hmm. sounds remotely interesting. but does it have an english language option when viewing stuff? though also i'm guessing like, half or more of the video titles will be in an asian language (not to mention "moon talk" XD) so yah... i can't read anything other then english so it wouldn't be much use to me :\ sounds like a good site though...

 

though in all honesty i think i'll probably stick with youtube. generally the content i look at is either funny videos, songs i like and british adverts when i want to show other people funny things i've seen XD

I think you misunderstood me there, I said the videos are good, not YouTube.

 

Besides its pointless to say which site has higher quality because everybody would still use YouTube anyway.

 

I suppose. However again, as I said, if they bothered to deliver an English site, YouTube would be overshadowed quite quickly.

They had announced in their blog (and going from a rough translation...) that there would be an English video player, but they haven't done that yet. If you're like me and can find what you want through reading the link locations instead of the text and clever use of copy and paste, then you can get around the site just fine, anyway.

eeeer no. if i wanna watch a clip site i want it IN ENGLISH and i want it to do what it says. i don't want all these silly extras. and why do you think youtube would be overshadows? o_O right now they are one of the most popular sites on the internet (in the west anyway) short of google. look at how many hits youtube gets per day... it is just insane. i doubt anything could easily overshadow it... if this little player was introduced in english, no-one would have heard of it over here.

 

it would have to slowly grow over time and become popular... and chances are that if it has or does anything that is unique and good to that player, youtube will make a bigger better version quickly.

there you go xD everything has a monopoly on it (in the west anyway...). with search engines it's google... with OS's it's microsoft... with video displaying it's youtube. they get any competitors, they buy them out. simple as that. if this nico site does come to the west, fully translated i'm not saying that it'll be bought out, but it just won't succeed. everyone is used to youtube. this other site when brought over would either have no content first of all because it's just started up, or all the videos, members and comments already on the site would be in asian languages and moonspeak.

 

even most of the hardcore weeaboos get lost on sites with moonspeak, how do you think all our parents and such are going to manage? they're gonna take one look at it and go "i don't understand this. i don't like it. it's not like youtube. i've got an account and i just learnt how to upload my videos on youtube..." and the only videos on this nicovid site that youtube apparently steals are ASIAN videos. i somewhat doubt that they are the first to upload AMERICAN comedies, BRITISH adverts, or generally any western or european songs.

 

youtube is generally made up of music, AMV's, tv shows, funny movie sections and little family videos which people have uploaded of their kitten spinning in circles or their baby mis-pronouncing words so they sound rude. yes, SOME of the videos, normally music videos or random quiz-show type things... normally those random shows where cute japanese girls have to do weird things to win and so on. and those are normally uploaded by westerners who don't have a clue what is going on and just want to laugh at those "wacky japs"...

 

the asian music videos are almost always uploaded by weeaboos or the occassional asian who got lost. then the vid gets spammed with comments of weeaboo fangirls swooning over how cute that boy band is...

 

you have to remember the people that hang around on youtube. it's generally everyone in america (continent) and europe. from small children to middle aged parents to old grandparents o.o; a large percentage of these people are not likely to give up something which they know and trust, and change to something which is in a language they don't understand and can't even guess at because it doesn't even use the english alphabet XD

Built from inexpensive parts and sold at an absurdly higher cost only to be overhyped because of the interface, which is the ONLY thing it does well. Yes. In fact I've noticed from an eagle-eyed member of another forum that they're now using h.264 with AAC audio. I would say this puts it on even terms with NicoVideo but the specific h.264 codec YouTube is using for the high-def format is VERY old.

It was the exact opposite in Nico's case. They were PART OF youtube.co.jp until congestion took its toll. Why wouldn't it succeed? There must be a reason it did so much better than YouTube within Japan's borders that it had to break away... and yes, everyone is used to YouTube already, but think of an english NicoVideo site launch as the introduction of a new Nokia or LG smartphone; popular with the sensible types that know something worth their time when they see it.

 

I do understand that YouTube is under Google's ownership and thus as a company they can't be touched, but popularity can change even if a company's standing can't. There's no reason to expect an underdog to not only stay afloat, but stay reasonably popular. See Yahoo! as an excellent example.

Windows mobile sucks. The iPod is a great piece of hardware and I swear by it, I've dropped it stepped on it and pulled it apart multiple times, still works perfectly fine, the only time I had a problem was when I had to replace the headphone jack, which just happens to be a $5 part and takes all of 10 minutes to change. Then I accidentally didn't plug the HD chord in enough and got an error message, popped it open replugged all the connections and it works perfectly, I've had it since 8th grade (in 11th now) and now I can plug it into my car audio system with a tape that has a 3.5mm connector on it which just makes everything so much better.

 

Edit: But Apple's OS sucks most definitely.

pish... i'll stick to pc's and windows... macs are nice and all... but eh... they really don't offer a whole lot of options when it comes to upgrading... not to mention that macs are pretty much standardized with the types you can get. i'm guessing in theory you could get a bigass case and put the mac parts in it and somehow fix it all together...

 

and don't get me wrong, macs have great power in their apparently low-level specs... when i went to my computer graphics course a few years ago i asked the teachers what the technical specs were and they were about half that of my home pc, yet it could load photoshop and maya in about 1/3 of the time...

 

but i just really don't like the OS, nor the keyboards... and i love upgrading my computer .-. getting the parts and putting it all together is definately a highlight for me...

hey. everyone gets confused at some level. some don't know where the power button is and think the cd tray is a cup holder...

 

others will struggle removing viruses, editting the registry...

 

others will struggle modding XP or vista's coding in an attempt to make their own OS.

 

we all have our limits xD i'm generally somewhere in the middle. i do have a fair knowledge of how everything workson the system and i can often find my way around things... if i don't know what i'm doing i can usually find out and fix it myself

Beat me to it... though I haven't been watching the topic that closely. To elaborate a bit, if Windows could run NATIVELY on Mac hardware, that'd be fine. Well, except for the proprietary motherboard bullcrap.

But it's really not that hard to *crack*. And the crack's by Apple anyway...Bootcamp is a pretty easy and short time install so It basically is imo.
