Classic Remakes

Recommended Posts

Games developers over the years have not been as bad as the BBC for repeats, or even Hollywood for that matter. But remaking old games is something we take with a pinch of salt since they can either be game which surpasses the quality and uphold the legacy of the old version, or they can crash and burn in hell.

Westwood have recreated Dune 2, with Dune 2000. Final Fantasy 1 & 2 and settlers II have been given treatment and now the original Tomb Raider is being redeveloped to the latest engine. So here's my question:

What game in History would you like to see in redevelopment to the modern market?

I'd like to see EA cut away from the Need For Speed Franchise for a year or 2, to create a brand new Road Rash in the current Need For Speed mould. That would seriously rock!

Or After C&C 3 EALA should expand on the squad mechanic of the SAGE engine and use it to develop a true sequel to Bullfrog's Syndicate Wars!

So what classic game do you think requires some special treatment?

Tetris? ... no

Diablo II ofcourse.. now thats an action RPG classic for sure!

With full3D and alot of new weapons and battlefield slaughters, it would defenatly be a winner in my hall of fame, if u can say that.

...I will not see a diablo 3 wannabe World of Warcraft... I simply cant take WoW! boring... takes to much time... empties your wallet every month...

But Diablo 2 is my favorite action RPG classic!

Yup Diablo II would be wicked.. Or they could just do Diablo III instead, like they're meant to. But avoid the whole WOW sort of gene...

Starcraft is another. Or, they could just get on with making Starcraft 2.

Red Alert in full 3D glory. Not ****ty RA2 or some crappy Generals mod. The exact game, just updated graphics engine.

But that would ruin the game for a lot of fans. They would hate the better graphics' date=' better sound, speech rather than text, ect.[/quote']

GoldenEye is a blast, don't get me wrong but it had some flaws and could have been so much better.

What's sad is that I'm sure half of you are older then me and none of you have mentioned the really good gems from the early days of windows and dos.

Since I am probably the biggest retro gamer on the planet...

Warwind: First game EVER to include more then two sides and STILL make them all different. And this was back in the days of Warcraft II kiddies. :P

What I would do if I could get the talent needed and the rights from SSI's holdings is divide each of the four alien races into their own army again (like the first warwind) and include the two human factions for good measure (from the sequel) then do it all in the DoW engine.

Since I'm on a RTS kick...

KKND: This game was pretty much a C&C clone that never took itself seriously. It had some good ideas though which would have made it shine if it veered away from the "all armies are identical" syndrome that plagued both games. And can you ever have too many games that don't take themselves seriously?

Because I'm probably the only guy who liked him...

Jazz Jackrabbit: Rambo meets Sonic and they combine their abilities to form the namesake superhero... nuff said.

Not a "classic" game but something to applease the Sen. Libermans of the world....

Harvest Moon: Hey, I LIKED the premise! A RPG where you don't have to go slay monsters and help stupid-ass princesses to get ahead in the world is nice (and now for something completely different.) But the series needs to make a 90 degree turn if it really wants to be taken seriously. I have my ideas, but then so do others.

Someone was remaking StarCraft on the SAGE engine. It looked ****ing amazing. Sorry, no other way to put it. It was beautiful, and perfect. It would have been something I'd play for decades to come.

But Blizzard shut it down.

*sigh*

A new Renegade would be nice. Not even a sequel, but maybe a new graphics engine. There are way too many glitches in the Renegade graphics.

start making a game and trash it when their half done is relly taking hard on the fans i think... Its only showing how unsure they are on the stuff their making.. also it is discarding the fans trust.

Modders just need to learn that you can't use competitors IP's for a mod. Far better to make a mod using an engine from the same company, or at least a company that doesn't exist and therefore can't complain... ie making a dodo out of an ostrich.

Unlike Renegade into Unreal 2007, I would like to see a decent graphics update for the original Red Alert. The APB boys & girls seem to be doing a bang-up job. I was wondering whether there was a RTS version down, but from the links given earlier nothing is released. And the Zh mod just looks ugly. Shame.

Allow me to echo my desire for a Starcraft and Syndicate Wars game... and add Impossible Mission from C64.

I guess Elite has been done... but hungry for more.
