So is Chrome the new flavour of the month?

Chrome Overtakes Firefox Globally for First Time
  • Free web analytics company reports that Internet Explorer still leads despite falling market share

Boston, USA; Dublin, Ireland; Thursday, 1st December, 2011: Google's browser Chrome overtook Firefox for the first time globally on a monthly basis in November, according to StatCounter, the free website analytics company. The firm's research arm StatCounter Global Stats reports that Chrome took 25.69% of the worldwide market (up from 4.66% in November 2009) compared to Firefox's 25.23%. Microsoft's Internet Explorer still maintains a strong lead globally with 40.63%.

"We can look forward to a fascinating battle between Microsoft and Google as the pace of growth of Chrome suggests that it will become a real rival to Internet Explorer globally," commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter. "Our stats measure actual browser usage, not downloads, so while Chrome has been highly effective in ensuring downloads our stats show that people are actually using it to access the web also."

In the US Internet Explorer continues to perform strongly and is maintaining market share at 50.66%, up slightly from 50.24% year on year. Firefox retains second place on 20.09%, down from 26.75%. Chrome is up to 17.3% from 10.89%. Safari is on 10.76% from 10.71%.

In the UK, Internet Explorer also leads the market with 42.82%. Chrome is on 24.82%, having overtaken Firefox (20.56%) in July. (For other individual country or regional analysis see StatCounter Global Stats).

StatCounter Global Stats are based on aggregate data collected on a sample exceeding 15 billion page views per month (4 billion from the US) from the StatCounter network of more than three million websites.

As well as free web research, StatCounter (http://statcounter.com/) provides free website traffic analysis. This allows website owners, developers and bloggers to capture valuable intelligence on their site in real time including number of visitors, visitors by country/region, search terms, popular pages, download stats, exit links and other data.

In September StatCounter announced its new website with added features.

Let's face it, Firefox was awesome, but as time went by it start to get bloated and stuff. Meanwhile, Google Chrome seems to performs faster and lighter. Haven't really got familiarize with Google Chrome but the last time I tried, loading times felt better than FireFox imo.

Probably going to migrate to Google Chrome before 2012, which is soon!

I finally get to use Chrome when running Zynga's CityVille game resulting in very minimal javascript and flash bugs. The one on Firefox could not load everything and I had to refresh thrice. But for other surfing purposes, I still use Firefox.

Statistics won't make me switch to Chrome.

Why?

Because. I got used to it and I don't see anything wrong with it to begin with.

Chrome is still a pile of bull**** as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't have anything Firefox doesn't have and I have no reason at all to use it over Firefox. Then again, I have other reasons for ditching Chrome since I used to use it as my Flash browser.

Eh, I'm not liking the whole Google + bull**** that google are trying to ram down our throats, so I'm not defiantly not going to switch to chrome.

I'll switch to Chrome when the Add-on selection is about the same as FF's.

Firefox is turning something like Microsoft is doing with MSN... Filling it with some stuffs that's useless, at least for me. :P

Firefox on Windows is pretty more slow than the Linux build, i don't know why. I still keep it because there are a bunch of those bank stuff that do not work in Chrome, but it do only in IE and FF. Since there's no IE for linux... :P

Chrome by the other hand still light and fast.

Aside from launching Firefox the first time, it's never really slow for me unless I have it playing some Flash in HD. Short of that, keeps good speed but then again, an SSD helps a great deal.

... hmm? Google tried to force you to use Google +?? Did it threaten you with the ability to restrict your searches to merely safe content?? :P

I've been using Chrome far more lately. Firefox is good, I just like Chrome's interface better now.

I can make Firefox nearly replicate Chrome's UI without an addon. I don't get the appeal to Chrome's UI anyway. I want my toolbars thanks. That's why I have a gigantic ****ing monitor.
