Anyones interested?

Recommended Posts

Guest Stevie_K

After my exams which should end in about 2 months, I'm planning to start a full conversion mod for Tiberian Sun Firestorm.

Now I have to admit that I have little experience with TS modding, and I know that there's some old wizards wandering around these deep corners of the internet, that could be of tremendous help.

So I wanted to hear if anyone is interested? or might be interested when I get closer to developing.

I will be writing the story and drawing most of the concept art as well as some SHP's, when if I've got the hang of it that is.

If you do another GDI vs Nod project, I will hate you forever.

The story about Nod and GDI in TD and TS is fine as it is imo. The goal with the mod is not to attempt to make it better or make continuation.

However, there will be minor entries about GDI and Nod in the story, but not in-game.

What is your basic idea?

I'm very conservative when it comes to C&C gameplay. The mod will not contain revolutionary changes within those boundaries.

It's going to be a classic faction versus faction mod.

It will rely a lot more on how effectively bases are build and using the right strategies when attacking them. There is some little change to the gameplay however. Constructing outposts around the map at strategic points (not at nodes or in special areas, but at points in the map you judge as important) will greatly aid in controlling the map, which is vital. This will increase the amount of micromanaging and will also result in multiple battlefronts so that no-one is invulnerable, and everyone has their weak points. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's easy to spot those weak points. I believe this will add more thinking to the game, and will make the game rely more on your skills at building and commanding rather than speed and spamming.

So theres a bit about how it's going to work. Regarding the story, I can only say that the two factions will be two major companies with two very different ideologies and goals. They are not directly involved in the conflict between GDI and Nod, but is affected by the events taking place in the timeline. To clearify; The timeline of the story is parallel to that of Tiberian Sun and Firestorm.

I have put a lot of thinking into keeping the "feel" from TS as well as improving the values of C&C that we love, rather than replacing them.

You think while playing? :eek::confused:

Oh! And btw. What about an saboteur from Dune 2000? (goes in a building and blows it up)

Btw waddaya thinks about an Flying MCV? (SCRIN FTW!!!)

While I think you have a good imagination, I still think flying buildings is a bad idea. Both physically and strategically it seems illogical to me. It will completely bend the balance of the game, and will create a lot unnecessary problems.

If you can come up with some very good and rational explanations on how this could actually work, without any problems and with provided lore on why this would be taken into use, you are more than welcome to send a PM or an e-mail with the full description :)

I actually think something useful could be extracted from that idea.

I should consider enslaving you for idea generating abusiveness :intent:

Are you thinking capturable locations on maps that give strategic advantages such as increased attack etc. (Not sure if possible) to units within a large (1/8 - 1/6 of the map) radius?

No, not at all. I will try my best to encourage the players to expand multiple bases and outpost. I think this would benefit in ways such as; longer matches, multiple battlefronts on the maps and a chance for the players to use their skills in building smart and pretty bases, and also having useful outposts.

None of this will require any point system or advantage buildings. It's simply a matter of constructing a system that automatically encourages the player do this by himself/herself. An example could be that one giant stuffed base has to be harder to manage than 3 small and effective ones.

The basic idea is to realize the term "commander", and actually make the player feel like one. Having many things around the map that needs attention will ensure that the player that wins, is the player with the best bases, the best overview and also the player having the most control: The best commander.

I'll explain it one more time: I made this thread in the hope of finding someone who would be interested in joining the team. I didn't make it for you to come up with random ideas

You are annoying, but too cute to hate ^_^

I dare say you won't find many people on this forum.

The only help I could contribute is music composition/sound design.

I am a Yuri's Revenge modder, so I doubt I would be very useful if you already know what you are doing to some degree. Since you are doing the SHPs yourself, you wouldn't need my help there either. About the only thing I could offer you is voxels. So I am not going to ask to join your team (I am not really a team player anyway, I do all my own modding myself), nevertheless, if you need a new tank or something and I have a bit of free time, I might be able to make it for you.

I would help, but I only know how to work with the basic rules.ini file (also with TibEd) so I probably wouldn't be very helpful....at all; but it will be interesting to see where this goes. *goes back into lurking form*

Oh and to contribute into the random and spontaneous (yeah kinda redundant tharz) ideas:

An artillery that fires a multi-missile-like projectile (only the type of projectile is the same as the Cyborg Commando's) that is insanely effective against tanks, but is totally harmless against infantry. Or just makes the units in the area cloaked, like an experimental thingy. :P

Very kind of you.

Iv'e changed my mind and decided program an entire game from scratch instead.

Main reason is, that I have experience with programming games and I have the opportunity to turn it into real income and evolve my skills as a game developer, opposed to wasting huge amounts of time making a mod for a long gone dead game that I seem to be about the only one interested in.
