Sonic 296 Posted April 29, 2007 In the latest PC Gamer Podcast, the President of Petroglyph, Mike Legg, makes an appearance on the show to discuss Petroglyph's latest game, Universe at War: Earth Assault. However for the focus of this news update Mike Legg also commented on Command & Conquer 3. In short, Petroglyph absolutely love Command & Conquer 3 and they honestly believe EALA did an outstanding job on it. This is high praise coming from the original developer of Command & Conquer. In another interesting comment made by Mike Legg on the topic of Command & Conquer 3. He said that EALA actually contacted Frank Klepacki to see if he was available to do some music for the game. This is news to me, and wouldn't have been great if it had worked out that way? However it was not to be because Frank is way to busy with Petroglyph's latest game. I have to be honest I would not have believed that myself if I just read it somewhere, but when you actually hear someone say it with your own ears it has to be legit. If you want to listen the PC Gamer Podcast for yourself click here, the interesting stuff starts around the 29 minute mark. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted April 29, 2007 Cool, this is really neat. So all the people that said "omfg EA needs to contact Frank wtf", in YO FACE!!! Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted April 29, 2007 interesting news to me.. petro approves?saracen doesn't? Share this post Link to post
Mighty BOB! 5 Posted April 29, 2007 Frank commented a few months ago on his own site that he would have loved to do the music but couldn't due to professionalism of him working @ Petro. Share this post Link to post
sith_wampa 6 Posted May 1, 2007 Pfffffft.... That podcast makes me realize that if EA decided to let the old WW team stay in Las Vegas, we would have had C&C3 four years ago, there would be nobody pissed about Generals, the C&C soundtrack would still kick ass, and we could have RA3, C&C4, and maybe RA4 by now... But, that's business for ya, and unfortunately EA made the wrong decision when moving EALV. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted May 1, 2007 interesting news to me.. petro approves?saracen doesn't? It's called professionalism mate. You really think Mike Legg is gonna say it sucks and risks a big fallout from EA? I think not. Petroglyph love what EA have done to the game, gameplay wise (just like me) but as a legacy and the story, it couldn't be further from the truth. Like me they are bitterly disappointed by the way it went, and that's that. Funny though cos 80% of the original Westwood staff were called upon to finish C&C 3, that tells you how much help EA needed to get this game out. if EA decided to let the old WW team stay in Las Vegas, we would have had C&C3 four years ago, there would be nobody pissed about Generals, the C&C soundtrack would still kick ass, and we could have RA3, C&C4, and maybe RA4 by now... Meh, nevermind, that was EA's badly timed decision, and they tried to hit the ground running, but instead broke both their legs. All I care for now is that Petroglyph are making Universe at War. A game with no legacy, expectations that build on their own merits and one of the most original sci-fi RTS games since Starcraft. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted May 1, 2007 saracen, i agree...i was merely teasing you its obvious Petro's approval was almost purely professionalism.. Share this post Link to post
Aaron Kaufman 0 Posted May 1, 2007 This thread does not surprise me, the cyncisism, the disbelief, the unacceptance, its just never good enough no matter who you hear it from, no offense, but professionalism aside...Mike Legg did not have to discuss our game in a PC Gamer podcast about *HIS* game. He went out of his way to compliment our game. That my friends is industry professionalism and appreciation. Its nothing less and its nothing that is far from the truth. We are still friends with many folks at Petro from existing relations, we extremely respect what they are doing and they...vice versa. It would be nice to feel acceptance from our hardcore fans and not read constant posts from people who think they know what they are talking about (c'mon...80% of the petro team was asked to help finish C&C 3, (sticks tongue out)). Professionalism is having your facts straight. I say, when you post, have some community professionalism and post some facts if you want to make such a brash statement. I want to say thank you to Mike Legg for his extremely kind words, the fact he went way out of his way on a huge public podcast such as PC Gamer is incredibly grateful and insightful. You don't see MSFT praising the PS3, but they did publicly acknowledge how cool the Wii was. Was that just professionalism? I don't think so. PR training teaches you to dodge questions you don't want to answer, and you do that pretty quickly when your dodging. You'd like never see another gaming professional bash a game, BUT...Mike Legg could have easily dodged the topic in a sincere fashion if he didn't enjoy C&C 3 in the way he spoke about it. And a podcast has much more truth and reality to it than a written interview. So, if I were Jack Bauer analyzing that interview, i'd say is pretty darn well respected and truthful. So, thank you again, its great to hear compliments from our friends at Petro, they are good guys over there and have a lot of respect from us here. And...I think I said this a long...long time ago...told ya so about Frank -APOC Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted May 1, 2007 professional..yes it was.i didn't say anything against him.. by the way it is awesome to see you commenting here APOC... Share this post Link to post
Aaron Kaufman 0 Posted May 1, 2007 This is one of my favorite sites in the C&C community. I think SONIC is a fantastic C&C Community Leader role model and I always respect what he has to say no matter which way he sways. I'll be around more. I just want to see this community start appreciating or at least constructively criticizing, instead of going back to the old formulaic arguments that have zero validity any more. Its like, c'mon, you're here on these forums because you love CNCNZ.com and you respect SONIC. That said, take heart in what he says. The majority of this community is tired of hearing these comments. Its about focusing on the present which is C&C 3 in all that it is, and not about focusing on the past. The past does not matter anymore. That was nearly 7 years ago. And let me ask you this, whose to say if the tables were turned and say we were doing a Star Wars game...) All hypothetical... And yes, we have do have a blanket respect of professionalism in this industry, but people don't exhalt such enthusiasm on such a public prominent podcast out of thin air just to be professional. Podcasts are a tool for public opinion, a tool to use to be "real". Save for a written interview for someone to think too long and hard about what they want to say, hehe. Anyhow, i'm not gonna open a can of worms that I am trying to shut, so i'm gonna stop preachin and keep on having fun with my favorite loyal community ) -APOC Share this post Link to post

Sonic 296 Posted May 2, 2007 Funny though cos 80% of the original Westwood staff were called upon to finish C&C 3, that tells you how much help EA needed to get this game out. If your going to post such bold statements some sort of a source is required to back that up. Professionalism is having your facts straight. I say, when you post, have some community professionalism and post some facts if you want to make such a brash statement. Professionalism is the key word here, and unfortunately we see very little of it in the C&C community. Its very different being involved in the Petro community, the C&C community (and not because of C&C 3) has turned into a giant ball of anti-EA everything. And like I told Saracen and Zee last month..... if you don't like it then leave. Why stick around if your not enjoying C&C anymore? Apoc, I commend your professionalism, I would like to see the look on your face when your browsing the official EA C&C 3 forums, the only topics I read there are topics from EA guys, I steer clear of the rest because most of them are people bitching about the game, finding fault with something. I guess its your job to take the negative with the positive though. The whole anti-EA attitude and and lack of professionalism is not only confined to forums, but I see it spilling on to community fan sites now. The most recent evidence I found was here http://www.cncseries.com/news/?365. Share this post Link to post
Louis EX 0 Posted May 2, 2007 I don't know why everybody is so negative and ranting about EA. At least EA gave the fans a true C&C game (And it was really well done) and not just another Generals or whatever. I dunno, this just feels stupid. Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted May 2, 2007 hmph, generals was NOT a bad game, just not a good fit for the C&C series >_> Share this post Link to post
Aaron Kaufman 0 Posted May 3, 2007 The problem with the C&C community...and any RTS community is they want fixes overnight and they expect too much perfection. You go to any other RTS forum at game launch and you'll see something very similar. I am saddened to see Rob's rant, I don't blame him, but at the same time, its exaggerated. We had a "hot" launch and some unexpected technical issues which we fixed quickly with 4 patches, a blog, podcast, we've come out open and honest in everything. The exploits and cheats, its ridiculous to think we could have fixed those pre-launch. They were not caught because we didn't have thousands of people playing every day, so its tough to get every single thing. So, we've fixed them all for patch 1.05 and it will be out later in May. The dust will settle then. Till then, I apologize, and appreciate your patience. We're only human. -APOC Share this post Link to post
Louis EX 0 Posted May 3, 2007 Yes I totally agree, and this is not only happening in the RTS community. Same thing is happening in the Steam Powered community and others. Share this post Link to post
Gben 20 Posted May 10, 2007 Well this seems as good an opportunity to annouce my return to the forums after finally finishing the game last week! I think the team did a great job, despite minor nitpicks with technical things - like actors reading lines from a teleprompter. The game is a credit to EA, and the high rankings in XFIRE stats are an indication that other people agree. It's not perfect, but so far my major gripe with the game has simply been my high collectors number! I think the compliments from Petro are a credit to humanity. It's comforting to know that they can appreciate the efforts of others. (I was seriously expecting a rescue apoc mission in the game - or at least a mention). I'm still going through back log of news post - maybe someone has already done this. Anyway, it was fun - and I dragged it out as long as I could. Now I have to go back and do those few missions where I dropped the difficulty or forgot a bonus objective back to normal just to progress the story! GJ EA! Looking forward to next chapter in the story. -gben Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted May 10, 2007 i trust gben's opinion... that being said, i have a rejuvenated desire to buy cnc3.. still need to get my new pc.. just had to change my breaks..so im behind schedule by about 1000 downpayment.. dam,nit Share this post Link to post
Koen 2 Posted May 11, 2007 People want things fast. I don't know if it is a generational thing, but people younger than me sometimes lack patience. Anyway, I'm moving house right now and with my fresh 2nd copy of C&C3 I will be able to play over the internet against my sister 8) Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted May 12, 2007 koen i know what you mean, and i have patience. but i must admit that sometimes my desire and ambition override my self-control and logic, im human you know.. and it isnt really the time that is an issue, its more my luck. every time i get close to having enough for a down payment, something comes up and expends my savings. that is life, and i am warranted to be unsatisfied with my fortune whether or not it is current. Koen 2 Posted May 12, 2007 rEdaSbLood, about the patience I wasn't specifically refering to you. I was refering to people who want the 1.05 patch "yesterday". TheSoVietBlackOuT: Yeah, but she likes Fire Emblem better than RTS games Share this post Link to post
