What are the chances if the US........

Recommended Posts

......will have a 51st state?

Here are the articles that had critics puzzled:

http://news.yahoo.com/51st-state-small-ste...-233234624.html

and

http://slatest.slate.com/posts/2011/07/13/...ifornia_se.html

However there is a section in the US Constitution that the US cannot have another state under any circumstances.

I don't know much about American politics, aside from its toxic and doesn't work (Like most places.), but I doubt a bunch of self important republicans are going to get their own state to play with.

You're not big on reading comprehension, are you?

As I understand it, California has been wanting to split into two separate states for ages now, and it seems to make sense because the two parts of the state are so very different from each other.

If politicians really wanna do something, they don't really ask the public. Not in Europe, anyways, I'm not entirely sure how things go over there.

They do that in the European Union members as well?

Considering the Netherlands is part of the EU, I would imagine that they would. But in response to Inferno, it's the same here for a lot of things. There are so many bills and resolutions that get sent through the House of Representatives and the Halls of Congress that we, the mother****ing people, never hear a word about until they're passed and ****ing us right up the ass. Like the goddamn PATRIOT Act; that **** stripped us who knows how many rights and we never heard a damn word until the news outlets were stating it passed. It's ****ing bull****. Every once and a while, a local proposition is mentioned on a ballot around voting time, but that's really it and those things are usually small potatoes.

I never voted for the Euro, which seems like a pretty big deal. And I'm not even talking about the massive amounts of smaller bills and laws that pass without the majority of the people's conscent. I am aware of the fact that it's a parlemantary democracy and all, but a few more referenda couldn't hurt, in my humble opinion.

Since you mentioned it, what exactly is wrong with the Euro? The US developed a unified currency and we've been better off since then because of it. Wouldn't the Euro prevent your currencies from becoming overinflated and thus valueless, or am I just missing the point?

I am not at all against the Euro. I am, however, against the fact that I never voted for it.

In Southern California they might not vote against it, but I still don't see it as likely happening. It really wouldn't be that big of a deal if it did happen I would think. People would just have to learn one more state name and put one more star to make our flag look really awkward.

The U.S. is a unified nation.. the E.U. isn't. Pretty big difference. From an outside perspective and me reading up on the Euro (overall the course of like years, not like I just went and read up some wikis and thought I know it all :P) and all the economic woes that have been plaguing Spain, Ireland, Greece, Portugal, etc, the Euro really is looking more and more worse. Though I'm really not an expert and haven't read enough to form a really good thought on it.

My thoughts on it involve:

Weak economies that require bailouts could drag the wealthier nations down (France, Germany, etc) but could also help their exporting power. But it would devalue the currency a little. Kind of a double edged sword. And if Germany and the wealthier economies in the E.U. continue to take the business, I don't much business will go to the poorer nations that need trade the most.

Six rows, alternating nine and eight.

Meh, looks like a flag to me.

Would eight rows of six and seven for 52 suit you better? Or perhaps you'd like seven rows of eight and seven for 53.

I would prefer our flag all over the globe myself. >: )

I honestly think 50 stars is the sweet spot for the flag. Maybe I just don't like change :(
