What Does Easter Mean to You?

I trust everyone is enjoying their Easter break. I hope you haven't made your self sick from all the chocolate eggs. The question is, what does Easter mean to you? Is it the religious holiday and the meaning of this time of the year. Maybe its simply time off work or school. Or is it just a few days of pigging out on chocolate. I'll be honest, its the time off work to sit around and relax.... that's how I see Easter.

I don't celebrate Easter or Good Friday because I am not a Christian of sorts.

 

It's a public holiday though, but I chose to continue working to earn some cash. And I continued working yesterday. I was only free today. So to me, it doesn't feel like a long weekend. lol.

 

I understand the easter eggs are the symbol of the rebirth, but I don't understand the easter bunny bit, mind enlightening me?

It is all a symbol of fertility, the holiday was originally a pagan holiday just like Christmas and a few others. The Papacy merged the pagan traditions with Christian ideas in order to convince the pagans to join the church without having to give up their old festivals. There are virtually no actual Christian symbols in modern holidays that weren't originally pagan symbols. In the past, many non-Catholic Christians would not celebrate the 'Christian' holidays because they were pagan holidays wrapped up in a Jesus-bow.

To answer you more specifically, the bunny represents fertility because bunnies populate like... well, rabbits.

It means the traditional message of sacrifice, redemption, life etc for me normally.

But in reality, this weekend meant spending over $6000 on electronic equipment (LCD TV, BlueRay, Macbook).

Had a Wii... I say had because we appear to have suffered a lightning strike a couple of days ago. The antenna on the roof has altered position, plastic components are burnt, and a chunk of the wall directly below the antenna is missing... also bathroom light blew, phone is stuffed, and the power unit on the Ninentendo wii had a burnout into the carpet! Loud pop apparently but I wasn't home at the time.

 

Now I have to work out whether it's just the power unit, or the actual nintendo affected. Hope not, I wasn't a 67% through the Lego Star Wars Complete Saga!!!
