BattleCast Website Enhanced & Viewer Available

Recommended Posts

APOC has made a couple of announcements on the Official C&C 3 Forums. Firstly, the BattleCast section of the Official C&C 3 Site has been upgraded. It's fast, lets you find the matches you want to check out and more. Basically it works way better than it did before. APOC explains more below.....

Hey everyone,

As promised, we dramatically enhanced the BattleCast Website System today, actually around lunch time earlier, so apologies for not posting earlier, we were sneaky for a bit!

Let me tell you, the BattleCast Website system now runs incredibly fast and quite frankly is the fastest place to go to find a replay for anyone who has BattleCasted their match, or even cooler, anyone who wants you to watch their match live.

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BATTLECAST YOUR MATCH, just make sure the box is clicked before you start a match online.

We'll be discussing the enhancements in more depth early next week, but here is a general outline:

COOLEST NEW FEATURE - You can go in to anyone's profile, view their match history, and for any match they have BattleCast, you can click that line in their history and it will take you instantly to the match in our BattleCast system to download and watch! Want to watch top ladder players matches quickly, click their name and view their history, click a BattleCast match and its as easy as that.

- The system now runs on a a different back-end so the performance in general has increased 10-fold. As soon you login to the system, you'll almost immediately be presented with matches to choose from.

- Click the Search tab arrow and you'll see similar options to select from, but they are much more user friendly to work with. The search system in general is very quick now.

- Click "My Matches" to instantly view all matches which YOU have BattleCast. The same goes for "My Clans Matches", if you are in a Clan

- Click "Top Matches" and you'll be presented with a new section where the "best" C&C 3 BattleCast matches are filtered to by a new top secret highly confidential mathematical algorithm. Generally speaking, a lot of factors including rank, skill, experience, record, etc go in to this algorith which places matches here. This will be updating constantly.

- Click "Historic Matches" to see matches which we will eventually deem "HISTORIC". This is where myself and team place the best replays of C&C 3 ever, and I mean EVER. Or significant matches, like a WCG final for example. This section will update soon and be ongoing.

That is the top-line, there are a lot more intricate enhancements which we will discuss early next week. Hit up the enhanced BattleCast system at this link.

And to go with the improvements, the long awaited BattleCast Viewer is finally available. With the BattleCast Viewer you can watch the latest and greatest matches by top players and all players BattleCasting from around the world. If you already own a copy of C&C 3 you don't have to download the BattleCast Viewer, you already have it. If you don't have C&C 3 grab the BattleCast Viewer using the link below.

dl_icon.gif C&C 3 BattleCast Viewer (1.4 GB)

You will notice the BattleCast Viewer is a 1.4 GB download. What your downloading is essentially all the files that make up C&C 3, like the models, textures and sounds. But what you can't do is play any games, only watch them.

Yeah the battlecast system seems to actually work now! Which is in itself amazing.

Though pitty EA took this long to release the viewer, I wonder how many people will download it who don't already have the game...

The BattleCast Viewer would have ten times more of an impact if it was released close to the game's release, a pity it took until now.

All this is great, but im afraid its too late. The game is mostly balanced now, and all the bonuses are nice, but people are annoyed with Gamespy and how the game played before, which put them off. I dont think there are too many playing it, which is a shame, and im uncertain wheter this will change with KW, since it has a reputation by now.

I will download this Viewer though.

WARNING!

If you have the game installed, dont download the viewer!

It halts the installation of it after finding out that theres a copy, since "every feature of the BCV is already contained in the game"!

People need to read the news more carefully. You don't need to download BattleCast Viewer if you already have C&C 3 installed. Why are you guys downloading it if you have the game already?

News flash!!! C&C 3 plays replays just like the BattleCast Viewer does.

Its still a bit cheaper than buying the full game to watch replays though. :P

I know this is a dumb statement, but I can't help myself...

I have to admit that I was always expecting the that C&C3 would simply export the replays in a format that would allow a 10-50mb program to play it... thinking that the benefit of replays would be for people to entice them into the game, and really 1.5gb is a bit of a mouthful when you can just crawl through youtube or something similiar.

I only have one copy of C&C3 but sometimes when I have internet access away from home comp, I'd be interested to watch a replay. So I was looking forward to the replay viewer.

So here's my other noob question, how possible would it be to convert the viewer into a playable game? I'm guessing this is the reason for the delay...

Reason for the large file size is the texture, images, audio and so to render the game / replay in non user environments.

And it wont be, the Viewer is a Viewer, it will not have all the user input code that the release build of the game has.
