Evolution is taking place

apeMS2604_468x336.jpg

A male orangutan, clinging precariously to overhanging branches, flails the water with a pole, trying desperately to spear a passing fish.

It is the first time one has been seen using a tool to hunt.

The extraordinary image, a world exclusive, was taken in Borneo on the island of Kaja, where apes are rehabilitated into the wild after being rescued from zoos, private homes or even butchers' shops.

Epic.

That looks cool, but is taht paper credible? I mean monkies do funky things, but I dunno about that one...

I wouldn't put it outside possibility though. Remember, humans had to begin in the same manner. Any primate figuring out tools isn't that far off-base but it does look like it was Shooped.

Reminds me of this classic shopped image that done the rounds and fooled many people.

How about the near perfectly straight stick? Tree branches don't grow perfectly straight like that you know ;)

If that really is an orangutan using a tool, there's no evidence to suggest that other orangutans are using tools. Also, shopped.

is it really that hard to believe? i'm guessing that one is probably photoshopped but chances are sooner or later various monkeys and apes are going to start using tools. like DD said we started off in the same way o.O though personally i wish it were reptiles that were evolving >.> now that would be awesome. lizard men =3 but let's face it, most monkeys are only a short way behind us... only thing is we'll probably wipe out all life on the planet before they evolve enough D=

Eh, I don't think its that big of a leap really. I mean monkeys use rocks to mash open nuts and throw at tigers and stuff.

Catching fish with a spear is quite a big step from throwing a few rocks.

not really. still using tools... it's just a slightly better tool for the purpose o.o i've seen monkeys push sticks into ant and termite nests then eat the bugs off the stick before. is it so hard to believe they could think to catch fish with it? apes are smart enough to use sticks to get things that are out of their reach (also seen this happen)

Its when those Ape's start using those sticks to chase humans around that we should start to be concerned. :P haha
