Global Conquest mode

Recommended Posts

When Kane's Wrath was first announced, the Global Conquest meta game was center stage along with the new storyline and subfactions. However, since then we've heard next to nothing about it. This feature was initially announced for C&C3 but got swept under the rug later. This bothered me at the time, but I figured that if we got a really good version of it in KW rather than a rehash of BFME2's War of the Ring it would have been worth it.

However, we haven't really heard anything more about it since the early announcements, and it wasn't ready to be shown at the community summit. Was it cut yet again? Are they not happy with the results and therefore downplaying it? I've given up on C&C3 online play, so Global Conquest will be what makes or breaks C&C3/KW for me.

Well I'm buying it anyway, especially for the sake of the three parts of nod missions. I have no idea what GC mode will be like, but I'm guessing at E:BfD campaign style.

EA does this, are you really that surprised? It looks like it's going to be a decent game, but I agree with you, I'd like to see it. If you're not gonna keep your promise, don't bother making it. ;)

Well, its one of the main features so i dont think it got cut. Why they didnt show it yet (Except the concept of the global map in a video game magazine) is beyond me, though, but in previews they always do mention it, so i hope it is going to be as cool as they made it out to be. Perhaps in a Tacitus Thursday episode? :P

Its SP only.

Awww. :(

Frankly I don't expect the game to be good, but I'll buy it anyway.

I dont care it we have heard anything or not. I have not played a good Risk style RTS since Emperor Battle for Dune. I wonder if EA used that for the basis of Kane's Wrath?

Oh well, the mechs and the subsides are returning and the world is mine for the taking once again.

:headrock:

Really? 'Cause War of the Ring sucked.

Well, WotR was made somewhat decent with RotWK, but from the sounds of things they were going to overhaul the meta game system completely (which I imagine is why it wasn't included in vanilla C&C3). For one thing, there would be no Risk-style set territories.

I dunno, though. EA's silence is worrisome.

They announced the same feature during the initial announcement of CNC3 and then never came through with it then. So i will believe it when i see it

Well, EA needs to come clean this time if the worst is true. They'll get a hell of a lot more respect from everyone if they just admit their failings then to pretend that GC never existed.

Per Apoc and IGN, Global Conquest is in KW but they're being awfully reserved about it. When Mike Verdu and Jim Vessella first unveiled Kane's Wrath last summer, GC was was billed as its "biggest gameplay addition." They were going to go beyond past metagame systems like BFME2's or DoW:Dark Crusade's, making it feel less like a series of linked skirmishes and more interactive and dynamic. Better still, the campaign was supposed to incorporate this feature so that it could be less linear.

Now it looks like they are not so enthused about it. The IGN preview mentioned it almost in passing and likened it to Dark Crusade and all but called it a series of linked skirmishes. All the hype lately has been on the epic units. Sounds like those of us who were anticipating a cool Global Conquest mode are going to end up with a port of BFME2's WotR to C&C3.

Disappointing.

yeah totally agree.

I would rather have a good GC mode than any epic units at all.. besides, epic units arent really c&c in my oppinion.

I have to eat some of my words, because the Tacitus Thursday preview info sounds & looks rather promising.

Well I haven't played the BFME or DOW's version of the GC, only Emperor's and SW:FOC's version of the concept. Emperor didn't work in SP, and I haven't had a chance to try FOC in MP. But as a big RISK fan - I'm eager to see it implemented somehow.

The TT information is still scant but I'm still interested overall. I wish really that one of the 3 EALA teams would really work on this concept and thresh it out. I think it's that important... a standalone expansion even focussed purely on this game mode not on adding new fiction or units!

I really think this a more important additional to the gaming experience rather a single EPIC unit.

Of course once the mechanism is out - the mod teams could possibly take it another level!
