Tree 0 Posted July 23, 2006 IPv6 is going to be a pain... In Czech Rep. there's 6-7 year olds walking around with cell phones. It really serves no purpose. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted July 23, 2006 Most european teens find it more of a fashion accessory as well as a way to communicate with all their friends. It's like a modded car to an extent. The more expensive and better looking phone you have, the more status you have. If it take's photo's, plays MP3, and does everything that a PC can do, the cooler you are.... Aparently, European chicks don't dig scars or the make of your car. They dig the phone... These kids have no life. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted July 23, 2006 Hell, I'm 15, and I don't have a phone, but EVERYONE I know has one. Thing is, I can't see myself really using / needing one. Hell, what if they run out of numbers, like they were running out of websites? Share this post Link to post

You fail. >_> Only problem I have with my cellphone is that random people ring me up. o_O It's scary. I'm like, how the hell did you get my number? Share this post Link to post

Thing is, I can't see myself really using / needing one.I have one now, at your age, but for actual use, and I do have to pay the phone bills...I got it on my birthday Hell, what if they run out of numbers, like they were running out of websites?I don't think thats likely, but I think it would be a heck of a lot harder to overhaul :? Tree 0 Posted July 24, 2006 what if they run out of numbers, like they were running out of websites? That's what they've run out of. Numbers. The current IP system is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. The new one will be xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. That's a lot more numbers. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted July 24, 2006 Actually, I was speaking in terms of phone numbers. :-P Share this post Link to post
Nachmore 0 Posted July 24, 2006 Then they just add on an extra number to the beggining of the phone numbers. It's happened here in Australia - where they prefixed 9 and a while ago started adding 6 (used for phones that are provided over IP). Also happened in Israel with mobile phones, where they added on an extra number and changed the prefixes to create heaps more phone numbers and heaps of confusion for the first couple of months. Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 24, 2006 IP6V will just run and we wont notice the diff, right? Save a little faster response, but from what I understand, current sites wont have to change. Correct? Share this post Link to post
Tree 0 Posted July 24, 2006 I don't know. I imagine that it will all stay the same. But I've got 30+ servers each with 3 different IPv4 addresses. I don't want to have to change them all. That would definitly be a pain. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 24, 2006 30 servers eh.... Thats a lot. I wouldnt think they would make everyone chance, cause that would just be one big pain in the arse. Share this post Link to post
Tree 0 Posted July 24, 2006 Oh, I lied, the real way that IPv6 addresses will look like is this. Looks more like a MAC address. 3ffe:ffff:0100:f101:0210:a4ff:fee3:9566 Share this post Link to post

That would definitly be a pain.well, they could just fill in the rest of the existing servers' characters with .000.000, ect to solve that  Share this post Link to post
Tree 0 Posted July 25, 2006 Not if the new IPs are going to look like 3ffe:ffff:0100:f101:0210:a4ff:fee3:9566 Also, just adding 000.000.000 would create problems because companies often purchase large blocks of IP addresses. Me included. I own 216.183.51.* and 216.183.52.*. That's a small nugget compared to what corporations like Google own. I, and many others, use the 0 address as a base for the network. Tree 0 Posted July 25, 2006 Microsoft doesn't have a huge presence on the web. So I'd imagine They own only aroun 1000. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted July 25, 2006 On the topic of cell phones I'm getting one, but I don't like calling a million people wasting minutes... And I got the bare minium package. One thing I never understood was texting from a phone, you could more easily call someone and it would take less time... Share this post Link to post

Cygnus X-1 12 Posted July 25, 2006 you call the nuggest store and say "Hello, I'd like to buy a nugget" and you go from there.... on phones-its cheaper to call and talk too. I know plans vary, but mine is $0.99 USD to send, and $0.10 USD to view a text message. Share this post Link to post
