What has influenced your taste in music?

So what has influenced your taste in music?

For me I'm starting to realize now that it was what I was brought up to think and the kind of music I listened to with my friends when I was a little kid. I still like the same songs and kind of music I liked as a little kid I think it's weird but do you have any stuff like that?

Time, friends, the radio and the Internet.

I didn't really like much of anything until I moved, and even then I didn't have a collection. It wasn't until my senior year in high school that I got into anything. I started with Metallica, Linkin Park and Tom Petty. After that it grew to include a plethora of big name bands like Megadeth, Iron Maiden and the Blue Oyster Cult.

During this time, I was downloading tons of Metallica bootlegs. I got one that was actually a DT boot instead so that's how I added Dream Theater to my line up.

It wasn't until Cygnus was active around here that I even thought about Rush. Got some stuff and you saw what happened there. ;p

Around mid-06, my brother got me into the local rock station and that's when I began to incorporate more post-1997 era bands into my playlist.

So there ya go. That's my music for ya. ;p

Well, my list is kinda short.

My mom likes to listen to oldies stuff, especially the Beatles. So I used to listen to a lot of that as a kid.

Then we moved to Kansas when I started the 3rd grade and I couldn't find any good oldies radio stations.

So I ended up adapting to the local culture, aka country music.

Then I got Command & Conquer and Frank Klepacki's music blew my mind.

And around 2000 or 2001 all new country music songs just started to suck. (90's country was the best)

So, following Frank's C&C lead, it's been nothing but electronic and rock for me since then.

When I was a kid, like most I was forced to listen to old crap by my parents.

Later on in light I moved towards the more light rock scene, now more towards the metal scene blah blah blah...

70-80's, early 90ish rock I listened to a lot and the Beatles and stuff from parents. (I liked techno, so parents didn't, never got radio time, that died)

The Beatles I liked but never that much. The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, and others caught my attention.

I was never really big on music when I was young. I didn't care. Then recently I started liking it more and noticed Frank's and other metal music. And so it begins...

Hehe, I thought you hated Linkin Park and keep telling me its emo.

Didn't like to listen to music till I was 11. My friend from school introduced to me Linkin Park, then Green Day (Both old and new). Got into it and thats when I loved listening to music.

Last year, my choir friends introduced to me Avenged Sevenfold, really loved it, thats when I really started to get into Metalcore and Screamo. I was introduced to an audio scrobbling software last Janurary called Last.fm, because Last.fm showed similar artists like Avenged Sevenfold, like Atreyu. I tried listening to some of their songs and I kinda like them.

Metalcore FTW.

I've got just about every category of music, I love all of it.

It all started in the womb, when mother would... errr, we'll go a little later than that.

My friends in middle school got me into Metallica and my love for music started then. I've played video games since I could move, and about 1500 of my songs are video game music remixes.

I had always listened to the local rock station and my taste has changed as theirs has. I also watch the Fuse TV channel and download any artists that I see on there that I find interesting. From there I've gotten AFI, Taking Back Sunday, Anberlin, The Used, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Three Days Grace and Papa Roach.

I took German in high school and my teacher introduced me to Rammstein, Die Toten Hosen, Zaunpfahl and other German bands. My brother lived in the Czech Republic and Slovakia for about two years and kept up with the music scene there. He got me into Slavic bands like Kryštof, Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana.

My high school friends have gone on to be in some decent local bands such as Echovalve and A Futile Effort.

Then there's some Sinatra, Michael Bublé, John Legend, and other chill artists.

Yeah, last.fm is a great site. Lots of bands I've never heard of. And of course lots of emo kids but I just ignore all that ****.

well that's all they want anyways is to be ignored, or admired for cutting their wrists but we'll get into that at another time but for now what is this LAST.FM you speak of?

Just btw too Linkin Park is kind of emo but not like completely emo, it's whatever genre with a hint of emo sprinkled on, and they're a good band.

i have a fairly broad taste in music, and don't really remember the history of my musical taste.

i went through phases of rock then trance then rap then hiphop then metal then everything...

i think my musical taste now is really well-rounded. i don't discriminate any genre really except country :P ...whatever sounds good

The only song I think was good from Linkin Park's new album is What I've Done. The rest is...well, boring.

I quite like Minutes to Midnight. Bleed it Out is a good song.

I also like anything Scottish or Irish because my dad always used to listen to the Thistle and Shamrock.

Listen to Dropkick Murphys too and I just bought the full Minutes to Midnight, (yes I actually PAID for it) but like Louis said What I've Done is really the only good song...

Well all music is created from emotion and also creates some sort of emotion with the listener, that's where the word originated from. So if that's the case, all music, including classical is emo!

HAHAHA, imagine Ludwig van Beethoven with an EMO haircut! :haha:
