Google - Good or Bad?

Google has been great to me thus far, but some of the things they are doing now are really kind of weird.

 

Google Web Accelerator

Loads all webpages through Google's servers. This causes privacy issues, as any web page you visit is entered into Google's search databse. It's like having human spiders crawling the web.

 

Google Desktop (or something like that)

Indexes your hard drive. Would you trust anyone to search and index your entire hard drive? It makes for easier searching, but if that got into the wrong hands...

 

Adsense

Well, most people think Adsense = Money or Adsense = Scam. Personally, I got $118 from Adsense, so it does pay out. But recently my account was suspended for invalid clicks. I give ads to all my hosting clients to display. I don't tell them to click them, but one of them was "being nice" and clicked over 30 times in half an hour. I promptly got an email from Google. I appealed my suspension over a week ago, no response.

 

Google Corporate Tools

Like the Google Mini, and other tools. Link Indexes a corporate intranet or corporate docuements. Same principle as Google Desktop. Just on a much larger scale.

 

Some of these things are kind of neat, but the privacy issues, I'm not so sure about. I love Google as a search engine, but as a company, as a competitor to Microsoft, and as anything other than a convienence, not too fond of that idea.

Yeah I recall when they first announced that Google Web Accelerator thing people who are running forums (and we know there are millions of forums on the net) were concerned about the the privacy issue, becase this thing could read and cache private messages etc....

Google can take pictures anywhere and i mean anywhere

This worries ppl of terriost using them.

You will need broadband to take pics.

As a search engine, sure, I agree there but they've branched out too far. Google's only other useful success is Adsense... The rest just plain suck.

all of those are very valid concerns. Unfortunatley, Government wont stop Google until after they know terrorists were using it for somehitng big. Until then :shock:

Google is taking over my PC slowly, I have the desktop search and my gmail account is now my main one for business purposes. I like how simple they are. It removes the complexities of other people. Special features aren't anything special really.

Doesn't anyone know that the only thing Google actually built themselves the search engine? Everything else is based off something else that exists already and Google failed with GMail and they'll fail with anything else. Google Talk is nothing more than Jabber and The Google OS is nothing more than a prettied up version of Linux.

 

So tell me, what's so great about Google's other services?

they are overextending themselves. They are gone get caught in a bind somewhere along the line and loose their credibility. about the only Google service I have is the search bar on the upper right side of Firefox

not really. Cause its a nationally known oranisation that you can sue to hell if yo uwin and htey dotn pay you. Gambling is really bad, cause people get soo hooked on it and loose soo much.
