. the game feeling is very much a fast paced tiberian sun. this is the game generals should have been. the graphics look nice, but they're not the best. NOD has the cool looking units, like the glider guys, and both sides have the commando only gdi should get commando! GDI is powerful, but too generic and old school, while NOD has interesting stuff. EVERY1 SHOULD GET THIS GAME. I'M ALREADY PLAYING SKIMISH MODE RELIGIOUSLY. Expect to see GDI Clan online once the game comes out, and call 555-4GDI and join us! Share this post Link to post
Koen 2 Posted March 1, 2007 It's really weird. Money comes in at lightning speed. Making EVA complain that I need silos, and minutes later I'm out of money. The missions included were really easy (on normal). And then I tried skirmish... and I got killed by the Medium AI . How did that happen? Well, he expanded like a maniac, had a second base. I had just a single base, with an Ion cannon, going nicely. And then he threw his nuke. Wiped out my whole base, except for 2 power plants. Suffice to say, I died. How should I know that a Nuke can take out my Construction Yard? The superweapons are way overpowered. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 1, 2007 Err the nuke isn't that powerful... Your key structures shouldn't get wiped out by a single nuke... Share this post Link to post
illumenatis 0 Posted March 1, 2007 Chances are it was already half damaged or under attack when the nuke hit it... Share this post Link to post
Thierry 0 Posted March 1, 2007 I think the Ion Cannon does equal damage now. The Demo is pretty sweet so far, the Superweapon FX's are just ownage Share this post Link to post
GeneralZ 0 Posted March 1, 2007 whats the nuke like? i havent seen it. sorry, but the AI never uses it against me. well maybe cause i put lots of pressure on them. i always take both corners and secure it, so i have my main base and 2 self sufficient mini bases. i hold the middle with grenadiers and predators/garrison missle guys. the grenadiers will take out guys and the tank against stupid nod raiders and buggies. the second i take and secure the corners, i attack with predators and juggernauts in 2 prong attack. do a sat scan of base, use juggernauts to take out laser turret hubs. u kill the hub, they all die, then kill everything else. air support comes in when my units have already attacked and i never get orcas, only firehawks. the main thing that pisses me off is THE APC ONLY CARRIES 1 UNIT WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CANT ENGIE RUSH LIKE THAT. GDI is really lacking in anti infantry. zone troopers arent that great, and while grenadiers kill them fast, they're still mini artillery units. at least at medium or harder, the AI will try to capture the tech buildings and even steal ur own. Guest Rabbit Posted March 1, 2007 I think that Nod in general has a lot stronger special weapons on the left bar. Share this post Link to post
ExcessiveForces=GW= 0 Posted March 2, 2007 nice so far but like someone said theres something missing from it,think nod is way overbarring in there forces and damage they cause ,and gdi base defense are slow and clumsy and besides the basic cannon,(wonder where they got that from?!) ... the positives, well, very smooth game play and i love the zone trooper, got to be my fav so far... TheRoadToDawn 0 Posted March 2, 2007 The Demo definetly brings back that good old Command & Conquer feeling. The only problems I see with the demo is mouse adjustments and some technical problems, such as Nod Beam cannon not firing, Enginners not repairing structures, the Juggernaut walking while its deployed, the repair structure never ceases, and the GDI defenses are very lightly armored (could be me though). Besides these problems, this demo will definatly bring you back to the good old days when you were either sneaking Stealth Tanks in bases or blowing everything away with your Mammoths. Luk3us 63 Posted March 2, 2007 Another thing I like about the demo, is the the load times. It only takes about a max of 10 seconds for a game to kick into gear. Which I think is pretty quick when compared with some other games around... Oh yeah and what part is the repair bug? The part where it seems to "auto" repair your structure or the bit where it leaves the big flashing icon. Or both? Share this post Link to post
TheRoadToDawn 0 Posted March 2, 2007 Oh yeah and what part is the repair bug? The part where it seems to "auto" repair your structure or the bit where it leaves the big flashing icon. Or both? You click to repair your structure but once its finished it still keeps repairing itself. Share this post Link to post
