"Good graphics don't make a good game"

They don't? :shock:

They're an added bonus. If a game has awesome gameplay with awesome graphics, AWESOME! But... Gameplay > Graphics

Depends... Too crappy graphics can ruin a good game completely... Like Freelancer, which came out late, and had nice gameplay, but it sucked in terms of graphics... Which really, quite made the gaming experience slightly bad...

graphics doo have a big role in games now, you may not realise it, but people want more, companies want something different, new, somethign to make them money, 3D makes it realistic, old C&C games werent even close to realistic, but gameplay is what makes it real good

so pretty much its a 50 50 thing

gameplay=50

graphics=50

without one or the other game would suck

We know this. The general public likes pretty, but the actually game is what should be graded.

"Don't judge a book by it's cover" comes to mind.

I think it looked fairly realistic considering what they had to work with.

Back in the day, circa 1994, people called xclock using 1.4 MB memory hogging. Resources were a luxury. If people could have had 1 GB systems back in 1995, then the graphical quality of C&C would have been better.

Do you even have a sense of technological advance?

We are visually spoiled nowadays; C&C DID look realistic, because games used to play in what we call low-res now. The player had to use its fantasy to fill in the blanks. As alphabear said, they had less work with.

Graphics aren't all that important anyway. Just look at Hearts of Iron 2. That, right there, is a great game, because it has tons of gameplay, even though the graphics aren't pretty.

Even Renegade's graphics aren't the best, but it's still a kick-ass game. :nod:

I'll take the classic C&C gameplay over shiny graphics any day. I wouldn't mind if a company was brave enough in this day of 3D games to make a 2D shp game again as long as it had awesome gameplay.

unless someone else makes it... i highly doubt EA will swich to 2D, 3D is the new generation of gaming.... there wont be as many buyers if you think about it.... sure theres alot of DBZ fans, but list all the veterens.... sure i would buy it if its good, but how many veterens you think there are? alot of pple just buy it cus its fun. pple are wanting 3D nowadays

On the contrary, SunAge is creating a huge storm around RTS communities and that's 2D. It's not just veterans either. There are people who are new to the Genre who have mega interest in this game. Even the giant gaming community Gamereplays has given this game some huge coverage. And the company have me to thank for it's discovery amongst RTS communities.

Don't think that because things aren't 3D, a majority of people won't buy it. Everyone loves a bit of the old days. Those who don't are those who are ignorant , and prefer graphics over gameplay. Like X-Box 360 fanboys. :P
