Something Else > Tiberium Something > Tiberian Something

Recommended Posts

Of 7K+ entries thus far for CC4 name the game contest, word Tiberium has been said 2,049 times, word Tiberian 1,896...interesting

9:09 AM Jul 31st from web

Just happen by chance to browse through EA Apoc's Twitter site and saw this.

3055+ chose Something Else.

2049+ chose Tiberium Something, or something Tiberium.

1896+ chose Tiberian Something, or something Tiberian.

What say you?

"Something Tiberian" doesn't even make sense considering Tiberian is the adjective form of the word.

I'd go for Tiberian Something or possibly Something Else if the else was any good.

I was pretty shocked and surprised the % of the entries, excluding those without the tiberium and tiberian elements. Despite a number of C&C fans wanting Tiberian something and all the whining about the talks on "Tiberium something" is fail etc, it seems Tiberium beats Tiberian. Strange isn't it.

Well, apparently their wanting to attract noobs to the franchise is working.

Seriously. Before EA came out with Tiberium Wars no self-respecting C&C fan would have submitted the noun version instead of the adjective.

I rather prefer an adjective more than the noun, why "Tiberium"? That's a noun. If TW would be named, I prefer a Tiberian Wars rather than Tiberium Wars.

Oh boy, you've just made my day. XD

Amen to that. cnc_sage's statement does have a logic.

I too prefer the adjective form. "Tiberian ..." sounds better, well at least to me.

Who knows, maybe what I said is true, or Apoc is filtering out the sheer number of "Tiberian Twilight" submissions  . What are the contest criteria again?

Creativity, Originality and Relativity.

The criteria contradict the logic of originality if a bunch of guys winning the contest together because of the same name. And no fan can guess the storyline of C&C4 so relativity is a guessing game.

I actually entered this competition with a really clever subtitle. It fills all 3 criteria, With expressed relativity, and strong originality. It's still only 2 words, but my knowledge of the English language allows my suggested title to speak infinite volumes about the game itself. It may not win, but hey, I believe it's pretty neat. There's no Tiberians/ums, twilights, kanes, wars, Nods, GDIs, unit/zone/character/pet dog names.

However, any average Joe who was to see this on a box, would probably have to run to their nearest dictionary after having a full 60 second "WTF" moment. I was going to go a step further and use Latin, but that's a tad excessive! :P

EDIT: An interesting irony actually, after typing this post. I thought I'd see what the words of my title were in Latin. Turns out they're both Latin in origin anyway, so no change was needed! lol

whats the point of having a very smart but not "catchy" and salable subtitle in latin? :o

its like saying

Command & conquer 4

ἢ τὰν ἢ ἐπὶ τᾶς

those wondering its Ancient Greek (my Language) and you probably heard in in the 300, in "free" translation means "Return with your shield, or on it"

you know the Spartan phrase when their soldiers was send to battle.

ok its a smart subtitle but none (beside Greeks) would understand it! so what the point?

i am really wondering what you submit!?? the contest will close at 8th. and the results until 20 August i think right? we will have to see :)

once again good luck to all. ;)

It's not in 'Latin' exactly, it's English words that came from Latin. As he said:

A lot of English came from Latin.

Etymology happens to be a hobby of mine and I am fairly familiar with a lot of Latin as well, so I'm somewhat interested to know what this 'really clever subtitle' is.
