Latest Dune Game?

Recommended Posts

I was relaxing at my sofa and I saw my old Playstation Dune 2000 game. Then I just remembered I saw a trailer of a new Dune game after Dune 2000?

What is it called? I have to try it out. Any good things to say about it?

Emperor Battle for Dune was a great game, sadly it died a quick a death in the online community. This was caused by Westwood not doing enough marketing. The Dune community still lives on though at http://www.dune2k.com/.

A few years back we used to run a Emperor fan site called the Emperor-Network, you can view it here http://web.archive.org/web/20030806125129/...or-network.com/

That captures a big moment in history if I ever did see one.

Yeah that's right we acquired loads of sites to our network in those few months :P

I lost dune 2000, and have not idea where it's walked off to.

Luckily however I saw someone with a psOne copy for sale, and I snatched it up. Works on my PS3 like a charm. On top of that, after playing this for a good couple of hours or so, I find it really hard to find why people are giving RTS game on the consoles a rather hard time.

Sure playing the game was a little slower on the console than a PC version of Dune 2000, but I had a sizeable base, forces, and defenses up within about 15 minutes. In fact I found by being just a little bit slower, I was able to manage my economy better, and seemed to handle the AI better. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sure I wasn't able to hot key, team up forces and stuff, but none of that mattered after a little while. I found myself playing the game rather quickly and efficiently and there was no frustration in it at all. The interface was exactly like C&C 3's as well, so I was able to find and build the structures I wanted instantly.

A lot of people are complaining that Universe at War will cause problems when it comes to the interface and that console gamers will struggle against PC players online. But I wouldn't say so. This Westwood playstation game gave me the best interface possible for something that was published in 1999. When UaW is released next year, 9 years on after this title, I'd imagine the interface to be on the pinnicle of console RTS gameplaying perfection. Cos this, like RA1 on the psOne were as close to perfect as they could back in their day.

Yeah i found the early console RTS games to be much better than say bfme2. Starcraft and C&C64 had good control schemes and you could still set up 4 teams on the hotkeys.

I think that the "best" players on UAW when its released with be PC players. Mainly cause I think they're be better a microing their units with a mouse and keyboard setup as opposed to a controller. Also the ability to hotkey things will defiantly give PC players a edge.

Console players just won't be able to compete at the top imo.

dune was a great universe, its a pity that westwood wasted its potential. Emperor couldve been a great game but didnt have the gameplay of ra2. recently i felt a strong urge to play dune2000 and easily found a download link:
