mormreed 0 Posted July 31, 2007 whats a 64-bit OS do thats different from a regular OS ( which i think is 32-bit? I may be wrong) Share this post Link to post
PunWisp 0 Posted July 31, 2007 i could have gotten a very good dell comp with vista for 300 dollars, but i decided to add extra stuff like built in wirless card thing. which costed total of 657 dollars, which is a good price for the computer i have ^.^ Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted July 31, 2007 technically vista is alot better for gaming then xp. Plus vista is more stable then XP. One of the main reason people say it sucks is because they cant tweak vista like xp... when you try to tweak vista, it backfires on you. Great security, yea that security thing is annoying but if you think about it, its VERY good. yea sometimes you may have probloms playing certain games, because they arnt compatible with vista. Let me tell you, its GREAT for gaming. You wouldnt believe all the things you can do with vista, that xp CANT do. here is a example with just a microphone, you wont need to use the keyboard anymore, or even the mouse(sept gaming) you can voice activate everything, if your on the forums, you talk thru the mic and it will type it for you. no spelling mistake or grammer mistakes. I thought vista was s*** too before i got it. Everyone told me vista was s***, i wanted xp, so we were gonna nuke my new comp coming from dell when it comes. so i went to test the computer, vista is ******* amazing in my opinion. Sure its different but this stuff happens, once you get sued to it, youll love it, and clicking the permission crap is just a regular thing. Lets say this if you had xp, and someone sent you a virus or adware, you wouldnt even know until you use your anti adware/anti virus programs, so thinks can happen with vista it asks you if you gave this file permission to install or look at your files(lets say a virus) click no or cancel, that virus wont be on your computer. xp sure its fun to tweak, but then you have to keep tweaking it because it doesnt work right, sure you can do alot with it. Vista has WAY more security, and justplain able to do more things here is another example if a computer has the parts(only vista) you can plug in multiple monitors, 1 on each side. if you set it up on vista, you can move your mouse off the screen(left) it will go to the next monitor, same thing on the right. Cool or what? my brother did it with his laptop. Most pple who dont like vista is because they cant tweak, or certain games dont work on it. vista is more stable Better for gaming really good security there are amazing things you can do with vista you cant with XP just get Vista and see how you like it. i hated it before i tried it, i tried it, now i love it. i play C&C 3 on it, works great. Fast too trust me vista is a whole lot better then XP also i found it interesting vista loads everything at once, xp doesnt. also vista is alot different, and would take a bit to get used to. Just like playing a good game, different but very fun Where do you get your facts? For the moment, drivers are not utilized fully and games suffer performance wise. The secruity thing? Haha, you're on in a million if you think it's good and protective. It's still bypassable if someone really wants to **** you up and it's more annoying than it's worth anyways. Here's a protip: Don't open .exes that are in emails or random IMs. The mic thing... There's programs that have done this on XP. Free too. Again, not a big factor I wanna buy a 200 dollar OS for. The tweaking thing.. I just reformatted a bit ago. No, no tweaks here. Install drivers, games, and hey, I'm done! The dual screen thing... wtf? You think that can only be done in Vista? Nope, done in XP too. Get a Mac. What's that in the distance? *chirrrp chirppp wusshhhhhhh* it's a... it's a.... nooooooooooo! Share this post Link to post
PunWisp 0 Posted July 31, 2007 actually it is more stable and yea it is better for gaming then xp... has way better security then xp Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted July 31, 2007 You guys should know by now that no matter what punwisp says he always is right. You know, like pigs fly and the earth is flat sorta right. Share this post Link to post
splintercellguy 0 Posted August 1, 2007 technically vista is alot better for gaming then xp. Plus vista is more stable then XP. One of the main reason people say it sucks is because they cant tweak vista like xp... when you try to tweak vista' date=' it backfires on you.[/quote'] Okay, so how exactly is Vista great for gaming? My understanding is that Vista now forces all applications to share the GPU for its fancy effects. Not sure how that helps my FPS. Stability? I have to wait 20 minutes for Vista to complete "system requirement scan" on an OEM laptop that's supposed to run Vista with adequate performance. And as for the tweaking, give examples? If you tweak your registry and delete the keys under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive, it backfires of course. Great security' date=' yea that security thing is annoying but if you think about it, its VERY good.[/quote'] How so? If Vista is going to make me blindly press accept because I'm busy and really don't care, then maybe one day I might accidentally accept a worm. People don't really have the time to scrutinize each and every single file they download. Anyone heard of principle of least privilege? yea sometimes you may have probloms playing certain games' date=' because they arnt compatible with vista. Let me tell you, its GREAT for gaming. You wouldnt believe all the things you can do with vista, that xp CANT do.[/quote'] So incompatibility with old games is great for gaming? with just a microphone' date=' you wont need to use the keyboard anymore, or even the mouse(sept gaming) you can voice activate everything, if your on the forums, you talk thru the mic and it will type it for you. no spelling mistake or grammer mistakes.[/quote'] This feature isn't exactly new. The Speech API has been supported since Windows 95/Windows NT 3.51, so this "remarkable" capability isn't exactly a new feature. Also, applications have to implement specific portions of the SAPI in order to be able to use them with speech recognition. So I can't exactly issue orders using my mic in C&C 3 without some extra work. And in order to get somewhere close to no spelling error, you have to spend hours with recognition training. And grammar mistakes? That's up to you. I thought vista was s*** too before i got it. Everyone told me vista was s***' date=' i wanted xp, so we were gonna nuke my new comp coming from dell when it comes.[/quote'] Shoulda bought a Ubuntu comp or installed from CD. so i went to test the computer' date=' vista is ******* amazing in my opinion. Sure its different but this stuff happens, once you get sued to it, youll love it, and clicking the permission crap is just a regular thing.[/quote'] Hardly amazing when I have to wait 20 minutes on first start-up and still runs like ass. I really don't see anything compelling with Vista at this time. Halo 2 CAN be run on XP with some patch and a new compatibility layer. Crysis is being written for DirectX 9, so it won't be using DX10 features UNTIL a patch comes out. As for permissions, I really don't need to tell Vista to let it move my files to the trash bin. if you had xp' date=' and someone sent you a virus or adware, you wouldnt even know until you use your anti adware/anti virus programs, so thinks can happen[/quote'] Well, what's anti-virus/spyware for? It's also called patching and not going to porn sites. with vista it asks you if you gave this file permission to install or look at your files(lets say a virus) click no or cancel' date=' that virus wont be on your computer.[/quote'] So if you approved an update from Microsoft and its digital signature was forged, you're safe? Again, principle of least privilege. There's absolutely no reason to have any sort of admin power at all. xp sure its fun to tweak' date=' but then you have to keep tweaking it because it doesnt work right, sure you can do alot with it. Vista has WAY more security, and justplain able to do more things[/quote'] Security? ANI exploit anyone? Well, last I checked, Vista doesn't exactly excuse the administrator from tweaking, else why would it have a control panel? There's nothing wrong with tweaking for better performance. OSes don't magically get maximal performance out of the box. if a computer has the parts(only vista) you can plug in multiple monitors' date=' 1 on each side. if you set it up on vista, you can move your mouse off the screen(left) it will go to the next monitor, same thing on the right. Cool or what? my brother did it with his laptop.[/quote'] Support for multi-monitors has been around since Windows 2000; this isn't exactly a new feature. Most pple who dont like vista is because they cant tweak' date=' or certain games dont work on it.[/quote'] And it demands 1 GB for adequate performance when I was chugging fine on 512 MB. vista is more stableBetter for gaming really good security there are amazing things you can do with vista you cant with XP So GPU sharing is good for gaming? And getting nagged is great for security? And what exactly is so special about Vista? .NET Framework 3 runs on XP' date=' WinFS got dropped, maybe DX10 is the reason, but I understand that a Google Summer of Code project is working on implementing DX10 on the Wine compatibility layer. just get Vista and see how you like it. i hated it before i tried it, i tried it, now i love it. i play C&C 3 on it, works great. Fast too Maybe with high specs. trust me vista is a whole lot better then XP also i found it interesting vista loads everything at once' date=' xp doesnt. also vista is alot different, and would take a bit to get used to. Just like playing a good game, different but very fun[/quote'] I tried Release Candidate 2 and retail; I really don't need to get a kick out of my OS. What I care about is actual performance and stability, along with working. And what do you mean by "load everything"? You can't load 50 processes at the same time, you can only load one at a time INHERENTLY. Multitasking is really an illusion, only one process runs on the CPU at any time. TheBlackOut 7 Posted August 1, 2007 Lol when scguy hears Vista in a good light he comes a knockin'. Pwnt. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted August 1, 2007 but I understand that a Google Summer of Code project is working on implementing DX10 on the Wine compatibility layer. I like the sound of that, it'll be the boost that WINE needs to make Linux distros a definite potential alternative to Vista. Here's hoping there's a success story somewhere within that. Vista is just a system heavy rip off of many types of Linux Distros. I like Linux, it's breathed new life into my old computer which I now use as a wireless server for storage and many other great uses. Like running older games on WINE that even XP can't run because of compat issues. Share this post Link to post
splintercellguy 0 Posted August 1, 2007 Linux distros are ALREADY an alternative to Vista . Compiz/Beryl gives you some eye candy bling which is better than Vista's. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted August 1, 2007 Oh I know they are, but if WINE can provide perfect Windows emulation in a DX10 setting, then I'm sold for life! Bye bye windows forever! Share this post Link to post
Hans5849 0 Posted August 2, 2007 I know its been beaten down, but I don't feel like quoting individual lines. Dual Monitors, Try Tripple or Quad as I did have at one point with XP back in 04/05 Games- Vista does good for Direct3D but sucks at OpenGL http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.a...i=2917&p=18 The rest is just poorly written and not worth my time. mormreed 0 Posted August 2, 2007 !rec splin pwnted vista damn doesnt work on forums but anyways what is wine, is it just like a program where you can run multiple OSes in a window? while having the base OS in the background? Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted August 2, 2007 Wine is a program that basically allows you to run programs originally written for windows, in other operationg systems. what does wine stand for? Wine Is Not an Emulator Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted August 2, 2007 I don't think punwisp will be posting in this topic again. Share this post Link to post
PunWisp 0 Posted August 2, 2007 why because i havent responded? vista is newer and technically better, leave it at that. everyone ahs there own opinions Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted August 2, 2007 Newer does not translate into better. That's a faulty assumption. You just won't respond because scguy handed you your ass on a plate with all the trimmings. Share this post Link to post

mormreed 0 Posted August 6, 2007 utterly pwnt there is no comeback to that, and now I might have to check out WINE, my friend has Vista (not my fault) and none of the hacking programs my hacking teacher has work on vista (why yes I am taking a game hacking class, and no I don't understand half the crap the guy says) Share this post Link to post
