PurpleGaga27 40 Posted August 2, 2010 (edited) Looks like there are some C&C users for crying out loud at Blizzard stealing some C&C material: http://forums.commandandconquer.com/jforum...list/43134.page Do you agree or disagree with this? There's one thing that EALA failed but Blizzard did it just like ex-Westwood did in C&C3 (the Westwood version): the click and drag box with a color shading background inside (just like most OS have). No RTS game other than SCII has this.... and also weird when I watched some SCII replays in YouTube, the color of that click and drag box is the same as C&C3/KW!! I still have yet to find a way for that click and drag box in C&C3 to get a shading background inside the box. As of now, Company of Heroes is still the most unique RTS game in the field. Why? The game engine and the point of view positions. Edited August 2, 2010 by purplescrin Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted August 2, 2010 And no one in that thread had any substance. Just like I thought. Fanboys stupidly bashing another game for being good. Lovely. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted August 3, 2010 SC2's campaign is easily the best SP experience I have ever experienced in ANY RTS game BAR NONE!It ****s all over C&C and is so much more indepth and polished than anything EA could ever produce. As far as game play, its solid. That's it, its not trying to be fancy, its not trying to be innovative its simply doing what it does and doing it very, very well. Far to many RTS games try and use fancy gimmicks (COUGH C&C4 DISASTER) and end up being half assed. Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted August 3, 2010 Hehe. This is just stupid. The things the first guy mentions with the installation, transforming units and the unit previews are things anyone could easily have come up with under the development of SCII. It doesn't require a genius to get such ideas, and as long as EA does not have direct patent on these things, other development teams are going to realize these ideas as well, regardless if it's seen before. That's how this industry is, and it's seen with 90% of all releases. Starcraft II is epic, leave it alone. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted August 3, 2010 The official C&C forums.... I'll give that link a miss thanks. Because that forum is full of cry babies and over reacting fan boys. They can make whatever claims they want, anything they say is total bull****. Share this post Link to post
recover 2 Posted August 3, 2010 Oh noes, SC2 owes everything to C&C. I find this topic very ridiculous. Also, Sonic, beware of tribalism. Share this post Link to post
Chronojam 3 Posted August 4, 2010 Don't act like this is new, or should not be a surprise. Blizzard (and Valve, but that's for another topic) is very good at producing derivative works. They're not exactly the folks who invented the RTS genre here, and "____Craft = C&C Ripoff?" has been a catchphrase for over a decade. I mean, we even got an FPS-flavored taste of "Ghost = Renegade?" back when both were going to be awesome PS2 games years ago! I believe I heard that an RA3 dev went to the SC2 team, and the Viking is remarkably similar to the Mecha Tengu You'd have to be an abject retard to think there is not definite cross-pollination, to think that each game exists in a vaccuum and this is pure convergent evolution, or to think people are stupid for seeing similarities. But Starcraft 2, to me, is primarily a Starcraft ripoff as far as its flaws go... then again, that's neither here nor there. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted August 4, 2010 Oh noes, SC2 owes everything to C&C. I find this topic very ridiculous. Arguably, if Westwood never redefined (or is that created) the RTS genre with C&C in 1995 they would be no Starcaft. That's something I've always believed anyway. And it wouldn't surprise me if their we some C&C like coincidences in Starcraft II. Isn't the lead designer or whatever, Dustin Browder? He left EA after Generals/Zero to work at Blizzard. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Also, Sonic, beware of tribalism. Why should I beware of that? Kind of missing your point there Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted August 4, 2010 ahem. Blizzard's RTS days predate C&C by a good year and a half. Blizzard was well established in their ways already. Share this post Link to post

Inferno 22 Posted August 4, 2010 ahem. Blizzard's RTS days predate C&C by a good year and a half. Blizzard was well established in their ways already. Westwood's Dune II started it all. But let's not go there, Starcraft II is just awesome. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted August 4, 2010 yeah... Blizzard might predate C&C, but it doesn't predate WW RTS... so that's completely irrelevant. And who invented the RTS genre has nothing to do with this discussion. In the end, it all boils down to what they make of the RTS genre. And Blizzard certainly knows what to make of it. They don't need to rip off anything. Also, there's only a finite amount of ideas in the world. It's not surprising if some of those seem similar if you start comparing them. Hey I did say arguably Westwood's C&C brought RTS into the mainstream like Doom did for FPS games. In the end Starcraft 2 is a very good game, getting rave reviews and a massive amount sales. Sonic 296 Posted August 4, 2010 That is tribalism. Doubt it, more like stereotyping. I can't help it if the official forums are a total disorganised chaotic mess.... hence why I hardly visit them. Only ever read APOC's posts. Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted August 4, 2010 No by tribalism he means fanboys of C&C and Starcraft verbally slaughtering each other. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted August 4, 2010 When don't fanboys of different series verbally bash each other? I mean really. Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted August 4, 2010 In the end, it all boils down to what they make of the RTS genre. And Blizzard certainly knows what to make of it. They don't need to rip off anything. True that. It's impossible to make two hammers that have different structure and functions. They will to some degree be similar no matter what... Same goes with the RTS genre, and most other genres for that matter. Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 40 Posted August 4, 2010 Well it gets even more weirder than that. Someone is comparing SCII to C&C4: http://forums.commandandconquer.com/jforum...list/43015.page Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted August 4, 2010 They are way too different to be compared that way. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted August 4, 2010 There is no comparison. C&C4 is trash compared to SC2. Doesn't mean C&C4 is intrinsically bad, but it's just dead weight against SC2. Share this post Link to post
Chronojam 3 Posted August 5, 2010 C&C4 actually is bad, with very low production values (literally). Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted August 5, 2010 That's still just opinion though. There are people who actually do enjoy C&C4, if you can believe that. Even I don't think it's bad. It's just... unremarkable. Share this post Link to post
