Red Alert 3 Reviewed by GameSpot

Recommended Posts

Next in line to review Red Alert 3 is GameSpot. And once again the game has achieved a very positive score of 8/10. The reviewer did find problems with the pathfinding and some animation glitches (these can be addressed in a patch). They also said the co-op invite system is "clunky". Anyway, here's the usual sample.

Red Alert 3's visuals pop right off of the screen. The colors are bright and vivacious, and therefore perfectly suited to the game's in-your-face mirth. Tropical maps are drenched in golden light, and multicolored beach umbrellas dot the shores, both contributing to and contrasting with the visual splendor of exploding hammer tanks. They also feature possibly the finest water effects yet seen in an RTS game, and the sunlight dances pleasantly on the turquoise waves. Electrical effects such as those emitted by Tesla coils also deserve particular mention for the flashiness of their violent zaps. Units are detailed and the most unusual ones look really cool, so though Red Alert 3 doesn't push a lot of polygons, its lovely design brings a modern look to an older franchise while running smoothly on a variety of systems. One interesting graphical feature is the yellow outline that surrounds selected units, which is a neat choice but a double-edged sword. On one hand, it lets you easily identify your own selection on the screen and can be a welcome visual cue. On the other, the outline is a bit too thick, which makes it difficult to identify which type of units you've selected. It also makes it easy to get confused if a competitor chooses yellow as his or her unit color in a multiplayer match.

Pretty good read. Sadly it seems the first patch that's already out fixes the co-op invites. Pity they didn't get it in the review version of the game.

I have to admit I'm very surprised that it got a lower score than CNC 3. Sure, CNC 3 was fun and looked good, but Scorp spam got tiresome after a while. In RA 3 there's no real way to spam, not even Shoguns if your opponent knows what he's doing. Still it's a great score, and the review was nice and in-depth. :D

C&C3 scored high because it revived the franchise.I think Ra3 will be better then C&C3

Yeah, I think his impressions should have led to a score of 8.5. Still 8 is a good score as well, and except the pathfinding, there's not much that has been critisized yet.

diserves better score! so go vote for it! ;)

but yeah path finding really needed more work especially arroud the sea maps....i hoped they have improved it since the Beta...well that why we have patches.

i also notice that in the Video Review (wich is the future of reviews i get boring reading) the game is Single Player was laging a lot!!! now they propobley played with some laggy friend online, or

the pc that they install it was poor! i nevered had those kind of lags in my gameplay time during Beta....

if you have a good Eye you will notice it too especially when the enginners get are getting out of the bullfrog and then with Natasha going into a small island...lots of LAG in game responce!

that was a major issue in the past C&C games due to the Engine runing Time in FPS and not SEC. but i have seen NO PROBLEMS in BETA! B)

what the hech GameSpot was trying to proove?:huh::unsure:

also what was that st comment and compair to Universe At War? if UAW could be just half interesting during its all gameplay and single player as RA3 IS, then they could talk about it!

Ra3 > UAW .- period the only Amazing in UAW was Music.

and RA3 doesnt want the 3 races to Be totally different from its other! if they want to be THAT much differend as Zerg vs Terran they EALA would make an other game not Ra universe!

the review Was BAD!

you dont judge it a game that "bad" because there ws a graphic error in one mission or two! are you sure was not your Hardware/drivers fault?

also we should score a game low if it has issues That CANT BE FIXED, like story, fun during gameplay, nice visual effects, cinematics, strategy.

Red Alert 3 HAS ALL OF THOSE! wake up GameSpot! things like AI path and few visula glitches can and Would be easilly fixed in a patch!

so still i belive the game is low scored i would give it 8.8 - 9.2

oh and this amazing EORS cinematic the beginging...oh boy! i love the Camera movement and the all Feeling its AMAZING! well done guys and girls over EALA. :king:

The beta was turned off a month ago...

i can still play it of line and in LAN for debuging perposes only ;)

thats the only way we could verify all those 100's of bug/issues reports over our C&C Community Bug database that were posted during the BETA phase.

i am "co op" with APOC and EALA on that issue as hard as me and my Team can. Thanks to you guys and your helpfull reports.

if i remember corectly there were reported over 380bugs Just for the RA3 Beta! i needed more time to check them all out so we can play the beta LAN and SandBox just to

verify those issues and update our database!

thats why i am so sure RA3 will be a Blast! and the next game under construction will be EVEN Better! (i dont know anything for sure, just that the RNA engine is keep on upgrading for more!)

EA is puting lots of attention and money on this amazing RTS Team. Trust them, Trust is not gona heart nobody, just a little trust and patience!
