Louis EX 0 Posted April 30, 2008 A male orangutan, clinging precariously to overhanging branches, flails the water with a pole, trying desperately to spear a passing fish. It is the first time one has been seen using a tool to hunt. The extraordinary image, a world exclusive, was taken in Borneo on the island of Kaja, where apes are rehabilitated into the wild after being rescued from zoos, private homes or even butchers' shops. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...66&ito=1490 Epic. Sonic 296 Posted April 30, 2008 PhotoShop does amazing things theses days doesn't it. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted April 30, 2008 That looks cool, but is taht paper credible? I mean monkies do funky things, but I dunno about that one... Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted April 30, 2008 I wouldn't put it outside possibility though. Remember, humans had to begin in the same manner. Any primate figuring out tools isn't that far off-base but it does look like it was Shooped. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted April 30, 2008 Reminds me of this classic shopped image that done the rounds and fooled many people. Share this post Link to post
Dr. Rodney McKay 0 Posted April 30, 2008 I don't doubt that it's possible, but the splash in the picture looks a bit odd to me. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted April 30, 2008 How about the near perfectly straight stick? Tree branches don't grow perfectly straight like that you know Share this post Link to post
Tree 0 Posted April 30, 2008 If that really is an orangutan using a tool, there's no evidence to suggest that other orangutans are using tools. Also, shopped. Share this post Link to post
Louis EX 0 Posted May 1, 2008 Orangutans don't eat fish. >_> Maybe he's bored. Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted May 1, 2008 is it really that hard to believe? i'm guessing that one is probably photoshopped but chances are sooner or later various monkeys and apes are going to start using tools. like DD said we started off in the same way o.O though personally i wish it were reptiles that were evolving >.> now that would be awesome. lizard men =3 but let's face it, most monkeys are only a short way behind us... only thing is we'll probably wipe out all life on the planet before they evolve enough D= Share this post Link to post

They'd eat you... Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 1, 2008 Eh, I don't think its that big of a leap really. I mean monkeys use rocks to mash open nuts and throw at tigers and stuff. Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted May 1, 2008 Catching fish with a spear is quite a big step from throwing a few rocks. Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted May 2, 2008 not really. still using tools... it's just a slightly better tool for the purpose o.o i've seen monkeys push sticks into ant and termite nests then eat the bugs off the stick before. is it so hard to believe they could think to catch fish with it? apes are smart enough to use sticks to get things that are out of their reach (also seen this happen) Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted May 2, 2008 Its when those Ape's start using those sticks to chase humans around that we should start to be concerned. haha Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted May 2, 2008 i've seen that happen too xD and i've seen little monkeys riding motorbikes o.O http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVzY6MtAAkQ Share this post Link to post
