Cyborg_Commando 0 Posted September 3, 2004 Tried adaware? YEP, encountered a serious bunch of garbage but there are 2 who keep coming back even when I've deleted them, maybe it has something to do with this?? HARD DRIVE: 25,6 GB free of 38,2 Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted September 3, 2004 Depends what bud you got is it Fast IDE? (7200rpm) Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted September 3, 2004 Speed of hard drive isn't important really when it comes to booting up, it's really how full it it and yours sounds ok. I assume you've got an up-to-date visus scanner and have fun a thourough virus scan? Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted September 4, 2004 How old is your Windows installation? Over time Windows can collect junk, programs you have uninstalled leave crap all through the registry. This can slow down boot times and your system overall. If your Windows installation is more than 12 months old you might want to bite the bullet and consider backing up your files and formatting. Start with a fresh Windows setup. I've just rebuilt my system and reinstalled Windows, when WinXP loads its really quick. I only see the little green status bar on the boot up XP screen scroll by 2 or 3 times. Share this post Link to post

Saracen 16 Posted September 4, 2004 He's colourblind methinks.. When I had XP home it was green, then I upgraded cos I lost my XP Home edition boot disk that came with the PC, so aquired XP pro from a friend (he went back to ME cos he hated XP :? ) and now mine's blue Share this post Link to post

Sonic 296 Posted September 7, 2004 Run some scans with Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3, download it from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ Make sure you update these problems with the latest updates to. You can do this from within the programs. I use both Ad-aware and Spybot together. I do a scan with Spybot first then I let Ad-aware have a run through the system. Try eliminating programs that start up when Windows loads. Leave the important ones, dump the stuff never use. Share this post Link to post
Hans5849 0 Posted September 7, 2004 what are your PC stats if you dont know them download this and coppy-paste your motherboard info, CPU info, and Ram info. you know that Adaware has a new version called SE that finds more. and 1.3 of spy bot is awesome. Defragment take 2 asprin in the morning and IM me Edit: Also do you have windows XP service Pack 2 installed. And if you do decide to format slipstream service Pack 2 into it, i know it sounds hard and advanced, but its worth it and you will be smarer in the end Slipstream Guide Share this post Link to post

chickendippers 1 Posted September 8, 2004 The min. processor for XP is about 700Mhz isn't it? Share this post Link to post
Cyborg_Commando 0 Posted September 8, 2004 so you guys think it has to do with my CPU and RAM Share this post Link to post
Hans5849 0 Posted September 9, 2004 well not just your CPU and RAM, also your motherboard is holding you back majorly, it appears your motherboard only supports ATA-66, which is pretty slow, and my computers FSB is faster than your CPU, so i suggest upgrading to a 2.4-2.8GHz range processor and your PC is fast enough to handle XP, the requirements stare a min of 300 mhz Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted September 9, 2004 Like hell XP runs on a 300Mhz computer. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted September 9, 2004 One of the cheapest system upgrades (and one I thought about, before changing my mind) is an AMD Athlon XP 2500+/Abit NF7 Mobo/512 DDR400 Ram. These parts are rather cheap these days. Its by no means the lastest and greatest (far from it) but you will get performance for your hard earned dollars. Plus the AMD Athlon XP 2500+ is good if you interested in overclocking. Share this post Link to post
