Nothing can compete with Steam.

That remains to be seen, Wolf. :)

Besides EA has a rather large catalogue of games to throw up. Plus its going to be popular simply because the only way to download their latest MMORPG, Old Republic is going to be through this new system. Its a good thing for EA as they're make more profits through direct sales, which hopefully means they're spend more money on developing games...

Steam needs a competitor. Currently it's chocking the whole industry.

More like everything. Steam has a lot to improve on, where speed should be the most important point of improvement.

I suppose if you're running Steam on an aging dinosaur it would be slow, but it runs just fine for me.

Does this mean EA might finally adapt its game launch style to not require you to be online all the time, too?

If not, screw that, steam ftw.

Hmm, I've tested it now and it seems pretty quick. But I've always known it to be slow and unresponsive.

Competition is needed, but EA is coming in way late in the game. And unlike some monopolies, Steam has been pretty pioneering (but added competition might help it along faster).

The main reason Steam has been pioneering is to fend off possible new competitors, like EA. And so far, it's worked pretty well.

Preemptively.

It works better if you defeat them before they even arrive on the scene.

I found it both by searching for "the first decade" and by browsing Strategy games.

I can't. Seems the idiots have made it available only to selected countries.

Only shows the frontpage. No TFD to be found from my country as well.

I read it as: "Hey let's pioneer in order to fend them off". Which makes little sense when saying it that way.

The First Decade on Origin

Unless I'm missing anything, that is purely EA games. Not really a competitor yet, I'd say, but I suppose time will tell.

Origin = EA Store. Nothing has changed really. Seems more like a re-branding than a whole new service..... that I will never used I might add.

And just like it was under the EA Store naming, what shows up on Origin is depending on your part of the world.
