J-Fire_Man 0 Posted March 17, 2005 If you have an important file to protect and you don't want other people to know about this file, there is an easy and simple but powerful way to encrypt files. All you need is a WinRar installed in your comp When you have installed WinRar. Simply click or drag all the important file you want to encrypt. The right click and choose Add to archive. Then input the name of the encrypted file in the Archive name text box. Be sure to use .dat extension rather than .rar extension to disguise the archive and use kinda windows based file name (WinDat.dat fo instance). Then go to Advanced tab and click on Set password. Input the password and check the "Encrypt file names" checkbox. For the password, be sure to use more than 5 letters or numbers, because hacker can easily decrypt password with less than 5 letters or numbers. Use more than 10 for better password protection. When you have finished setting up the archive, click ok and hopla, you have encrypted your important files. But, it's not finished yet. For even better protection, move the archive to a folder where people won't notice, like the folders in Windows system folder. When you have decided where to put the archive, activate the hidden tribute. This way is very evective to protect your important files. A fast, easy, and reliable way to encrypt your important files. I'm not suggesting this to hide your porn files from your mom :lol: Hackers will even confused to find your important files except if they have some powerfull tools or skills. As long as you put the file in an unseen folder and use password with more than 5 letters or numbers, it will be hard for the hacker to find the data and encrypt it. A rar file with password combined of 10 letters or numbers will took the hacker hours to decrypt it, and that if the hacker can find the disguised file. But, this trick might be useless for top hackes. However, if the hacker know you well, it might be easier for him/her to find and decrypt the archive. Share this post Link to post

But, if I'm not wrong the password function is locked in the shareware version, so the hacker will easily decrypt the archive when he/she have found the file. Share this post Link to post

J-Fire_Man 0 Posted March 18, 2005 Brute force is stupid. It's like smashing all of the house thinggies just to find your credit card. It's possible in hours, but not using the brute force. Trying the combination of strings one by one is stupid. But cracking password using Brute Force in less than a day is possible if the hacker have a high-end comp and use multiple brute attacks. To make your archive even harder to be dcrypted, try to use "hiding a tree in a jungle" technique. What I mean is create fake encrypted archives around the real archive. And then make them to be a single arhice using Winrar and the previous Winrar encryption technique that I have made in my previous post. This way, your data is much safer. Yes I know but.......it's not a good way to protect your data, it's rather useless I think. When the hunter have analyzed his/her prey, it will be hard to escape from the hunter. Unless you have that USB drive or floppy. It's useless for someone who is often dealing with the internet and the important datas that he/she have is connected to something in the net. Let's use our imganition for awhile. Think of you as a bear who loves to play outside and the one who is hunting your files is the hunter. When you (the bear) have noticed the presence of the hunter, you will quickly hide inside a safe place (in this case it's like what luk3us suggested, hiding your important datas somewhere else than in the comp). However, the hunter will ofcourse won't just stand like an idiot infront of your (the bear) safe place. Most hutners will set up a trap to trap the bear when he/she came out from his/her hideout. When the bear thoughts that it's safe to get out of the safe place (in this case you put back your important datas in the comp to be used in the net), the trap will be triggered as soon as you pass the trap. And then you (the bear) won't have much choise, there will be only 3 options: - Run like hell - Let yourself be killed (giving your important datas to the hunter to prevent damage to the system) - Or...fight back the hunter The hunter won't always win against his/her prey. BranMoviC 0 Posted March 23, 2005 Guys, First of all, a hacker is NOT what you think.... -> A hacker is someone who get PAID on a company, to find leaks in the security, that's a legal job! --------------------------------------------------- The Guys you're all talking about are known as "Crackers", they do the illegal work, like to crack into someone's machine to damage something or just for fun. --------------------------------------------------- I've cracked a lot of computers in my life and with the most i only left a message behind that i was there... and after a few days, they enhanced their security. There where a few computers where i couldn't get in any more! And about the WinRAR encryption, that's a stupid one, i'll get it decrypted within 2 minutes. I dont know what version you all use, but you can set a password with the not paid (40 days trial) version. About splitting the archive in small pieces and put one piece on an USB drive (or whatever), we crackers use dummy files we can place instead of the original version. That's no problem. And we have better ways to get past a password, you all are right, a password can be cracked with the bruteforce method (or anything like that), but that's the most stupid way to do it (we won't). Like the Windows XP password, we can do 2 things: - try do crack the password, and do hours to get it done - just delete the password, and do it completely within a minute That isn't hard to choose is it ? (There are many more ways btw) And once we through your firewall, you're done, we hardly work alone so.... one get's the security down, the other go do where we came for. After we're through the firewall, you will only notice we're there if your missing your file (or something else) or if we left a message. Another fact: a cracker is always LESS than 5 minutes in you're computer. We have very good reasons not to stay longer Yea, we can set a trap, but we're not going to wait for it! Correction for chickendippers: If you realise you're being cracked - It's too late, we're gone already. We have tools to monitor what you're doing, we will notice that you've seen us if you react to it. About sub7, that's not working anymore, it had worked maybe a few times, but that kind of stuff is blocked within 5 sec if you know how. If you connect withit, it only take 5 seconds to block it.... If you're a cracker or hacker, you're also a computer security specialist, otherwise, you don't have the skills to crack or hack. You will notice if something happens on your own computer. As cracker you also know at least 2 programming languages. You write your own tools and security software. To crack AND to protect yourself. We won't stopped by the most common firewalls, there are a few we still can't get trough, but that's only a matter of time. Dynamic IP doesn't work, we have trackers so we'll know you're new IP if it changes. Within seconds. And yea, i've got to say you're right on the fact that Mac sucks, you really got to have a unix variant if you want to hack. And if you want to enjoy a computer most, use Windows. I use Windows for my daily things, because it rulez all operating systems if it comes to it's compatibility. How to secure: If you have really, i mean REALLY important files, get them on a computer without a connection to the internet. You can connect it to other computers who have internet, because hackers will not go surfing around on a lan-network. That takes far to much time. There are very few, firefalls we're having problems with. About locking files and folders, that's the second best way to get your data saved. But you need huge and VERY expensive software for it.
