Sonic 296 Posted July 10, 2009 As you can no doubt see a few changes have been made to the order of the forums. These changes have been on the drawing board for awhile now. Dating as far back as January 2008 when the change from phpBB2 to IPB2 was made. Anyway, I've thought long and hard about the the new structure, what forums should be where and so on. Overall the changes aren't that major. I'll summarise them here for you.... The front page news forums is now simply called Command & Conquer 365 - News Game specific forums are now sorted by Universe. EG all games from the original C&C to the new C&C4 are inside the Tiberium Universe category. All of the maps and modding related forums have merged into these new Universe categories. What was once called the General Forums category is now called the Open Forums category. Open Discussion is now called Off-Topic Discussion. The Open Forums category has been shifted further down. I feel the focus should be the actual discussion of C&C gaming. Admin Request Sub Forum - DELETED. Downloads Redirect - DELETED. So that's about it. If you have any thoughts, ideas, suggestions or possible improvements reply to this thread. Share this post Link to post
Malevolence 6 Posted July 10, 2009 Great changes! Let's focus more on C&C4! Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted July 10, 2009 Gosh this always happens. I go on holiday for a week or so and the site changes and a new C&C is announced. I've gotta sift through a load of posts now. Headache PS. I like the new format now i have my head round it Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted July 11, 2009 I dislike scrolling to the bottom to visit the off topic sections. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted July 11, 2009 You can customise how you view the index page by hiding different categories. Click the icons and it reduces scrolling. Share this post Link to post
Gben 20 Posted July 11, 2009 I noticed that, the "+/-" option I mean. I would have kept all the mod stuff seperate, but that's just me. I understand the off-topic being put further down, but in the slow periods they are usually the active forums, and so I share Luk3us's opinion. So that's my comments, but I'm callling for the 'undo' button just yet. Share this post Link to post

I think having the map and modding forums together in one category will reduce the amount of map and modding topics that get always seem to get posted in the the game specific forum all the time. Malevolence 6 Posted July 11, 2009 I think the activity of Off topic areas will decline after all the crazy C&C4 stuff going on. So I guess the off topic section will be hyperactive yet again once the game is out and stuff by next year. Share this post Link to post
Gben 20 Posted July 13, 2009 I'm wondering, while we're on the topic of moving threads, whether it's possible in the header to point out when the post has been moved too, or include the hyperlink. ie. Moved: Please be the one! I'm not really asking for manual information, but if it was possible to see where the post/thread has been moved... that be useful sometimes. Your re-organisation makes sense from your admin point of view, but because I don't mod/make maps, it's easier for me to group them all together in *my* organisational chart. Sonic 296 Posted July 13, 2009 So the general feeling is you guys would prefer the Open Forums category back near the top? Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted July 13, 2009 Yeah. But that being said, I think I'm used to scrolling down now. Lets me see if there are any new active topics on the way down too. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted July 13, 2009 So the general feeling is you guys would prefer the Open Forums category back near the top? I don't care either way, I only use the 'View New Posts' option, which bypasses the need to scroll. On the infrequent occasion that I want to reread a post, I don't mind giving my mouse wheel an extra roll or two. Share this post Link to post
Malevolence 6 Posted July 13, 2009 So the general feeling is you guys would prefer the Open Forums category back near the top? Actually I would prefer this order even though my suggestion will probably sounds imbalance: News Tiberium Universe Open Forums blah blah blah Anyways I pretty ok with the new layout, with the game topics above the off topic stuff, just look, the off topic's activity died down as I've foreseen, except probably the arab dude pops out of his little makeshift hole yesterday. Wildshield 0 Posted July 14, 2009 Some posts might have died down because of the new look I think. Threading around the forum took awhile to get used to. The changes were somewhat overnight and perhaps needed. Trying to fix the new look is all we should be about. Share this post Link to post
Gben 20 Posted July 14, 2009 I think off-topic belongs at the bottom, it's just been the most active forum of late, so it was kinda weird having to head to the bottom. It seems like we're all getting used to it. Another question, can you put links up the top for the various groups: tiberium universe, red alert universe, open forums etc? Share this post Link to post
BioBen 3 Posted July 14, 2009 I don't really mind, I just scroll throught the whole forum anyway when i come on. But it's a good idea and causes this: Lets me see if there are any new active topics on the way down too. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted July 14, 2009 Another question, can you put links up the top for the various groups: tiberium universe, red alert universe, open forums etc? Its possible. I'll consider it but I feel it would look really out of place. As for the order, it will remain as is for now until I can think of something better. Share this post Link to post
Gben 20 Posted July 15, 2009 Yeah changing now is not a priority... but I was thinking something in a similiar place/formating to the directory tree at the top:- > CNCNZ.com Forums > News > Site / Forum News & Discussion Just a simple text link... Share this post Link to post
Wildshield 0 Posted July 15, 2009 I'm still getting use to OFF TOPIC instead of GENERAL. Its those little things that trips you up. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted July 15, 2009 I'm still getting use to OFF TOPIC instead of GENERAL. Its those little things that trips you up. I changed it because once I created the Generals Universe category all of a sudden we had a bunch of forums with the name Generals in them. And so close to each other. Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted July 15, 2009 Just a little question here.. What happened to the "Future C&C games" forum tab? Was it removed becouse the Tiberian storyline comes to an end in C&C4? Share this post Link to post
Malevolence 6 Posted July 15, 2009 Just a little question here.. What happened to the "Future C&C games" forum tab? Was it removed becouse the Tiberian storyline comes to an end in C&C4? I hope it stays. I believe there will be a RA4 (sequel to RA3, not alt reality thing), Generals 2 and a whole new universe yet to be explored. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted July 15, 2009 I believe there will be a RA4 (sequel to RA3, not alt reality thing), Generals 2 and a whole new universe yet to be explored. That may be so, but I don't think that forum was very frequently used. I'm fine with its removal. Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted July 15, 2009 True.. but by the time C&C4 hits the streets people will start to wonder and hope for annother one (except if it sucks really hard and people agrees to put the series to rest) Share this post Link to post
