Malevolence 6 Posted September 9, 2010 Thanks. I wen't to the party at my new friends place and we eventually moved the party to an other location, later my friends showed up and we all had a great time, amazingly. I'm glad that things sorted out fine at the end! Share this post Link to post

Nmenth 291 Posted September 9, 2010 Nobody asked him the ULTIMATE QUESTION!!! What's the meaning of life the universe and everything? Because everyone already knows the answer. Oh and how to beat someone who MASSES Emperors in C&C Gen. ZH? It has been a long time, but I seem to recall Demo Traps doing an unholy amount of damage to them. Obviously you couldn't rely on just Demo Traps, but your foe may get adequately ticked off after losing his expensive monstrosities to some cheap invisible demolitions. Of course this tactic will probably only work once, unless your opponent is a moron. Share this post Link to post

F15pilotX 4 Posted September 10, 2010 Here's a fun one for you. You have a frustrum of a pyramid with top (shorter) side length a, and bottom (longer) side length b; height is h. Express the volume of the solid using only the variables b, h, and a. Share this post Link to post
Malevolence 6 Posted September 11, 2010 Here's a fun one for you. You have a frustrum of a pyramid with top (shorter) side length a, and bottom (longer) side length b; height is h. Express the volume of the solid using only the variables b, h, and a. Is the base a square? Like this? Volume = 1/3 x Base x Ht. I'm suspecting that this is your school homework. Please don't be lazy and give it a try. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted September 11, 2010 That isn't a frustum. I think he means finding the volume using only the variables marked in red: I also suspect he is not seeking an answer to a question, but testing you. Problem is, not enough information was given, but assuming it is a square pyramid, the formula using only those variables would be Volume = (h/3) * (a2 + b2 + √a2*b2) Edit (just for fun): On my pyramid h=13 a=25 b=37 So Volume=12649 Share this post Link to post
Malevolence 6 Posted September 11, 2010 If that's the case, no solution due to to insufficient information. Share this post Link to post

This is the answer he's looking for: Problem is, not enough information was given, but assuming it is a square pyramid, the formula using only those variables would be Volume = (h/3) * (a2 + b2 + √a2*b2) Edited September 11, 2010 by Inferno Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted September 11, 2010 I've been out of the loop of computer hardware since I'm in college, have limited income, and haven't really looked at upgrading any of my components. I usually did read about hardware, etc and keep up to date but I just lost time to do that. Now I have no idea what is current, what's coming, etc. My friend came to me because I used to be current and he wants to build a new computer but doesn't know what's currently the best, etc etc etc. He also doesn't want to do what he did last time (he bought a AMD socket 939 mobo and then Intel released their C2D shortly after IIRC and it kicked AMD's ass and he felt stupid for buying 939 when he could have waited like a month). So what's current the top? Still Intel's i7 stuff? And is there any new system coming out soon that will outperform it (in other words, should he wait to buy some new computer parts)? I'm curious myself as when I upgraded my computer a while back, C2D was the new thing and that's what I got (and I don't think the iWhatever stuff was out). Share this post Link to post

This is the answer he's looking for: Problem is, not enough information was given, but assuming it is a square pyramid, the formula using only those variables would be Volume = (h/3) * (a2 + b2 + √a2*b2) Perhaps what he was looking for, but he did present insufficient information. A pyramid doesn't have to be a square. If it was an oblong rectangle, that formula would be wrong and you would need more than "a" "b" and "h" to solve, like so: Then it would be Volume = (h/3) * ((a*c) + (b*d) + √(a*c)*(b*d)) Share this post Link to post

I guess for mainstream users and gamers, a Core i5 is ideal enough. Intel is releasing a 2nd generation of Core i3, i5 & i7. Sandy Bridge architecture, LGA 1155. It'll be out by the end of the year. So if you are not in a rush, you can wait for this. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted September 12, 2010 Is it going to yield significantly faster speeds? Share this post Link to post
Malevolence 6 Posted September 12, 2010 Is it going to yield significantly faster speeds? All I know that Intel claims that this new and upcoming processors are supposedly twice the performance than the ones we have in market. Speed wise, I'm not certain at this time. But if you are upgrading to this, expect to spend money to change motherboards + processor due to a different architecture design. (as oppose to its rival AMD) I posted a link on my CPU thread about the Sandy Bridge preview. You may wanna check it out if you are interested in the details. Once again, technology changes pretty fast. It all boils down to whether you need it now or you can wait. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted September 12, 2010 Will this new architecture mean faster RAM and like a new PCI-e slot or just a new cpu/socket combo? I was reading it a little, donno if the gains are enough to tell my friend he should wait when he's wanting to play some modern games. edit: And is quad-core still considered not really worth it for games? So far from what I know, its a new cpu/socket thing. RAM will still be DDR3, and there aren't any new variants or spinoffs of PCI-e slots. For gaming, focus more on graphics card(s) than on a high end processor. And to the question of multiple cores for gaming... it all depends on what type of games you are talking about. Some games do utilize additional cores, but for many decent average games a two core processor is good enough. It was my school homework, but I had already gotten it right by the time I asked you. I knew it. Share this post Link to post
dbjs2009 25 Posted September 13, 2010 Once again, technology changes pretty fast. It all boils down to whether you need it now or you can wait. 100% right .. I have a question: If I wanted to buy a PC one day which one do you prefer me to buy Malev, desktop or laptop? (I'm not planing to buy anything now but later... Maybe) Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted September 13, 2010 Desktop if you want to game. If you need mobility, laptop. And thanks Malevolence. Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted September 14, 2010 Then shame on you... Let me rephrase: I had already corrected completed the problem before I *posted* it. Do you know of any sites that might buy back computers at a decent price to refurbish them? Or is Craigslist pretty much going to be the best way if I'm trying to sell, say, my 18.4" laptop? PurpleGaga27 40 Posted September 15, 2010 Do you think the new Intel chip (the Sandy Bridge) which will have an integrated Intel graphic chip might be a future Nvidia killer? Share this post Link to post
