Anyway, 89 people kill themselves a day.

I heard about that, quite tragic.

I have to admit, I kinda know how the guy was feeling. To lose so much and be involved in a car accident as well, is a tremendous strain on the mind. Some people are just not able to cope with that sort of personal pressure. He got to that stage where he felt he had nothing to live for.

Such an act like this meant that he was going to take the chance of still living. His thoughts undoubtedly that he was willing to die, but he may still live. Should someone manage to recognise him or know where he lives, maybe he would be saved and maybe his life may just have some significance. His thoughts riding on a lottery of confusion and self doubt. But it wasn't to be.

Good job reducing the surplus population.

I'll try to ignore that comment Tree. That's really just heartless. If you have ever been so depressed and almost so determined to take your own life, or even just have some sympathy. You can put yourself in his shoes, or at least understand what he may have been thinking.

Suicide is no laughing matter, or even a base for sarcasm. Whether it's hanging yourself, slashing your wrists in a hope that you'll bleed to death or even setting yourself alight, the confused and broken mind to go that far is beyond anyone's comprehension unless they understand it, or have been there themselves!

I have a hard time believing that when George Carlin did a whole skit on Suicide and I laughed my head off.

He even suggests an "All Suicide Channel", where someone kills himself on cable TV every minute, on the minute. And in a big finalle, they get 500 people to hold hands and jump off the Grand Canyon.

Suicide is not a laughing matter. I do agree to this. Though I've seen it up close and its not pleasent. Indeed it can be funny to those who view life differently then the person at hand. Even I could see the lighter side of it. But still its just something that should stay out of the spotlight.

I saw a picture of the chatroom itself (Dont ask me for it >_>).

The reaction of the people in the room is sickening.

here are SOME of the messages posted:

"I hope he's insured"

"For some odd reason, my neck is tingly now"

"his face is purple"

"his face is red"

"his deadeded"

Out of all of that, I only saw ONE call the police.

There's a difference between making fun of suicide in general, and laughing at one specific person concerning the topic of suicide.

The first is just humour. The second is harsh, and utterly unacceptable.

I know the difference between these two very well... my girlfriend has gone through several suicidal episodes.

This guy lived in the same town i live in, and to be honest, his face does kinda look familiar, so chances are I'd seen him walking about a few times. I too have known someone who took his own life, and it's one of the most difficult things to undderstand, trying to figure out what was goin through there head.

On the one hand the man should have sought help, professional help, if he was feeling that down that he would be talked into suicide. I know someone who had a bipolar meltdown when he read on a forum that people were planning to kill him. On the other hand if people are going to act that way on the Internet then they should take some responsibility. I am not sure if they should be punished, what charge could you lay at them? But given how some people act on the Internet and especially how some places promote this type of behavior they should realise the possible consequences of their actions.

I have an interesting view on suicide, one that others may share. David Hume wrote a great essay on suicide and is about the same as my personal thoughts. It is indeed, no laughing matter.
