Dr. Thrax Returns in the New Command & Conquer

Recommended Posts

The GLA Toxin General, Dr. Thrax, will make a return in the new Command & Conquer - Free To Play. This general's card was posted on the official C&C Facebook page earlier today and it gives some information on his exclusive specialities. This is the second confirmed name of the new generals, with the first being Charles "Mercury Red" Barrowsmith, an EU general spotted by CnCSaga.com.

Another completely non-intimidating general, but not as bad as Uncle Chopshop and Rebel Barbie. I'm more confused by his Toxin Bomb, for use against vehicles? Do they not understand the concept of "toxin"? They should call it a Corrosive Bomb, Acid Bomb, or Electrolyte Bomb.

you sir are acting a bit like Doctor McKey of SGA, this is just a video game for fun, and we are not doing real science project here, so we do not have to be 100000000% accurate with everything!

they are not shooting for "realism" they should aim for "assume"!*

*as Planetary Annihilation btw. :P

A corrosive bomb isn't 100000000% accurate, nor even realistic, it's just not downright stupid. A toxic bomb for vehicles is like an EMP for infantry.

No, don't you see. EA are secretly announcing that one of the new factions are called the AUTOBOTS...

Thrax was my favorite antagonist during the US campaign in the original Generals, VERY good to see him again.

As for the toxin debate - chemical rounds for tanks and such will probably be used to add additional damage to infantry and occupied buildings and what-not while maintaining anti-vehicle properties. Perhaps with some short comings, as he WAS an anti-infatry general after all. I'm just glad he's back. He may not be intibidating, but the fun about Thrax was all about his crazy toxin jokes and semi-madman attitude in my opinion.

If a game tries to be realistic, it should of course try to be as accurate as possible, and no, toxins against vehicles does not make a lot of sense. Immersion is ruined when we are met with unrealistic behavior in games that tries to be realistic (ie. Arma 2).

This C&C title however, does not aim to be realistic. It is, as you say, a video game for fun, and not a war simulator. There are other franchises out there that aims for realism. I would not expect that of a C&C title.
