It has nothing to do with the fact that you are new. You are in a forum community that predominantly are hardcore lovers of Rock and Metal in all it's forms...

You are like a thomson Gazelle that's just ran into a cheetah's territory.. Of course you are going to get ripped apart.

bea-utiful King.

There are occasionlly people in here who do happen to agree with everything said. However, this does not make for good conversation. Thats why the active people (for the most part) are long time members.

It's not close mindedness, it's experience. Personally, I find heavy metal and progressive rock to be more enjoyable than rap. However, that doesn't mean there aren't any rap songs I don't like since I do happen to like a few.

I grew up with a heavy backround in Jazz and Classic rock.

being a musician myself, I personally have yet to see rap as music, nor has it ever been studied. Thats why Im not a big fan of it. Thats and I dont like the lyrics and actionas ofthe rappers at all

Seriously... I really don't see anything redeeming in rap. At all.

Even if it is considered music, it's the absolute bottom of the barrel, and its message, more often than not, is one of moral degeneracy, glorification of violence, drug use, murder, graphic objectification of women, etc.... real nice stuff.

What's the point? :?

i know BWare...i am sympathetic with you...but with my experiences i like rap/hiphop...lately ive been getting back to rock...don't get me wrong i love many types of music genre's...and to relate to BWare saying what the majority of rap refering to violence and all that...i recently saw a poet/rapper on Russell Simmon's Def Poets (one of the less artistic and more gangster musically inclined poets..sadly enough). his name was lennon i think..he was telling how everyone hated gangster rappers...i personally HATED gangster rappers until i heard his 'poem.' He was saying why gangster rappers rapped the way they did...his main point, though, was that gangster rappers rap about what they do because that is all they ever knew all their life..not being given a chance nearly as useful as any other artist's opportunity..apparently those not raised in poverous neighborhoods...i understood what his point was..and now i do not respect gangster rappers as artists but as ambitious 'businessmen.' but still i must remind you all that i like the more poetic and refined hip-hop artists and many other genres as well...(check Now Playing and see what i have recently listed).....Music hits my heart and that is why i carried on so long...as my name somewhat implies i am 40-50% a man of passion..and when my passions are questioned or criticized i react mostly defensively  ......yea wuta long response i know but HEY Y NOT GET TO KNOW HOW redAsbLooD thinks..

Interesting, but I do not buy the "grew up in a bad neighborhood so I don't know any better" defense... at all. It's a copout if I ever heard one. Living in America especially, you can't honestly say that you don't have a "fair chance" no matter who you are. I don't care if you were raised by wolves. The stuff those idiots do and rap about is beyond any defense.

grew up in a bad neighborhood my arse. where did they get the money to start rapping. and why do they sing about their "o so bad childhood expiriences" if they are so bad.

wake up and get your head outa that guys arse and look around. public schooling is free to attend, and you can always go to a foster home if you have no parents with morals.

well i wouldnt be able to answer some of those questions because i dont know about rapper's personal lives. i hate how their "life sux" is all they rap about...the majority of rappers have such shallow content...gives hiphop a bad name....once again i gotta recommend that def poet show...inspiring...its not all rappers...99% poets..speaking about everything..the shows gota intellectual and socially warm feeling to it

Okay dude, that is legit message wise- it's good to hear that it's not 100% crap. Of course, you still haven't convinced me on the music end of it....

Im with him

although, a lot of modern "rock" is getting to the point of not so good lyrics either.

there still are soem heavy hitters out there, like Dream Theater, Rush, Styx, and quite a few others. But a lot of modern metal and prog rock jsut isnt good.

But at least its music :P

'Tis not old...'tis only four days between your post and the last post.

Maybe we should start a new topic on New Years celebrations instead.

As for being to New York City? I haven't been there at all. I don't really wanna go, but one day I might just visit it for the hell of it.
