Not good at math? 62 now 72. *Necessary*

But yes, it was necessary and it was a great Allied victory, but very high casualties.

Where is the "Who cares it was over 60 years ago" option?

I have to agree with you here Tree, this is pretty much just as pointless as the 62 year anniversary of Kennedy being shot.

Let this stuff go. There were lots of days when someone died in a war, and at times, MANY more.

so even if you don't care you still should respect the men who lost their lives 62 years ago. :( at base we ALL *marines, rangers, and seals* had a moment of silence for those men

If you had that much respect you wouldn't start the thread title with omfg....

unlike u nonamericans and unpatriotic americans...i actually respect those soldiers who stormed those beaches. they gave their lives for their country and for a good cause too. they made the ulitmate sacrifice so u brits and europeans wouldnt be saying heil hitler and wearing swastikas.

i salute the soldiers on those beaches and the US military

...ok the brits get a bita credit but the main bulk of the landing was us. the french dont count since they're sisies and had their asses mauled and overun by the germans....we saved their skins on dday.

We've saved their skins several times. It irks me when people have no respect anymore. "oh, that happened a long time ago, it couldnt happen now, who cares anyway" is the prevailing attitude, and its killing me.

I would bet my life that 99.99% of people alive today couldnt pull off even an attempt at that. Should something requiring another 'D-Day' ever happen in this day and age, the cowards of the world would step forward and cry out ofr peace and a new president and lower oil prices. No one would care. Why? Because that attitude of disrespect is shown all over. If you walk up to e Vietnam vet and say "You worthless piece of ****, couldnt even kill a few million Vietcog without getting pulled out" I bet they would injure you on the spot. There is nothing that can be said or done to match what those soldiers sacrificed that day to save the skins of every citizen in Europe, the former Soviet Union, and Asia. I hope you all just stop and think for a minute, those men gave you the chance to live. Without that invasion, next to none of us would be here now, and if we were, we'd all be a lot different.

Thats the most disrespectful thing I have heard in a while.

The Americans, the Brits, Canadians and the French resistance all did an heroic job on D-Day.

I admire the patriotism, but dont downplay the fact that it was the Allies who won the war, not just America.

Crazymarine, if you are in Korea, how come you have a USA IP address?

The French resistance did an amazing job against the German occupation forces. If you want to know, Belgian + French forces stood a pretty good chance at holding the Germans back, except for 2 things. The French wanted the Belgians to sacrifice half of their country so the French army could group up with them and stand a chance, the Belgians didnt go for it. #2, the Belgian leader surrendured the entire army to Germany before they ever got to fight, and France was blitzed days before they were expecting it. Although the French high command surrendured pretty quickly too.

Yeah. Historical perspective is overrated.

Bitching time :P

If it wasnt for BRITISH pilots pwning the german airforce D-Day wouldn't have happened! :D that also put Hitlers plans for invading the UK off..... so us brits wouldn't have been speaking german ;)

I agree about the french thou.... most are cheese eating surrender monkeys :P

Mind you..... Omaha was twice as bad as it should have been..... cos the US bombers droped there bombs..... a few hundered yards BEHIND the german forces..... :bang: Due to that stupid fact i hate it when americans bitch about how they had a hard time..... the UK bombers hit the right spots ;)

there were lots of screw ups in WW2 not only from the US. The fact that the US and many other nations only had small almost non existant standing army prior to WW2 is one reason for all these screw ups.

Nice siggy Luk3us

Badger-you bitch about when Americans brag, yet here you are bragging....

oh yes, and it was the Americans who volunteered for the daylight bombing raids against Germany, because the Brits wanted to go at night when it would be harder for the Germans to see them. Now tell me.......right. Both America and the UK have our bragging rights. Dont hit up the other one and complain about it. Besides, we're both still close allies, no?

Why do you people care? It happened. Move on.

Just like a Holocaust topic in another forum. It was over 50 years ago people. Sure, it was bad, blah blah. But no reason to keep "remembering" it.

So you're saying that the US decision to attack Japan after being attacked at Pearl Harbor was a "worst" decision? Man you're dense.

Why remember them tree? So we dont repeat the same mistakes. And so we dont ever let something anywhere near in scope happen again.
