Luk3us 63 Posted June 11, 2007 Sure this could be done over PM, but alas. So, after your lovely departure a little while ago, and your attempted self deleting (lol), and temper tantrum, you have returned to us, which is good no doubt... I'm just wondering if your views on the future of the C&C franchise have changed or not? Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 11, 2007 I restored Saracen's admin access due to Zee's current status. There is no rule saying Saracen, as a long time C&C fan, has to like C&C 3 you know. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted June 11, 2007 Yeah I know that, but I just got the impression he was done with the whole C&C scene in general... Share this post Link to post
Redmond Boyle 0 Posted June 11, 2007 So he used to be a guy called CnC King? Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted June 11, 2007 Yeah I'm back, as an administrator. But I don't consider myself here for the love of C&C 3. I am here to help Sonic whom is a long term friend in the running of CNCNZ where he needs it. The Petroglyph community is very quiet at least for another 9 or 10 days, so I have time to kill if and when I'm not having countless staff discussions in the official petroglyph forums. My stance on C&C 3 hasn't really changed. I haven't played the game since I told everyone what I thought of it, and there are no plans to in the immediate future. What has changed now though is my outlook on games in General. My perception of the RTS genre has been seriously put back since C&C 3. And while I may be sounding all excited about Universe at War towards the community, I'm taking the game with a serious pinch of salt. True, the game already has a great soundtrack and some very interesting features. But I'm prepared to be disappointed this time around despite the sheer on-board talent and countless thumbs up previews. So why am I committed to a community when deep down I'm unsure about the game? Simple, I will not allow myself to be too seriously hyped like I was with C&C 3. I will write a review on this game when it's released and will once again give an honest opinion about what I personally think of it. I am a critic, and it's what I do. Unfortunately as a gamer it has come to my attention that games are not as good as they once were. There's too much cloning, too much dumbing down and a seriously bad programming of AI of late. Single play has come down to AI attacking early and en mass. And I for one am not too impressed with the package that gaming is giving us of late. I just hope Universe at War can pull off all the promises and rejuvinate my faith and the Genre as a whole. Quality these days seems to be lacking, and when it comes to C&C, Generals despite it's many flaws was still a better game than C&C 3... But still I like the old skool C&C games and I still play them. As for the future of the Franchise? EALA really have to stop the typical corporate ethics and stop releasing a title every year. Games crafted with passion are created over a number of years, and studios that follow a true passion for what they make are not heavily imposed by restrictive release dates deadlines. C&C can become a greater RTS that can rise above everything if games are given the time to be developed, and are not rushed as C&C 3 really was. You've seen it for yoourself with the actor interviews, most, if not all filming for each character was done in a single day, that would mean that all filming for this game was done in less than a week! It was never like that in the past. Joe Kucan himself would take time over his filming and make sure it was the best it could be... I dunno, the game just seems like it got lots of money and developers thrown at it with a set of instructions and it was done in the least amount of time possible. I just didn't feel that the quality was actually there, and the drastic changes in the 1.05 patch notes hammers my point home. But yeah, I'm not here to apologise to Kaufman or EA for my words, and I'm not here to say C&C rocks.... I'm purely here for the franchises past and to help with a site I've been visiting for almost 10 years now. It's the site and its community, not the game, that keeps bringing me back. But the C&C King name has gone. I'd prefer not to be called that any more since it was a name I chose as a kid, and quite frankly at the time, everyone was using it. The name is no longer in my best interests. I've always wanted the "Saracen" name for the last few years now and it comes from my support of the Saracens Rugby Team as well as my keen interest in the history of the Crusades. Which saw the French and other European nations take on the Saracen Empire over the contested land known (or coined) as the Kingdom of Heaven. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted June 11, 2007 So while I was out of it for a while, King, it would seem, has had a few issues with the franchise. Understandable. So while we're here, whats the new name mean? (besides the fact that you dont like your old one, for obvious reasons) Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted June 11, 2007 Updated the last Paragraph of my above post. I knew I left something out. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted June 11, 2007 Yes, Saracen will truly be here to stay, but, as many people have openly stated in the past, he's here for the community, not for the game itself. Why is that such a big deal, if so many people think that way? Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted June 12, 2007 Interesting about your interest in the crusades....I'm somewhat interested in them as well Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted June 12, 2007 Yes, Saracen will truly be here to stay, but, as many people have openly stated in the past, he's here for the community, not for the game itself. Why is that such a big deal, if so many people think that way? Because it sorta ruins it for everyone else who enjoys the game. Share this post Link to post
Mighty BOB! 5 Posted June 12, 2007 So why am I committed to a community when deep down I'm unsure about the game? Simple, I will not allow myself to be too seriously hyped like I was with C&C 3. Wait, you actually fell for all that hype bull****? Quality these days seems to be lacking, and when it comes to C&C, Generals despite it's many flaws was still a better game than C&C 3... Doctor Destiny 41 Posted June 12, 2007 If C&C3 is that bad, why is it so much fun to play? Share this post Link to post
VampireA05 0 Posted June 12, 2007 He's got a point. C&C3 is bad. although its deliver yet the so called better gaming experience, well, i'm not into it. i wonder if C&C3 got gaming value. to name a few, RA2, Renegade, ZH (C&C series), Diablo, StarCraft, WarCraft (Blizzard), HalfLife, CounterStrike (Valve), GTA (RockStar) these games got gaming value & will gonna play this over & over again. C&C3 on the other hand, is overrated. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 12, 2007 when it comes to C&C, Generals despite it's many flaws was still a better game than C&C 3... Total opposite for me. Generals was so uninspiring for me to play. I'm calling C&C 3 the greatest either, its fun to play, most of the classic elements are there, I'm happy with the game. Most importantly its kept me interested way more that Generals/Zero Hour ever did. I'm not here to apologise to Kaufman or EA for my words There is nothing to apologise for, APOC doesn't show up around here anyway  Share this post Link to post
mormreed 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Generals feels like AOE w/ a C&C skin on it, it's really weird for me to play, because it's so slow, after some RA1 I tried going back to play some Generals, and I just could not stand it, it was soooo slow, other than that Generals was a good game Share this post Link to post
Louis EX 0 Posted June 12, 2007 I tried Generals yesteday, for some reason I didn't like it. It was...boring. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted June 13, 2007 Get the expansion pack, Zero Hour. It's millions of times better than the original game. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted June 13, 2007 I believe I'm just a fan of the more methodical, real speed, real time games. Going back to Universe at war, for all those who don't know, there's a faction called the Hierarchy. This faction is a rather slow, steam roller faction, whose walkers take some time to cross the map. But as they're moving, there's the chance to build them up into sheer unstoppable battle fortresses that spawn a seriously vast range of units. So once they reach a base, these mobile structures are able to take on huge amounts of enemy forces, and have the backup they've created. The original C&C's were all about buidling one thing at a time. For reasons I won't go into (unless you want me to write a whole article on it while bashing C&C 3), I just have a certain preference to it. Sure games took longer and weren't as fast or "fluid"... But I dare anyone to say that in Hindsight that they weren't fun. Cos they were and still are, even if just for nostalgia purposes. The fact of the matter is, after playing C&C 3 for a while, you become used to the gameplay methods within that single game. It would be the same if you only played a game like Tiberian Dawn for a few months, then immediately jumped to RA2. It'd be a culture shock, cos it'd feel too fast. It's all a question of changes in adaptation. But Generals was a strange game for me. I completed the USA campaign and never bothered with the rest... after that I just played Skirmish after Skirmish for many hours over many days. The same was true for Zero hour, But I also played the Generals challenges. Despite being hugely disappointed with the campaign of C&C 3, Skirmishes were not enough to keep me going. The gameplay was good, but it felt like the days where I'd play countless Tiberian Sun Skirmish games, it felt no different from any other C&C ever made, and I just couldn't continue to play it. But whatever Universe at War turns out like I will know where my priorities lie in the gaming world. If everyone is screaming that it is pure excellence and it grabs RTS of the year, yet I'm feeling that it was poorly developed. I'll then realise that I have become bored of the RTS. Dare I say it, I've become a huge fan of the First Person shooter and beat em up genres. Almost mindless pure action games that hold my attention because things are always going on and you haven't got time to take a drink or lapse concentration, It's cos everything is always coming at you. I'm also becoming a huge fan of action adventure games and have got a taste for RPGs. Games I wouldn't normally play, but I'm playing them and enjoying them. To be honest, I don't even use my PC as a gaming machine these days, since I've got my PS3 I'm always on that playing a combination of PS2 and PS3 games. But we'll see how the rest of the year shapes up. 15 years is an awfully long time playing RTS games, and when I've played almost every RTS game ever to hit store shelves, maybe I'm beginning to realise that maybe I've seen it all. Maybe it's time to cut down, it's like an addiction out of control. Like drugs themselves. I've had so much I've now become immune to what makes each title great. Time to cut down I think. TheBlackOut 7 Posted June 13, 2007 these games got gaming value & will gonna play this over & over again. C&C3 on the other hand, is overrated. I play C&C 3 over and over again. It's not overrated. Sorry. Generals feels like AOE w/ a C&C skin on it, it's really weird for me to play, because it's so slow, after some RA1 I tried going back to play some Generals, and I just could not stand it, it was soooo slow, other than that Generals was a good game AoE? Umm... I got a better one, Starcraft. Generals toolbar... Play SC then play Gens and it'll look very very similar. Get the expansion pack, Zero Hour. It's millions of times better than the original game. Yep, Generals SUCKS in comparison to ZH. They really made ZH good. They should of supported it better and it'd still be a BIG RTS. C&C 3 is good. It was bad w/ tank spam. But patched up now it's great. Really, it is. Share this post Link to post
mormreed 0 Posted June 13, 2007 planning on getting the SC battles chest SC looks pretty awesome so I'll give it a shot and if it's good hope my computer can run SC2 P.S.- how long you think until Blizzard makes an SC mmorpg, basically WOW but in SC Edit: and as soon as I can I'm gonna get the 1st decade pack w/ ZH in it Share this post Link to post

Mighty BOB! 5 Posted June 21, 2007 Yes, the 1.05 patch definitely made C&C3 more like what it should have been when it hit shelves. Also I wouldn't get TFD if I were you. Too many bugs. I'd grab the originals off of ebay if I were you. But that's just me. Share this post Link to post
