Command & Conquer 3 Officially Announced for Xbox 360

Recommended Posts

Electronic Arts have officially announced that Command & Conquer 3 is in development for the Xbox 360. This has been rumored for a while now based on the success of The Lord of the Rings The Battle for Middle-Earth II on the Xbox 360. Here is the press release:

EA ANNOUNCES COMMAND & CONQUER 3 TIBERIUM WARS FOR THE XBOX 360

EA Los Angeles Brings the Top Selling* Real-time Strategy Series to the Next Generation

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts Inc., (NASDAQ:ERTS - News) today announced that Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars (C&C 3) is in development for the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system. C&C 3 boasts an intuitive console-specific control scheme, fast-action strategy gameplay, deep single player campaign, and an immersive multiplayer experience featuring massive battles where you take control of large armies on the battlefield of the future.

"The Command & Conquer series finally makes its return to the console after seven years," said Mike Verdu, Executive Producer at EALA. "C&C 3 will help expand the RTS genre on the Xbox 360, building off of the foundation laid by the development of The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II. EA is evolving the console controls so that strategy gaming plays and feels native to the platform."

"C&C 3 is a perfect fit for the Xbox 360," said Mike Glosecki, Senior Producer at EALA. "Xbox 360 players will enjoy the action-packed online play and watching the epic Sci-Fi story of the game unfold as they play through the single player campaign."

The year is 2047 and the stakes could not be higher. Tiberium—a self-replicating alien substance that has infected the Earth—is spreading like a radioactive ice age. The Global Defense Initiative, a high-tech alliance of the world’s most advanced nations, is fighting to contain Tiberium, but Kane, the megalomaniacal leader of The Brotherhood of Nod has other plans for Earth. Kane’s secret society turned superpower is bent on using Tiberium to take control and transform humanity into his twisted vision of the future. All-out war rages over Tiberium and the fate of the planet rests in the balance.

The epic story of C&C 3, set in the Tiberium Universe, is seamlessly tied together with live action, high-definition video sequences featuring top Hollywood talent including Tricia Helfer, Josh Holloway, Michael Ironside, Billy Dee Williams, Grace Park, and more!

C&C 3 will be one of the most robust titles on Xbox LIVE**, with a steady stream of downloadable content on Marketplace. The first dashboard theme featuring amazing concept art from the development team will be available soon.

From the team at EALA who brought you the critically-acclaimed The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II for the Xbox 360, C&C 3 will ship worldwide in 2007 for the Xbox 360 and Windows PC. This product is not yet rated by PEGI. For more information, please visit www.CommandAndConquer.EA.com.

*According to the NPD Group. **Online play requires Internet Connection. Xbox Live online play also requires subscription to the Xbox Live service.

I'm an XBox 360 owner myself but to me C&C's true home is and always will be on the PC. But I'm sure the Xbox 360 version will be just good as the PC version.

This is the 'Big Announcement' they hyped up on their official forums? :?

Wonder if this'll be yet another disappointing multi-platform release. I've seen too many of my favourite game franchises go down the drain because of it. Sigh, it seems that every game must come out on a console these days. It's really sad to see. :(

Agreed. Can you say "heartless cash in"?

I wonder if they're holding off for a short while before announcing a PS3 and Wii version too. Oh and hell for the fun of it why don't EA go the full hog and release a turn based version for the PSP, DS, PS2 etc...

Actually, I'd buy that. Would be an interesting spin on the franchise :P

Why do you call this cash in? In case you have forgotten EA (and other game companies) are in the business to make money.

Of course C&C3 will be released on PC. EA aren't that dumb to make it XBox 360 exclusive and loose a ton potential sales.

I fail to understand why you all consider C&C3 on XBox 360 a negative thing.

Because it'll divert valuable resources away from the development of C&C for the PC. And I mean honestly, in my totally unbiased opinion, would any one really want to buy an XBox 360 version of C&C3? No, of course not. Now if it were to be released on the PS3, well thats another story. :P

oh dont get me wrong Sonic....i absolutly love that its comming for 360...i own one and will glady hand over 70 to 80 bucks for a limited edition copy....hell id buy 2 of them just to keep one in a wrapper. I dont think its a negitive thing...EA is basicly just want another big money maker....if they make the game available to a larger audience other then PC gamers such as us..they make more money...and since im guessing BFME2 was a big hit, is another reason.....seems as though quite a few companies are making RTS's for 360 right now....BFME,Halo RTS, and now C&C3....damn trend going

Yeah I see this as a good thing. It will bring more people to the game, for instance people that dont play pc games much. The more people that take up C&C will give EA a better reason to get to work on the next one.

What would be cool if both formats were cross compatible. As in, Xbox 360 players could play against PC players on the net. :P

Actually, that is a great idea, but i would think pc would have an advantage over the 360.

Sonic, any chance we can edit the pictures to make them a little smaller or something? They stretch the layout on the front page a bit.

From what I understand, and please correct me if Im wrong developers can make PC and XBox 360 games at the same time now, due to PC architecture of the XBox 360. I don't see the XBox 360 version cutting into the development time of the PC version.

EA haven't stated when the Xbox 360 version will be released. I'm picking the will both be released at the same time or the PC version will be out first, followed by the Xbox 360 version a couple months after.

I agree with Out2Kill. The PC gamers would have a huge advantage over the XBox 360 gamers. On the development side of things EA would have to find someway to bridge the gap between whatever match making service/platform is used on the PC (probably GameSpy) and Xbox Live.

there wouldnt be too much of a advantage....all you need is a USB keyboard and mouse and you can hook them right up to the 360's front USB ports. On the mod side of the game we'll be hugely disadvantaged....but as long as there's some type of skirmish mode for 360 ill be happy....i always play skirmish more then campaign anyway

At least their releasing C&C3 for the PC, unlike Bungie with HALOWARS. As for my opinion on C&C for the 360, maybe its a new way EA and Microsoft can become good friends. Lets just hope they dont go on buying eachother out and go blowing the C&C Universe to kingdom come.

(Plus most PC players would own them up. :P)
