Sonic 296 Posted October 25, 2008 The first of many Red Alert 3 reviews that your going to be seeing in the news over the next couple of weeks has arrived. This one is from the Games Radar. A final score of 9/10 was awarded. As always, here's sample to get you started. Each of the three factions' nine-mission campaigns can be played solo or in co-op mode (see below); in each, you win the war for your side. In solo mode, the forces that would have been controlled by your teammate are run by a friendly AI competent enough that it usually doesn't require babysitting, and can even respond to your attack orders in a rudimentary sort of way. RA3's boldest move is to allow every single mission to be played in co-op mode. This is a novel approach that's never been tried in a major RTS, but EA has pulled it off almost flawlessly. This mode is a dream come true for non-competitive RTS fans who like to play with instead of against their friends, but find unstructured skirmishes against AI opponents unfulfilling. Tank 0 Posted October 25, 2008 what 9 missions only per side? that's a bit content light, and don't come here but there is mp aswell, living in south africa i've got the slight problem of lines being permanently throttled so unless there are local servers mp is gonna be a bit of a issue, but still looking forward to it. the game is gonna rock no doubt. beta itself was a shlep, managed to play 2 games but latency was bad Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted October 25, 2008 9 is a standard number, its still 27 missions, more than enough imo. Co-op shall be interesting. Share this post Link to post
Tank 0 Posted October 25, 2008 true enough 27 total, good enough, but meh empire and soviets are not really my favorite sides, the anime feel of the empire is well kinda blegh to me. Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted October 25, 2008 Unless they patch co-op into lan i probably wont be experiencing it anyway. Might do a level or two online but nothing more than that. Share this post Link to post
G0NE2W4R 0 Posted October 25, 2008 Red Alert 2 had 12 missions for Allied and Soviet, so it's 3 missions short. 9 missions might still be good to tell a cool story. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted October 25, 2008 And it depends on the length of the missions too. I like a nice lengthy stealth mission with a lot of sneaking around and such. Those are the best. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted October 25, 2008 What's amused me is that they say the gameplay is too fast. They better not have bumped up the speed, or this will turn my opinion of the gameplay upside down. I enjoyed the current speed, it was just right. If it's become another case of listening too much to the so-called "Hardcore" I will seriously pull my hair out! Share this post Link to post
Tank 0 Posted October 25, 2008 only a few days to release now, so who's really excited? i know i am. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted October 26, 2008 I'm looking forward it, can't say I'm excited, I don't really get excited about games any more. The true test for me to continue playing RA3 will be how good it during the campaign. Can it pull me in, give me enough to even care. Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath failed to do this for me, after about the 4th mission on the GDI side and then another lacklustre cutscene where an emotionless actor told me what to do next I gave up. I never bothered to start the Nod side, so never play the Scrin stuff either. Fast forward to Kane's Wrath, it was the same all over again. Gave up at about the 5th mission I think. Fingers crossed that RA3 delivers more. Share this post Link to post
hagren 0 Posted October 26, 2008 RA3s campaign is going to suck even more, so don't get your hopes up. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted October 26, 2008 That's gotta be Sarcasm Hagren, you've been an ambassador to the whole "keep your chin up" attitude.... so I'm gonna ignore that statement Share this post Link to post
hagren 0 Posted October 26, 2008 No, I'm not sarcastic at all. All reviews so far critisize AI, pathfinding and the campaign. So it's better to lower expectations. I'm not even sure if I'm going to purchase RA3, especially if it turns out to be German only. Perhaps I'll buy WiC instead. That at least takes itself more seriously. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted October 26, 2008 so its like a smart optimism....your lowering your expectations because you want to be pleasantly surprised? lol Share this post Link to post

You mean the one and only review so far? Don't forget, reviews are one persons opinion. RA3 German only, what do you mean by that. Share this post Link to post
hagren 0 Posted October 26, 2008 Ie. not multilingual. I've read two other German reviews so far btw. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted October 26, 2008 AI and pathfinding can be fixed... if the campaign sucks then so be it... it'll prove that EA really need to step up a few gears and will have to sort out their acts in this department. Watch my opinion in the upcoming review... I can hammer down and find the real experience pretty quickly. If this campaign is a load of balls you'll know.. Just don't expect the same flaming rampage as with C&C 3 this time Share this post Link to post
Overcow 0 Posted October 27, 2008 HOLD IT! That review is from PC Gamer US! NOT Games Radar! PC Gamer US and UK post stuff on there but they still wrote it. Share this post Link to post
