Saracen 16 Posted October 17, 2005 EA and Steven Spielberg Team Up To Develop Three Original Videogames October 14, 2005 – In a ground-breaking long term agreement, Electronic Arts today announced that Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg will be collaborating with the game makers at EA’s Los Angeles studio (EALA) to create three new original franchise properties. Beginning this year, with offices located on site at EALA, Spielberg will work directly with EA’s development teams to offer his signature style of storytelling to the concept, design, story and artistic visualization of the new games. EA will own the intellectual properties and the game franchises will be developed, published and distributed worldwide by EA. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. "I have been playing EA games for years and have watched them master the interactive format." said Steven Spielberg. "Having watched the game industry grow from a niche into a major creative force in entertainment, I have a great deal of respect for EA's understanding of the interactive format. I'm looking forward to working closely with the team in Los Angeles." “There is no greater storyteller than Steven Spielberg,” said EA Chairman and CEO Larry Probst. “In addition to his gift for pleasing movie audiences, he has an innate understanding of games and how to immerse players into a fantastic world of action and characters.” “It’s incredibly exciting to be collaborating with Steven Spielberg,” noted Neil Young, VP and Studio Head at EALA. “He shares our vision for the potential of the medium and has the passion and creativity to help us finally deliver on the promise that a game can not only engage and compel you with its interactivity, but can also move you emotionally.“ The mission at EALA is to be the definitive creative destination for game makers and game development in Southern California. It is home to the award-winning Medal of Honor™, Command & Conquer™ and The Lord of the Rings™ franchises. EALA drives innovation in technology, art and game design by employing a first-class studio of game-makers at its campus in Playa Vista, CA. The studio is also home to EA’s Worldwide Music and Music Marketing group and EA Mobile. So what do you think of this then? Huge news! I do not mean to speculate here, but is this a sign of better things to come from EALA? Are we possibly talking the return of "Old skool" C&C Movies and storylines? Will EA use spielberg's experience to finish off the Tiberian Storyline? Go comment! Share this post Link to post
Acerz492 1 Posted October 17, 2005 Speilberg is great at what he does, so of course, we're in for a few great games if the movies are reminicent of what he puts on the silver screen. Finally! Something good from EALA! Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted October 17, 2005 Yes, it will be nice, IF he works on CnC, or I guess, even if he doesn't Share this post Link to post
Publix666 0 Posted October 17, 2005 i dont think he would have any part in the c&c.....cause it says "original games" c&c isnt orginally theirs. bu tthen again anything tht comes out after ra could be considered "originally" theirs...so who knows...but i agree..it would be a great direction from EA...they seem to be doing alot for us c&c players these days Share this post Link to post
leone5482 0 Posted October 17, 2005 Ehh..He might continue with C&C...but don't count on it....He would have to be persuasive towards EA because EA said Red Alert 3 would be last.Sp who knows?Maybe? Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted October 17, 2005 Oh come on guys, don't be saying they won't, then you'll jynx it! They will work on C&C, they will! :x Share this post Link to post

Luk3us 63 Posted October 18, 2005 Is it me or is the PC market being more and more overlooked now? In relation to the GS interview. Share this post Link to post
Rusty Le Cyborg 0 Posted October 18, 2005 To quote C&CKing from the News page - Gamespot today released a Q&A with EALA Director Neil Young, focussing primarily on the Spielberg/EA Partnership. It makes for an interesting read, but for the C&C Community, it makes things look a little bleak at the moment. I think that this doesn't really makes things look bleak, as decisions about CnC will have already been made at EA. The Spielberg partnership, which may have been good if he was brought in to direct cut-scenes or whatever would not really have been necessary. After all, Westwood did not have him onboard for the first CnC outings. The recent comments/rumours about how we have to be patient etc may indicate a Newsflash from EA will be forthcoming. Who knows? The finishing touches may be being put to the game as we speak. I realise that this is probably unlikely, but the thing with the tight rein EA has over it's employees, APOC included, means that we won't know until they want us to know. I wouldn't lose much sleep over it if we didn't hear anything until after Christmas...at the earliest. As we all have gathered from a lot of games companies. "Coming Soon", "End of October" and "Christmas Release" don't really tend to mean a great deal. Oh well. So much for optimism Cheers for now Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted October 18, 2005 Is it me or is the PC market being more and more overlooked now? In relation to the GS interview. I agree. Time to get some more Pepsi caps (they got a contest going for an XBox 360 right now) Share this post Link to post
leone5482 0 Posted October 18, 2005 Yea...read the article about Neil....in it he says there 100% won't be a C&C...so your high hopes can hit the floor. Share this post Link to post

Rusty Le Cyborg 0 Posted October 18, 2005 Yea...read the article about Neil....in it he says there 100% won't be a C&C...so your high hopes can hit the floor. Okay. Quote me where he says that...are we reading the same article? Do you mean that Spielberg is not coming to make a CnC franchise game? Maybe not. That doesn't mean that there is no CnC game to be had though from EA. Cheers for now Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted October 19, 2005 lol... Ya get the feeling that C&C just keeps on getting put on the back burner.. Meh... So what. It'll happen. Eventually.... That is. Share this post Link to post
