C&C - Free To Play Wins 1st E3 Award - New GLA Artwork

Recommended Posts

Another let down, this guy looks even less like a general than that girl. Generals need to look militaristic and intimidating (especially intimidating). I think whoever is designing these generals is using their family members as models and adding in a piece of faction-related clothing.

Its just artwork. Doesn't really change how the game plays. The EU and APA Generals have the militaristic look, while the GLA Generals have more specific looks that fit rather well.

The artwork is a let down as far as the artwork is concerned. The rest of the game has its own issues that are another topic.

Also, Junkyard is a pretty tame nickname too. I'm going to call him Uncle Chopshop.

I agree with Nmenth on this one. I think we can also expect another hot/sexy/cute/girly female general for either the EU or APA side to "better acomodate" hormone-driven younger players, heh...

On a much larger side note; could we please just stop calling the whole thing "C&C Free to Play" and drop the monetary/payment 3-word-indicators from the game's name?

The more I see that F2P mark alongside what used to be a great gaming title, the more sick I feel after reading EVERY news post related to the new C&C game.

It's like we're advertising on EA's behalf. If we were to use another name for the reboot such as "C&C 2013" (since someone was smart enough not to give it a full name) or anything else for that matter which didn't indicate marketing values among other things, it would by my standards brighten the whole place up and return at least some dignity to a once truly great and fun series. The F2P standing out and screaming from the main title is an insult to the Command & Conquer legacy. Very cheap.

Clearly Nmenth is never going to get past the exterior when sizing up his opponents. Lame. :)

So I thought I would let google teach me a general looks like. Apparently a fruit salad on your chest and a big flag behind your promo shot doesn't hurt!

What I wasn't expecting is that a fictional C&C general made the top 60!

You still haven't gotten it, I do not determine my enemy by appearance. If they need to be shot, I will shoot them equally whether they look like the Grim Reaper himself or some average guy.

Oh the other hand, I wouldn't want to join a bunch of crazy people who would place a girl who's almost certainly younger than I am, prioritizes painting her nails, and probably has no idea what she is even fighting for in among their top ranks.

If you ever wonder why the GLA will inevitably lose the war, it's probably because they are led by the likes of Uncle Chopshop and Rebel Barbie.

'Salvage' general? Come on. That just sounds plain stupid if you ask me :D

The visual style is one of the key elements of a game. It's what creates the ambiance and differs the game from others. TibDawn and RA1 have almost identical engines (at least visually, not talking about the coding differences) and they are seen by the players completely differently thanks to the visual style.

Repairing...

This mechanic general, in my perspective, is all about repairing and salvaging vehicles and hopefully healing infantry as well (if a medic is available).

I hope there isn't going to be a medic general.

I think this is a great piece of art, very well done. It fits a leader of an army that relies on 'recycling' destroyed junk from other armies to build its army. I think that the issue from some of you is that the term 'general' is just strong for someone who commands an army of salvaged vehicles with no formalism at all. Anyway, congrats to the artist from Raymond Swanland and his team.
