Interesting Alphabear... yeah, I pretty much agree with you there. There are some places in Europe I could see myself living as well, but besides the US (which I'd be crazy to leave), Canada is a decent option... all communistic tendencies aside

Business drives everything. English is also considered the universal language of science. But seriously- can you name a single other language that could even come close to being considered universal? Just about every major world leader speaks English. It's a remarkable thing.

Actually, that's Latin

Wrong. It's English.

You're confused- many scientific naming conventions are based in Latin, but science's language has been English for hundreds of years. Do you really think that Latin- a dead language- is often used to communicate new ideas and theories?

It's amazing, isn't it?

Always? Who told you that? If so, then why is it that nearly ALL international business is done in English?

It's the official language of more countries? That's kind of a pointless statistic. Also, of COURSE Mandarin is spoken more than any other language- there are well over a billion Chinese! :P

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, you're right about that. It has historically been French, but as of now, it's absolutely English. Some folks are just a little slow in realising the change (like Chirac, apparently ).

French is the official language of diplomacy. Hence why the Olypmic broadcasts were in English (pwn) French, and the native language of the host country.
