C&C 4 (NOT C&C 3 EX PACK)

Recommended Posts

So obviously C&C 3 could have improved in plenty of areas, but it's selling well and it's C&C! IT HAS RETURNED! Hopefully this means new C&Cs to follow.

So on C&C 4 (which I sense is next after C&C 3 and maybe an FPS C&C) what do you think they could improve on over C&C 3? Campaign, multiplayer, sounds, sights, etc?

Campaign/Acting - Get more detailed and more focused on TIBERIUM. Hardly any mention on GDI's side of reversing tiberium or anything. Just all of a sudden there are blue zones, yellow zones, and red zones. Obviously we know they ARE trying to reverse the affects of tiberium, but show us! Why isn't Nod trying to spread it everywhere?! You'd think when they invaded the blue zones they'd try and plant tiberium EVERYWHERE to ruin the zone, but, it's kind of implied tiberium leaks in, but we can't be for certain. No FS really continuation. What happened to the big flying space ships from TS/FS that GDI had? Ion storms really didn't happen. (this could be in the single/multiplayer section as well) Hardly any mention of mutants, and not just the Forgotten, the fiends and others.

Now for the Acting and the FMVs. I really like Nod's. I felt good acting there. I loved it, though the FMVs felt lacked in length. Not much detail within them, but overall great for Nod. GDI's was dull. "Do this, blah blah, we good guys, woot". Why so liveless? EA you got some great actors, but Westwood just used what they had and yet they made it better and cooler. They had suducing scenes where they pressured the GDI commander to sneak it, it was a lot more fun and entertaining to watch. Watch some of what Recover has posted EA with his videos, and try and take something out of it! I mean what Kane returned, there wasn't any army of Nod in a building "KANE LIVES! KANE LIVES IN DEATH! OUR SHEPARD HAS RETURNED!". Felt tacky.

Tiberium is the center of C&C, don't ignore it. Aliens, cool, all that jazz, but the reason they're here is tiberium, the ideology of Nod is TIBERIUM. GDI's main fear is not Nod, it's the spread of tiberium and how Nod is using it.

Multiplayer - As much as I like it, tank spamming is dull to others and I can understand, but I still like the ole classic feel. Add somethings that are unique, more variety. EA you need to think up of some unique units. All the others were just old C&C units rethought and remodeled. Balancing issues too. Those Sonic Turrets are just damn powerful. Also the lobbies and the communicator is so annoying, BF2142 improved so much over BF2's finder. Why couldn't you do the same thing with C&C 3 over ZH EA? Do it with C&C 4.

Single player - I love it really. C&C 3's skirmish I LOVE, the AI is just so dang good. I haven't had a challenge like this against an AI in a long time. Sure it uses the same paths and tatics, but it's still way more challenging than others!

Maps - Wow. How can I say this? Get more unique. The same damn thing over and over. I know, you want everyone to be balanced and fair, so lets give them the same thing! No no no no! 1v1 are okay and 2v2 really lack. 3v3 are horrid and 1v1v1 are bad. 4v4 maps are pretty decent. Thank God for world builder. Make more maps like tiberium garden and things like that EA! I mean TS's maps were "wow".

Music - Simple to fix. Hire a new guy, or clone Frank. Either will do.

Graphics - Great, but I'm really getting dulled out on the SAGE engine. Make a new one for C&C 4 or just a new C&C RTS if it's coming. RTS is starting to catch up to FPS in graphics, and I personally think this should be the SAGE's last game. It still looks really nice though. I was the first one when C&C 3 was announced on the SAGE engine to question why not put it on a new engine.

If we voice our opinions now, and EA is going to make a new C&C, let them have time to think and consider new things. C&C 3 felt rushed, let EA know what we want to keep, get rid of, and bring in with a C&C 4. EA, you asked for suggestions after you announced C&C 3, you really shouldn't. You should ask us before you start making it, take what you like out of debates, and apply it. Then start working on the game, not while.

Note: I was thinking of putting this in the Future of C&C section, but hardly anyone goes to that section, and this discusses what could be improved from C&C 3 to the next C&C/C&C 4.

I find it funny how the game hasn't been out a month and already everyone wants more. :)

Well I think we're just so excited that C&C is back is natural to want more. And C&C 3 was great but they were things that could of definitely been improved!

I agree with pretty much everything you said there, but about the tiberium, the world borders were redrawn into red, yellow, and blue zones, and I think that focused on tiberium alot, but you're right, there could have been more focus on tiberium.

The science of it and how it truly affects the world basically gets no mention. I mean the world is beginning to fall apart more and more, yet I don't see FMVs of buildings with tiberium rotting them away or anything. :(

I want the generals powers back...those were fun :D

They were cheap and didn't require strategy to obtain. You could spam tanks and get upgrades without researching stuff.

Yea those were helpful but as crdgohan I agree to some extent. Maybe make them harder to obtain.

They might be tolerable if they required 3 times as many kills to get.

I agree, the higher ones should've been harder, but I still don't like how they did it in cnc3 at all

Yah they didn't take any of the good features and ideas out of Gens and incorporate them into C&C 3.

I liked the CNC3 way much more. Someone who had no resources couldnt just rely on generals powers. You also have a way to prevent the enemy from using them in CNC3 by taking out the building that enables them. In generals you had to take out the command center to protect against the attacks

love c&c 3 the way it is... but they have to do something different next time.... they cant keep banking on the same formula. But some things that shouldnt change :

1. interface

2.bring back the jukebox!

3.mammoth/stealth tanks/orcas etc

4...........i get the feeling the list is going to go on hehe so maybe they should, like use the generals brand as some sort of sacrificial goat or something, do something so radically different with it so that its kind of like a testbench. Westwood did the same with dune i think

No way, they are not part of the classic C&C formula for gameplay.

Hmm things to improve on for C&C4? Yeah I pretty much agree with most of what TSBO said.

Since this appears to be a bitch session let me begin.. Muhaahhah

Gameplay things I have issue with.

  • The Radar issue - Nuff said.

[*]Way to many useless units.

[*]Pointless crap - Venom's signature thingey, all the infantry upgrades since infantry are utterly useless, anti EMP thingey for Nod.

[*]Ion storms - Aside from the "localised" versions there are NONE in the game...

[*]Mutants - WTF was the point?

[*]Tiberium take absolutely forever to spread.

On a slightly different note, Fanatics - Sure Nod are a terrorist organisation, but if they have the ability to field tanks, avatars and fancy technology, it boggles the mind as to why they'd have suicide bombers. No where in the history of C&C has Nod ever had anything to do with them... I dislike the entire concept. Even if they are cool to use in combat. :P

Aside from those things, the game is awesome. And will be more so once they FIX the infantry.

wel,l as I understand it, the "classic C&C formula" was supposed to be fun, and those were fun, so they seem to match :P

oh @luk3us, buzzers ftw!

The only thing I want C&C 4 to be is a Red Alert game, otherwise I'll mod C&C 3 down to its bones and make it myself.

"We die for Kane!" and "Kane lives in death!" isn't reason enough?

Have faith in the Brotherhood.

Sorry but I do like innovation from time to time, and the classic C&C formula, aka tank spam, gets dull. Though I do still enjoy it for the most part. :D

Yes, more ion storms and stuff as well. I mean come on, in TS the world was already in semi-apocalyptic mode, it should be in it by now. And the only reason it shouldn't be is if GDI is becoming successful at reversing tiberium's affect, and then why NOT TELL US IT IS IN MORE DETAIL?

Do you see my point now that there is too much wrong with the game in accordance to the universe itself. The game is too much C&C 1.5, "Tiberian mid morning just past 9am", for my liking.

Too few references to the previous games, a distant approach to the universe and a failure to really apply the MIT research they supposedly carried out leaves this game rather sour.

It was really a joint effort between the community and EA that really killed this game for me. Alot of work went into this game, but the finer details, the whole storyline aspect and those nice little touches just aren't there.

Adam Isgreen and the TS/FS developers are doing nothing less than fuming about this game's approach on the storyline. They were happy that C&C is continuing and that the game has a certain quality. But In accordance to the intelligence data in C&C 3

IMO, that entry on CABAL (in C&C 3's intelligence data) felt like a slam on the entire FS dev team and the direction we took the expansion.

whatever.

What I mean is that the wording and brevity of the entry led me (just me) to believe that the subtext (i.e. what they're really saying) in that entry is "Firestorm was a stupid addon and we wish it had never happened. CABAL was lame in general and a dumb idea to wrap an expansion around. Good riddance."

Now you have to remember that we crashed the Kodiak in the beginning of FS on purpose, because many of us didn't like McNeil or Chandra, or any of the other crew from TS. We didn't want to deal with them directly, so we killed them off immediately, although in a very front-and-center incident.

EA did the same thing that we did (trim that which they didn't like), so I can't cry foul. However the tone still feels insulting. It would have been nicer to hear about CABAL's demise in a cine somewhere in C&C3, but oh well.

He could have wrote more about the whole universe, and the world that he created for the franchise, but this was his main pet hate. This is exactly why I was angry with how C&C 3 is, and for the record, this was posted on the petroglyph forums weeks after I left. You can't moan at adam though, he worked tirelessly to create a great story and a changing alien world. But it all got slammed in his face.

No disrespect to Adam Isgreen but he (like everyone else) has absolutely no idea what plans EA have for the expansion pack or possible future C&C games.

How do you get angry at a computer game anyway? Generals sucked big time but I never got "angry" about it, I just stopped playing it. And that was that.

lol, Sonic has a good point. Just don't play the game, becoming angry is just a waste of time.
