Sonic 296 Posted March 11, 2008 We have four new Red Alert 3 screen shots ready to be picked apart and over analyzed by the hardcore C&C fans. Some of them have been seen in some of the scans of the magazine previews. Check them out below. These screen shots were originally posted by PCGames.de. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) The more and more I analyze these screen shots, the more resemblance I see to the "Starcraft 2" style art... Anyone else notice any kind of similarity? I thought SC2 kind of looked cartoony looking, and RA is suppose to look cartoony.. So makes sense to me. But am I the only one seeing it? Cool screen shots either way. hagren 0 Posted March 12, 2008 No youre not Id say that RA3 looks more advanced though, while SC2 has different proportions. Share this post Link to post
Saracen 16 Posted March 12, 2008 This and Starcraft 2 are in 2 different leagues right down the middle. I think half the problem is that these screenshots are currently coming from a Developer sandbox map which has uber sexy detail, great variable lighting, glorious colourful landscapes, great looking water and perfect condition weather effects. While the Devs may be going for a partial cartoon style look, the vibrancy of the map may be giving people the wrong impression. I can't really see much cartoon element to it, all I see are highly detailed colourful screenshots. Share this post Link to post
hagren 0 Posted March 12, 2008 Tell that to all those people already scratching off RA3 because of the "infantile" units and look Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted March 12, 2008 Looks like a 3D version of Red Alert 2 to me.... and that's a good thing Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted March 12, 2008 it looks great, but lets hope saracen is wrong Share this post Link to post

I thought the map looked realistic, especially the water. Looks like a 3D version of Red Alert 2 to me.... and that's a good thing That's a good way of putting it. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted March 12, 2008 I just updated the screens shots with larger versions. They are now 1600 x 1200, they were only 1024 x 768 before. Share this post Link to post

Gben 20 Posted March 13, 2008 thats an annoying slip of the finger - i just lost my post... the migs should be soviet - because they haven't shown any ingame footage of the Japanese. Especially when you consider that the devs had said soviets are classic/old style; allies are modern style; and japanese are futuristic. Besides Red=Soviets; Blue=Allies --- Classic RA2 colour scheme! Because we have hi-res pictures now, I feel this next comment should be in CAPS... I HATE THE NEW APOCALYPSE TANK!!! The packed up unit in screen11 - I wonder if that is an MCV or indeed a power plant. the 2 holes at the back remind me of power plant smoke stacks. And I'm wondering about the dynamic of building something on land, to be deployed in the water. What would be the advantage. Its funny how the developers have hinted that the sea is more important than land. It should be interesting. I also notice the sea shelf on some of the older pics - I wonder if it has any impact on subs?!? You can see the buildings have stilts - I also wonder if the shelf is purely cosmetic or it also has building restrictions... more valuable important structures need to be built further away from shore making them more vulnerable etc. So far I love everything... well except that mammy. I seem to understand that the man-cannon operates as sea transport. Where you load your boat with soldiers and they get deployed, circus cannon style onto the battlefield with parachutes. What I am hoping is that some mods it to an infinite supply on soldiers that can literately be spammed onto the enemy base. I wonder if the infantry can swim in this game - like the RA2 seal? Saracen 16 Posted March 13, 2008 And I'm wondering about the dynamic of building something on land, to be deployed in the water. What would be the advantage. Its funny how the developers have hinted that the sea is more important than land. It should be interesting. It just appears to me that the devs want to make both theatres of war as important as each other. But have a think about the tactical and strategical elements of using both. It can make some amazingly interesting campaign mission and Multiplayer setups. Imagine an Allied campaign mission if you will. You've taken down Russia, and now you're going to smash Japan... The only way to do that is invade. (Looks at google maps) North of the town of Matsue and Yonago, there are 2 relatively remote Islands, leaving from South Korea the 2 commanders start the invasion of Japan by removing the 2 lightly armed forward bases there. Naturally however building room is sparse because of the landscape, and there's only enough room to build a few basic structures on land. The result is that the rest of your base has to be built in the heavily defended waters. While Yonago is a heavy naval town, the Japanese have minimal sea bases... Therefore the bulk of their forces and defences are on the mainland, and their base is a Fortress. The only way to do it is using transports and amphibious units as your only option, heavy strategy is needed and it's not going to be easy! Supreme Commander did a few missions like this... Damn were they hard... which is good.... I hope for more of the same Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted March 13, 2008 Either I'm blind or there are no MiGs in that pic.... i only see allied (blue) aircraft... Share this post Link to post
sith_wampa 6 Posted March 13, 2008 Either I'm blind or there are no MiGs in that pic.... i only see allied (blue) aircraft... You're blind. The second image in Sonic's post has 3 MiGs and some Allied craft. Share this post Link to post
