We were not that worried aboout Global Climate change until after the huge Earthquake and Tsunami hit on 26th Dember 2004 and caused widespread damage to the Aceh Province in Indonesia, South India and Sri Lanka.

 

Why?

 

Well what people have forgotten about this day in particular is the force of the earthquake in the Indian ocean. At 9.3 Mw this earthquake shook the work, literally. So much in fact that it has altered the earth's rotation pattern and has shifted the axis of earth by around an inch. While this won't sound very much it has changed the weather patterns slightly around the globe.

 

The earthquake shortened the length of a day by 2.68 microseconds (2.68 µs, or about one billionth of the length of a day), due to a decrease in the oblateness of the Earth..... However the natural Chandler wobble of the Earth, which in some cases can be up to 15 m (50 ft), will eventually offset the minor wobble produced by the earthquake. But until the natural wobble takes effect, the earth is going to suffer some minor changes in the way the climate works.

 

On the so called other side, we have to argue that the USA is the largest producer of CO2 emissions on the planet. With many families driving pickups that can barely reach 4 miles to the gallon, this nation is the one who could cause problems. In fact the entire population of China cannot exhale as much Carbon Dioxide in 12 months as a single pickup in the USA can in the same time period.

 

But in all honesty governments shouldn't be just stopping civilians from using energy and their cars. More action is needed to replace the amount of trees and plants that are wiped out each and every day. The things we rely on for our supply of oxygen and the removal of carbon dioxide through photosynthesis.

 

Governments also need to start clamping down on huge corporate oil companies and the companies whom of which produce the cars, trucks we drive. If say, on day X of month Y of year Z all companies which wish to produce cars by mandatory practice have to make their cars either Hybrid or full electric. We could potentially within the next 10-20 years slash a huge amount of production of emissions. And we'll be saving alot on a natural resource.

 

But as it stands, Oil companies and governments have a supreme greed over this Black liquid Gold. With entrepreneurs such as Richard Branson helping to work towards running their vehicles on fats, and others water, the idea of these working is 100% guaranteed in theory. But because of the greed and the reliance of the worlds economy on crude oil, in practice, it looks very grim. The fact is that until greed disappears, this world will never be able to change for the better.

That's great in theory but it's not practical since not everyone can afford something like that. I drive an old junker from the early 90s as that was what I can afford but not everyone can take the financial strain. Even with advances, the prices on vehicles like these would be astronomical.

 

But even still, most big vehicle manufacturers have hybrid models. They're not as mainstream yet but they are available and manufacturers are developing more fuel efficient vehicles to aid the situation as well. But it's less the smaller vehicles than it is the giant smokestacks and diesel trucks.

Not everyone has public transit nor is it feasible for a bicycle to be used. I work 25 miles from home. I sure as **** am not biking that distance twice a day... neither are most people. Alternate methods are great but it's not always feasible.

If this was due to 'global warming', then obviously plants would not be retaking the desert

2 Storms appear more often

Wrong again; actually, there were very few hurricanes in the 90's to hit the US...14. So far there have been 14 in the 2000's to hit the US...that indicates no increase whatsoever.

 

What is interesting is that excepting the 20's, 1960-2007 has seen the least number of hurricanes per decade as has ever been seen all the way back to 1861 (when hurricanes were started to be recorded). Where is that "extreme weather you are talking about?

3 More Exotic plants appear

If you mean that more plants will thrive because of the increase of CO2 (however minute), then yes, I agree that the rise of CO2 will do that

4 Malaria Spreads!!

Are you kidding me? that is solely due to DDT being effectively banned in the 70's by the US government, and if other poor countries didn't, they didn't get foreign aid. At the time DDT was banned, 50,000 people (out of ~5 billion at that time) around the world died each year of malaria; now, 2 million die each year, and since the tragedy, around 50 million people have died from malaria.

Just gonna say this:

where I live there really isn't too much public transportation sure we have train but thats a couple miles away and we have no buses in my town or taxis, all we have is one train station and not really much to do in town so you get a bunch of friends and get someone's parents to drive you to the mall, that's why getting your license and a car is such a big thing here and it's why so many people have cars, but in the city you don't need a car, the traffic is too bad to drive half the time and the subway takes you to all the places of your dreams

Remember the northeast blackout in 2003 when a cascade effect caused many power grids in the northeast US and parts of southeast Canada to fail?

Yep. I wish all the Governments would come together and set a couple days aside a year and not do anything. Just chillax. Let the factories not pollute for a couple days, let the air kinda clear out, and smog 'er up again!
