Firefox 5's new features include support for CSS animations, do-not-track on Android, and faster canvas graphics. Perhaps our favorite Firefox 5 feature: You won't have to jump around so much with your mouse next time you start closing tabs. Firefox has adopted Chrome-like tab closing, in which tabs stay the same size while you're closing them.

The new version of Firefox comes on the heels of the wildly successful release of Firefox 4, which had more than 200 million downloads on Windows, Mac and Linux and millions of downloads in the Android Market.

 

Mozilla’s shift to a rapid release development cycle delivers cutting edge Firefox features, performance enhancements, security updates and stability improvements to users faster.

 

The latest version of Firefox includes more than 1,000 improvements and performance enhancements that make it easier to discover and use all of the innovative features in Firefox. This release adds support for more modern Web technologies that make it easier for developers to build amazing Firefox Add-ons, Web applications and websites.

 

Firefox for Android includes the Do Not Track privacy feature in this release, making Firefox the first browser to support Do Not Track on multiple platforms. Mozilla created Do Not Track to give users more control over the way their browsing behavior is tracked and used on the Web. The feature, which lets users tell websites that they wish to opt-out of online behavioral tracking, is now easier to find in Firefox Preferences.

 

Firefox offers users complete control over the look and functionality of their Web browser with a gallery of hundreds of thousands of add-ons. About 85% of Firefox 4 users have an add-on installed to customize the look, features and functionality of their Firefox.

 

Mozilla has a rich set of resources that make it easier for Web developers to build compelling Firefox Add-ons using HTML, JavaScript and CSS. The new Firefox Add-on SDK for Windows, Mac and Linux enables local development of add-ons, while the Firefox Add-on Builder Beta provides a hosted Web-based build environment. Its almost the same as Firefox 4 in terms of looks, but I felt that it seemed faster. What do you guys think?

Mine are. (and they're basically Flash, Java etc.)

 

I haven't noticed any difference whatsoever, except that the toolbar (File, Edit, View...) takes a bit less space than before.

Meh.... I'll just wait for Firefox 7 at the end of the year. Firefox 5 for now feels and looks like Firefox 4.5.

 

I will still stick with Firefox 3.0 and 4.01 for now.

Updated. Appears to be the same to me. Only have 2 add-ons installed. A proper English dictionary, and the Status Bar 4 Eva one, they both work fine in Firefox 5.

Still sticking to Firefox as I'm still not used to other promising browsers such as Chrome or Opera. Of course, I do have some add-ons to enhance my usage. For example, Adblock Plus add-on is a must-have, eliminates all the unnecessary ads and stuff. Greasemonkey is also useful as well. Just to name a few.

I got an update through my repos yesterday. Looks no different at all. All plug-ins work as expected etc etc. Primarily more of an under the hood thing really, other than the anti-track feature and whatever they've put in it of late.

 

I still prefer Chrome though, it's just good that I can type half a web address and it'll predict and go to the site before I even get close to typing in ".com". Amongst other things of course.

i still havent bothered to install it as i just dont care as much as i did. it is ready to install but i just dont care we only just had an update.

 

at least it isn't IE

 

chrome i use every so often when i accidentally click the wrong browser. but hay i am not to fussed by ether. they work just the way i want it. but i prefer the Fox first.
