Sonic 296 Posted March 22, 2005 I am now using broadband, Xtra Jetstream if you want to get technical I'm so blown away by how fast web pages download, its incredible I'm starting to wonder why I never switch to it sooner....oh now I remember, the damn cost. Share this post Link to post
apocolyp4 0 Posted March 22, 2005 Welcome to the club. Now you too can poke fun of the unfortunate who just have a 56k modem Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted March 22, 2005 The old 56k modem served me well. It has been retired now :0 Just finished downloading the 1.03 patch for Zero Hour, it only took 1 minute  Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 22, 2005 It's brilliant when you can know that a 500MB file can be done in 25 minutes... great stuff  Share this post Link to post

Doctor Destiny 41 Posted March 23, 2005 You say that now but you do it anyway... At least, I did when I got cable a couple years ago. Share this post Link to post
Thierry 0 Posted March 23, 2005 How fast is it Sonic? Mine is 170KB per sec Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted March 23, 2005 I did a bandwith speed test, I can't say how accurate it is though, the results were: Your line speed is approximately 1993.2 Kbps or 244.3 K bytes/sec * Download time: 4.094 seconds * Size of file: 1000 Kilobytes * Estimated line speed: 1993.2 (kilobits/second) * Estimated line speed: 244.3 (kilobytes/second) I'd say the results are bang on, the plan I chose offers 2Mbps Down/192Kbps Up. Either way, its fast for me compared to what I used before Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 23, 2005 Same speed as I have Soon you'll realise the potential of what you harness, and before you know it you'll be filling up that hard disk pretty quickly. Since I've had broadband, I have no idea where half my disk space has gone, I've downloaded so much  Share this post Link to post
Thierry 0 Posted March 23, 2005 Hehe, the biggest things I have downloaded are mods for BF 1942. 700 MB takes about an hour or so. As long as its fast its fine, it dont have to be supersonic Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 23, 2005 agreed. I started out with a 600kbps connection, now NTL my broadband provider has bumped it over the last year to 2MB for free... marvellous Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 24, 2005 Fancy broadband huh... Cool stuff... Everyone's pitty towards me is very appreicated. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted March 24, 2005 Hence the pity... I am currently accepting donations to my pity fund. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted March 24, 2005 Soon you'll realise the potential of what you harness, and before you know it you'll be filling up that hard disk pretty quickly. Since I've had broadband, I have no idea where half my disk space has gone, I've downloaded so much  While it would be fun to download like crazy I can't. The problem with broadband in NZ is this annoying thing called "the data cap". The plan I've chosen, while fast, only offers a 10 GB cap. Once I go over it the speed of the connection gets throttled back to 64Kbps until the next month. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 24, 2005 ahh, i see... I never have a bandwidth limit on mine... one of the very few ISPs that allows unlimited download limit. Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted March 25, 2005 ntl has an imaginary limit of 1Gb/day - if you consistantly go over that limit then they'll take action, but that's only in extreme cases. ntl haven't sped up my connection to 2Mb yet Share this post Link to post
