Sonic 294 Posted March 18, 2008 I'm sure I've seen the image many years a go, at least another version of it. But that is very close to the Advanced Power Plant from Red Alert. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 18, 2008 lol? Perhaps someone at Westwood got their inspiration from this actual building? Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 18, 2008 Ahh the good old Battersea Power Station in London. A Grade 2 listed building which means it's protected from fat cat property developers who'd rather see offices in it's place.... Reportedly Worth around £400 million! A great British Landmark! If anyone's interested in finding out more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battersea_Power_Station Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 6 Posted March 18, 2008 I'm really interested to know if Westwood did get the inspiration from this building. Or maybe they saw it on Pink Floyd's album and decided to copy the design? Who knows, but I'm actually pretty curious. Edit: From the wiki, "The building was used as inspiration for the "Advanced Power Plant" structure in the PC game Command & Conquer: Red Alert"... Probably true but it was un-cited, would be nice to get a confirmation. Share this post Link to post
Overcow 0 Posted March 18, 2008 Edit: From the wiki, "The building was used as inspiration for the "Advanced Power Plant" structure in the PC game Command & Conquer: Red Alert"... Probably true but it was un-cited, would be nice to get a confirmation. And how do we know they are correct this time? Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 18, 2008 Rofl. That is a landmark? hahahahhahaha It's not a small building Luk3us. If you stand at certain points in London, you can see that thing for bloody miles. Something doesn't have to be uber cool to get landmark status. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 18, 2008 I realise that, its just that it seems so, "ordinary" to be a landmark. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 18, 2008 Nah, it's totally defunct now, and just sitting there. But because it's a Grade 2 Listed building, it's constantly repaired and looked after. If it's maintained for the next 50-100 years or so, it'll become a British Heritage site. It may even get world heritage in about another 200 years Share this post Link to post
Louis EX 0 Posted March 18, 2008 That looks really cool. They should paint it with pretty colours since its so dull. lol joking. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 6 Posted March 18, 2008 Pink and green like they do in Brazilian slums would look good... Share this post Link to post
CCHyper 3 Posted March 18, 2008 Yay, Battersea power station, that place is awesome Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 19, 2008 Pink and green like they do in Brazilian slums would look good... They didn't really do that did they? Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 6 Posted March 20, 2008 They didn't really do that did they? A lot of slums in Brazil/South America are painted "festive" colors. Why? Many claim to make it more... appealing to foreigners/tourists. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 20, 2008 Yeah I heard something about that. Its just so wrong though, I mean please... Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted March 22, 2008 Why? It seems pretty awesome to have green/yellow houses Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 24, 2008 Then why don't you go paint your house green and yellow? Share this post Link to post
Azrael 0 Posted March 31, 2008 Hm... Reminds me of the old days of Red Alert... Especially early games. Share this post Link to post
