Microsoft says there will be a 3rd service pack for Win XP

Recommended Posts

Microsoft has officially confirmed that there will be a third service pack for the current client version of the Windows OS, Windows XP.

The company declined to release further details, but says that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) will be available after the shipment of Windows Vista, the next version of the client OS. Visa is scheduled to be available at the end of 2006.

Meh... XP by itself works fine for me.. XP service pack 2 didn't really do anything to my "computing experience"...

As long as they send me it on CD like SP2 then I won't mind that much.

XP works fine, but goes so slow and eats up so much processing power. My linux box is on an old HP Vectra 550 with a Pentium 3 in it, and it goes twice as fast.

In XP, exlplorer is part of the windows kernal, you shut that down, you lose all of windows apart from it's basic functions... nice idea, although it does require a reset.. at least on my PC anyhow.

At least when Explorer crashes, it resets and restarts. previous versions of windows meant only one thing... the blue screen of death..

Transferring to XP was one of the worst decisions I've ever made for an operating system. I may have XP professional, but I cannot really see much difference over home, it gives you a bit more freedom, but not much.

Despite what alot of people think, and their concerns... Windows ME was my favourite.. closely followed by Windows 98SE.... XP sucks, period!

How can you say that? XP is by far the most stable version of windows... Besides 3.0 I think...

2000 beats XP, but XP is the latest version there is :P

If explorer crashes, I do crtl+alt+del to get the screen where you can lock your comp, open task manager.

If you then open task manages, and click on Run Process and fill in explorer.exe, it should work fine, works for me

Pff.. Windows 98 was a nightmare for me.

Everytime I tried to type up an essay or something after like the first or second page everything would crash...

I had some real nice "conversations" with my PC back then...

XP on the other hand has only ever crashed twice, both times my fault though. So I wouldn't count them as proper crashses. ;)

Excuse me?! Did I just hear you say Windows ME was your favorite? *shoots myself*

My Windows ME crashed like every 10 weeks, it couldn't handle games that well, and other craps. How can you like Windows ME? PS: Windows ME was like a beta to XP.

Same for me chickendippers, I have used all the major Windows versions over the years (except for Win2k), never had crashing problems. Any problems that I've had have been minor and I manage to solve them. Windows XP is stable for me, it never crashes, never gives me any problems. All my games run fine, apps to.
