Interesting Quote

Recommended Posts

Now for all you EA haters out there, please leave this topic now....

Earlier, someone who wishes to remain anonmynous diverted my attention to Gamespot and their preview of Petroglyph's Empire at War.... The movies I saw, and the E3 interview I saw left my jaw dropping to the ground. Afterward I spoke to the person about the game and its live gameplay sequences. The following quote came along which intrigued me...

I have no doubt in my mind that as Petroglyph, Westwood have risen from the ashes and are coming back with a vengence. a revenge, a brute force so strong that it will possibly destroy EA's Command & Conquer where it stands

Now for anyone who hate's Star Wars, just halt one minute... go to gamespot and watch what lies behind the theme and title of the game, and take a look at the seemless combination of Ground and space battles and the non linear gameplay potential.

Like in 1995, the guys have nailed the coffin shut once again, they have centred a whole campaign purely in Real time, just like Imperium Galactica 2 did back in 2000. This game is effectively drawn inspiration from Imperium Galactica from what I've seen so far... and this is a good thing in my eyes :D

So draw in the latest evidence forgetting just for a moment what this game is about and focussing on it's gameplay elements and features.. then consider the quote. And please discuss...

I for one (with all due respect to EA and the C&C franchise) agree to a degree with the above quote, and the whole scenario presents some interesting questions. And thus throws up a well known quote as seen in my signature... Was Kane the soothsayer to Westwood's future??? hmmm. :?

As the old saying goes "I created you thefore I can destroy you"

A bit ironic if it does happen.

Revenge of the Sith. The Sith were long forgotten after seemingly have been defeated by the Jedi 1000 years ago, only to rise again and defeat them.

Long ago, EA bought out and disolved Westwood. Thinking they had won, Ea moved on to other companies, like Ubisoft adn Blizzard to try and take them over. Now, Westwood has risen again, and is coming back with a new name, a new game, and a vengeance to win back the throne. Ironically that game is a Star Wars one. Lets hope the Westwood resurects A.K.A. Petroglyph dont come to an untimely end like the Sith did.

BTW that in no way says that EA is the Jedi and Petroglyph is the Sith. Maybe the analogy should be reversed. Westwood was the guardians of C&C and justice for over a 4 years period, when seemingly out of somewhere ovedr in the sports games industry, EA rose to take over C&C. They ruled the franchise for several years. Now Westwood is back with a new name and a new game, and makes its bid for RTS Leadership once again.

Empire at War is certainly graphically impressive. Westwood have finally switched to a killer 3D engine. Check out a few of the screenshots at the Petroglyph website (http://www.petroglyphgames.com/games/starwars.php) - They blew me away more than the movies at Gamespot.

It would certainly be nice if they were to create a C&C-esque game, I would have no trouble in converting CnCWorld to cover that new game!
